gingah bread accidents
Who: Prudence & Kami
What: Pru stops by Kami's to bake gingah bread cookies, but her visions keep getting in the way D:
Where: Kami's apartment
When: December 4th, after 7pm
Warnings: TBD

Fresh home from the set of Holiday Slasher XVIII, Prudence make a quick stop at her apartment to grab the cookie cutter set she'd mentioned to Kami on the forums. They were a little more predisposed towards a previous holiday, and she'd bought them more on a whim rather than thinking she'd actually get any use out of them, but she was still excited to at least maybe break them out of the box. And hey, who knew, maybe festively decorated bat cookies could be a big hit.

Making sure she grabbed her proper dosage of her current medical cocktail, she left her scarf and gloves behind at her apartment and made her way upstairs to Kami's dressed casually, which was to say the same she'd be dressed even when on set; her hair was in a braid down her back. The elevator gave her no issues, thankfully, and she arrived at the appropriate floor just a little after the appointed time she was going to meet Kami at her apartment - brisk steps brought her down the hall and she rapped softly on the door to get the other woman's attention that she had arrived. One hand clutched at the box of cookie cutters a little nervously.

"Of course." Kami relinquished the sieve and bowl to the other woman easily enough before crossing to pluck the cheerful black and white checked apron from the rack set against the pantry door. As she turned and held it up, the brightly colored cherries embroidered on the pocket came into view. She paused to watch as Prudence pondered the various measurements and dry ingredients. Grinning, she skipped back over and handed the apron to her friend. "First things first," she instructed, "all of those things have to get sifted together so it's even. The dry things only, okay? The flour and baking powder and soda and salt and ginger and cinnamon and cloves."

Prudence set the few spices down that she'd grabbed up, and slipped the apron on - it was adorable, but it clashed horribly with her appearance. She didn't care, though, instead intent on keeping Kami away from the mixing bowl. The string of words coming out of Kami's mouth made her head spin for a moment and she started looking over the labels to make sure she had the right things in the right places.

"Dry, got it. OK..." The salt, flour, and baking soda all came to hand easily, the rest being a little trickier. But everything was labeled neatly and she got them into the bowl, even if she made it look like she was trying to do it covertly. Leaning the bowl away from Kami was awkward, but Pru felt it was necessary.

Frowning at the strange stance, Kami edged closer to peer around and check the contents of the bowl. Once satisfied that Pru had, indeed, done some of the sifting, she stepped back and laughed. "Hold the bowl upright more or you'll spill all over everything," she advised.

Then she reached over and retrieved the butter and shortening. "I'll start on this part. It takes a bit longer than the sifting. You have to get these two mixed together pretty smoothly for it to work right." As she spoke, Kami peeled the wax paper away from the sticks, measuring in automatic habit, and dropped them into another big bowl. Next she switched the hand mixer on and began beating them into one substance. "If you can measure out the brown sugar..?"

Thankfully Kami moved away, to focus on another part of the baking - Pru set the bowl evenly back on the counter, which certainly made things easier. She listened to the woman's suggestion to get the brown sugar ready when another sensation hit her mind, and her left eye squinted for a moment. Sometimes, she didn't wonder if these accidents were truly going to happen or if it was because she was present. Either way, she still did everything in her power to prevent them.

"Actually, can I do that? I think you'd be better at measuring," she asked, setting down her tools and holding out her hand for the beater. It was times like this when Prudence wished that she could just be normal and not have to worry about every little thing. But seeing Kami's hand make friends with the beater would kill the fun of the evening much more quickly than her visions would.

Kami gave her friend a strange look, eyebrow raised as her confusion mounted. Just what on earth was wrong with Pru? She was acting more skittish than anyone Kami had ever seen before. Jumpy as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs came to mind in a trite, laughable flash and Kami reacted with a faint smile as she clicked the beater to a slower setting. "Are you a hands-on learner or something?" she asked. Maybe the answer would clear some things up.

"Um, yeah." No, not really; in truth, rather than being a kinetic learner, Pru learned more readily through oral instructions and was ably to apply said skills almost immediately. Still, she felt a little better when Kami moved the setting down on the beater, and the vision went away.

"But if you think you should do it, that's OK. I am the noob here, after all," she joked, trying to cover up her peculiar behavior. She'd just gotten to the building, practically had just moved in - she didn't want to start scaring people away. She hastily picked up the measuring tools again, giving Kami a bright smile. Wow, that didn't seem weird at all.

Watching Pru relax somewhat and return to her section of the counter, Kami shook her head with a confused little smile that bordered on indulgent. Then she gave her head a little shake and carefully adjusted the beater against the steadily combining butter and shortening. "Could you please measure out the brown sugar?" she asked. "We'll start creaming this. When it's all together, though, I hope you can think of something to do." Kami grinned impishly. "The stupid dough has to rest in the fridge for a couple of hours."

Detecting a hint of annoyance in Kami's voice, Pru immediately went back to measuring out the brown sugar. Awesome, wonderful, why is this my life, she moaned in her head, the thoughts trickling onto her face in the form of a frown and what looked like deep concentration.

"A couple of hours? Wow, well..." She dumped some brown sugar in the bowl, and bit one lip. "How was the Halloween party? I mean, I think I missed you, did you go?" It was definitely late to be talking about such things, but it was still a decent topic of conversation. She still couldn't figure out if someone had slipped something into her drink, or if...all the things she'd thought happened had actually happened. When one woke up outside one's apartment building butt naked, one tends to wonder what the hell happened.

Strangely, the question brought a pink flush to the other woman's cheeks and Kami suddenly found the bowl in her hands fascinating, fiddling with the beater settings and shifting it within the quickly consolidating ingredients with new determination. "Yes," she finally said, "I went."

From where Pru stood, she could just make out the faint quirk growing at the corner of Kami's mouth, an almost-smile at odds with her rosy cheeks. "It was kinda strange," she continued. "Okay, I lie. It was really strange. It started out fine but... I don't know about you, Pru, but didn't things get really, really weird later at night?" Judging the creaming process done, Kami looked over at her friend and motioned for the slow add of the additional ingredients. She waited until a portion of the flour mixture had been added before speaking again.

"I had finally agreed to dance with Jack, y'know, and..." Kami shook her head and laughed. "I think I had a great time," she finished. "A lucky one, too, since I woke up safe and sound in my own bed." With two very naked, very attractive men tangled amongst the sheets with her but, really, Pru didn't need to know about her and Shae and Jack and whatever that had been.

Despite her resolution, she still felt her cheeks warm further, a crooked sheepish smile. "You?" she prompted.

She did see the expression growing on Kami's face, a brow rising in spite of her attempt to remain neutral. Yeah, things had gotten weird. She hadn't had anything to drink - her medications sort of nipped any desire of alcohol in the bud, unless she wanted hallucinations on top of a hangover - oh shit, stop scooping brown sugar into the bowl, idiot, she suddenly realized as she was about to add just a little too much. She returned the overstock to its packaging, still listening to Kami's story.

"Lucky for you, I'm still missing a shoe," she half-muttered, not wanting to look like a freak for what had happened to her. She remembered talking to a few people, but the memories were fuzzy, as though they had all happened in a dream.

"Um, yeah, I went, but like you said, things got weird. I...don't even remember what happened. Like...almost a blackout or something." She felt at a loss of what to do next, staring at the bowl and suddenly wishing she hadn't brought up this topic of conversation.

Kami frowned at that definition and finished mixing the ingredients in absolute silence. Then she retrieved a roll of plastic wrap to cover the bowl before stashing it in the refrigerator. When she emerged again, she had a carton of orange juice in her hand. “Juice?” she asked. She didn’t wait for Pru’s answer, though, and instead poured out two glasses. Her expression was distracted, a pretty little frown of confusion and thought turning down her full mouth.

As she handed the glass over and turned towards her couch, indicating for Pru to follow, though, she suddenly gave a little shrug. “The whole thing kinda was like a weird dream,” she agreed. “I don’t remember much of anything past maybe 9 or something.” She gave a faint, wry laugh. “Figures I’d end my clear memories on a dance with Jack. Everything else...”

Kami collapsed on her couch with a melodramatic whoomph and then grinned over at her friend. “I don’t know. I can only take people’s words for things,” she admitted. “But I felt pretty good. All relaxed and peaceful and warm so I guess that’s something, right?”

Prudence could name a number of drugs that had left her feeling relaxed and peaceful and warm, all meant to sedate and fight back whatever was wrong in her mind. The thoughts graced her face with a frown, which she covered up with a drink of the offered juice.

"It could be," she admitted, not wanting to make the situation more awkward than it had to be. "Good is as good is as good is." She swirled the juice in the glass for a moment as she leaned back against the counter.

"So, you and Jack? He seems like a nice guy." She decided to turn the topic of conversation away from the night of Halloween, thinking that it had been a poor choice.

At first, all Kami rewarded Pru's comment with was a vaguely approving noise low in the back of her throat. Then she seemed to think better of it and swallowed a hasty mouthful of juice before smiling and rolling her eyes skywards. "Jack is," she began in slow, mockingly careful tones, "a really fascinating guy. Incredibly charming." Something in the line of her mouth relaxed then and she shrugged with a laugh, realizing that it was useless to explain Jack without going into an insane amount of backstory... Which was finally fading from center-stage in light of his behavior, their words, and everything else.

Kami toyed with her glass, glancing at Pru out the corner of her eye. Mischief grew in her mind as she pushed past the moment of uncertainty and she turned suddenly to smile her sweetest at the other girl. "Why? Do you think he's cute?" she asked.
