"I don't know if there'll be snow..."
Who: Open!
What: A Hallway Holiday Gathering!
Where: Naea's apartment's open!
When: December 18, 2010 @ around 7:00 p.m.
Warnings: Well. Anything can happen here. You know this.
Notes: There's drinks and food and music. It's hard to go wrong.

While "Marshmallow World" by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin was playing on her laptop (Viva Pandora!), she was finishing up the Swedish meatballs (that she so rarely ate, but it was her mother's recipe and it was one of the very few meat items she did enjoy) and singing along with the song with a bounce in her step. For all that had fallen on her in the past year, Naea knew things could be so much worse and it was no reason to take away some of that holiday spirit. She wanted to celebrate all the good that had been and that would be. Since moving into Pax, she'd made great friends--more than she'd ever known. She would be getting her diploma in a matter of weeks, now. She felt so lucky. Fun and happy must be had.

Small cafe-style fold-type tables were set up along the hallway with some folding chairs peppered here and there as well as in her small apartment (She promised Neil, her boss, a pan of fudge for the lending). Lights were strung around some of the table legs and around her door and wherever she could get them up. Cold appetizers sat on those tables in the hall; hot ones were left in her kitchen to stay that way. Soda and spirits were available (her boss was generous, in addition to the lovely Kami). There were cookies and candy and Gypsy was tucked away safely in Pru's place.

Rare was the occasion that Naea would dress up. And tonight, with some help from Kami, she certainly did. She felt pretty and, well feminine. Not that she had never before any other time in her life, but tonight was different somehow. The lace-up back of her dress felt... sexy. Naea wasn't entirely sure what this shindig would bring tonight, but she knew that no matter what, she would be having fun.

Did she blush? Oh yes, she did the moment Shae's fingers touched her cheek. It wasn't often she got compliments like this, and Shae was pretty damn good looking in his own right. She was starting to feel as though she could just eat him up. "You show me yours, I'll show you mine. I think it would be a fantastic adventure for the both of us." Oh, man. It wasn't often that Naea flirted or really wanted to, but Shae seemed to bring it out of her. And she liked it.

Clinky went their bottles. "Sláinte." She'd had a group of Irish folks come in about six times during their stay not long ago, and they'd taught her the word. Repeatedly. "And you know, don't worry about forgetting. You work long hours. The last thing you were thinking about was a party. Nevertheless," she purred (She could purr?) before sipping out of her clear glass bottle. "I'm glad to see you here."

Mmm, now this was intriguing. Shae was starting to like the sound of this new game, especially since the very suggestion of it seemed to reveal a side of Linnaea he hadn't seen in the....single interaction they'd had prior to this evening. Wait, they'd only met one other time? What a damn shame.

"T'ink somebody needa put a leash on you, ma cher," he returned with a chuckle, winding an arm over her shoulders and raising the bottle to his lips for another swig. "You don' watch dat tongue, someone else gon' watch it FO' you."

He glanced in the direction of her doorway, recalling that she'd said something about...food? His stomach gave a loooong groan of protest at that particular thought, and he began to steer his new captive toward the apartment. "Good eats, dat's what I need...an' mebbe a bat'room. Show me da way."

Grinning, she leaned against him gently as his arm went over her shoulders and turned towards her open door. "A leash, hm? Promises, promises." Naea stuck her tongue out at him as her hip swung into him gently, enough to tease but not too much. That was gradually building all on its own, though perhaps 'gradually' wasn't the word to use in this particular situation. The night was still fairly young... And he was starting to grow on her. Shae could talk to her all night with that voice...

She lead him into her smaller apartment and pointed to her left past the kitchen. "Bathroom's the first door on the right. The end of the hall is the bedroom, and I'm not sure that's quite where you want to be for all intensive purposes." Taking a longer drink from her fruity malt beverage, Naea patted his back with the hand that rested there. "Shoo, now, and I'll make you up a plate, yeah?"

Well now, what could he rightly say to that? Shae smiled and slipped away from his hostess' affectionate hold, finishing off the beer in his hand and setting the empty bottle on the kitchen counter as he passed. Her directions had been clear enough, and once he'd re-emerged from the bathroom after taking care of business, he regarded the hallway with a considerable degree of curiosity.

...so, the bedroom was at the end of the hall. That bit of casually volunteered information hadn't escaped Shae's notice, and he glanced briefly over his shoulder to make sure no one was paying him any attention before slinking off into Linnaea's bedchambers. Oh yeah, that had definitely been an invitation. No harm in scoping out the room's layout...just in case he needed it for future reference. He vaguely remembered helping her move some of the larger pieces of furniture to this unit, but nothing had really been unpacked at that point; surely a little refresher couldn't hurt.

The first object that caught his eye was the guitar. It was settled back against the wall in an unassuming fashion, but there was still a reverence to the instrument. It was old, that much he could tell even in the pale light of the moon streaming through the window. The finish had long ago lost its luster, and the frets and a portion of the body had been visibly worn down from use. Whatever its significance might have been to its owner, this guitar was obviously well-loved.

Feeling a strange sense of giddiness churning within him (guitars always seemed to have that effect), Shae carefully plucked the instrument from its display stand and headed back out into the living room. Plenty of people had joined the party since his brief little foray, and he smiled in acknowledgment as he passed. Linnaea was right where he'd expected her to be, assembling a very tempting tower of edibles on a plate that he could only assume was intended for him. He reached out the neck of the guitar and gently prodded at her back with the headstock to get her attention.

"You nevah said you knew how'ta play, ei'ter," he admonished playfully, offering the guitar up to her in exchange for the plate of food. "Ain' nice ta keep dose kin'a secrets, ma cher. Dis pahty could use some REAL music, anyway." He glanced a little disdainfully at the laptop that had already spiraled into a repetitive loop of Bing Crosby and- good God, was that "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer"?- before leaning over and hitting the pause button.

"Le's see what you can do," Shae grinned in challenge, waving a hand at her to continue. "Play, monkeh!"

Some Swedish meatballs, a couple of hot wings, a Sloppy Joe...

It may have officially been the most amount of meat she'd had in her apartment since she lived with David, but it was all right. She wasn't a vegetarian for the PETA reasons, more that it was cheaper for her to buy veggies most of the time and her father having bought her bar food for so long for dinner turned her off on it 99% of the time. Every once in a while, she didn't mind fish or the occasional piece of grilled chicken... but if she was cooking for others, there would be a variety.

Naea felt the wood prod at a bare part of her back and blinked in surprise as she turned around with plate in hand to find Shae standing there with her guitar, commenting about how she never mentioned knowing how to play, and turning off Pandora for the moment.

...did he just call her a monkey?

She wanted to ask just why he had been nosing about in her bedroom and chalked it up, instead to curiosity since he had helped her move into it from four floors up. The guitar was a pretty obvious thing to find in there. "Uh... heh." Naea traded the food for her mama's guitar and sighed, feeling a bit embarrassed. Usually when she played in front of anyone, it was because she tuned them out around her. Nobody had really paid her any mind and that included David, though he said once that he enjoyed her noodling while he was doing whatever. "Shae, I really don't play for people much." Her mother had. Why was this different? "Is there something in particular you want to hear or is this on me?"

[ooc: I do have something in mind, just building up to it. bwahaha!]

"Mm. Den you can staht raght now." He could almost feel her reluctance from where he was standing, and it occurred to him a little belatedly that, well...maybe she wasn't any good. Maybe this would be ridiculously embarrassing for her.

He dispelled the notion almost immediately. She hardly seemed the collecting type, and the guitar wasn't exactly in the sort of condition someone would spend money on, but it definitely had some kind of sentimental value. That much was clear from the careful way she held it, plucking idly at the strings as she waited for his answer. No, those fingers most definitely knew what they were doing.

"Jes' play whatevah you feel lahk," he returned with a crooked smile before stuffing a Swedish meatball into his mouth, which he then attempted to talk around. "Ah cnn snng wi'v oo, ih oo wah'n."
