On the top deck of the Knight Bus, Stan walked between the beds, looking at the faces of each passenger. For months he hadn't paid them more attention than to do his job and assess them as possible threats. But Thursday night with Megan had been... shockingly nice, and now he was starting to notice the passengers as people again. It was unsettling.

He barely rocked as the bus slammed to a halt, making anything that wasn't bolted down skid across the floor. Stan looked out the window and saw that they were in Hogsmede. There hadn't been any passengers headed here, so it must be a pick-up.

Unreasonably hopeful, he headed soundlessly down the stairs. He knew it probably wasn't actually Megan, but he couldn't help but look.

The Knight Bus jostled along at high speed, sending passengers and their luggage sprawling. Stan managed to avoid splashing any of the hot cocoa out of the mugs and onto his purple uniform. After a few years of this, the motion of the bus was almost more familiar than when the ground stood still.

Stan rolled with the final jolt as the bus pulled to one side so an elderly wizard in a sleep cap and heavy boots could exit. Another day, much the same. He gave the cocoa to the two middle aged witches in the rumpled dress robes, sharing a polite smile as he did. He half considered engaging them in conversation, but it just seemed like too much trouble to bother these days.

Prang was just beginning to roll the bus away from the curb when someone knocked on the door. With a disgusted mutter, Ernie opened the door and let in the latecomer.
