Who: OPEN
What: Pax Letale Halloween Bash 2010!
Where: The Empty Grave
When: 6:30-9 p.m.
Warnings: Likely any and all. Enter at your own risk.
Notes: This is the party post for all Pax residents and guests in attendance, right up to the moment of transformation. Use your subject line to denote your character's location (i.e. 'By the door,' 'at the bar,' 'on the dance floor,' 'in a coat closet.')

The air in Pax Letale crackled with possibility all day Sunday. All week, excited chatter had filled the hallway and the forums; costumes had been carried in and out; speculation on what the party would entail were whispered. By Sunday, the energy surrounding the event held so much promise that it hardly seemed like just a Halloween party anymore; it was something more, and that sense was nearly kinetic.

The main ballroom in the haunted mansion that was The Empty Grave was expansive, but guests had already begun to arrive. When they entered, they found lush opulence withered and faded; grandeur, but with an eerie pall over it. It was perfect for Halloween - dark, ghostly, with a twisted Victorian edge to it. The bar was fully stocked, trays of h'ors d'oeuvres passed around and more substantial fare offered on ornate platters along one wall. A DJ was already spinning a mix of music that somehow managed to fit the theme and appeal to the eclectic demographic he was serving, and attractive (if ghastly) characters added flavor to the already colorful room.

The night had begun.

"I hope so or I'm doing something really wrong in this costume." Lazily, Kami reached up to drape one bare arm around Samuel's neck while she allowed the other to dangle at her side. It brushed teasingly against his hand before she adjusted her posture and skin touch was again limited to her arm about his neck and his hand at her hip. With a sweet smile, she resisted Samuel's tugs just enough so that they weren't quite touching, just the slightest of distances kept them safely apart. Then she tilted her head to one side as she considered him, rocking ever so slightly as she waited for him to initiate the dance. "Have I thanked you yet for not marking me up at paintball?" she asked suddenly.

"No," he said, laughing. He let her have her little space even as he slid them into motion, finding the DJ's rhythm and moving them both to it. If his hips wound close to hers in spite of that distance, that was the music's doing, or so he could plausibly argue. A soft smile played at the corner of his mouth as he remembered his last such session. He exhaled on a sigh, giving her faux doeskin-clad side a little pinch. "Your friend Shae made a good enough target. Others, too. No need to bruise you unnecessarily."

Kami rolled big dark eyes at his comment, her mouth quirking slightly higher to one side, but she allowed him to lead without argument. "I'd say that was chivalry," she returned, "but I'd probably be lying. You already know better than to aim for the kiss and make it better angles." She curled the fingers on the hand behind his neck to give the hair there a teasing tug before settling her grip more firmly to cup the nape of his neck. It served as an anchor for when she allowed her body to sink a few precious inches into a squirming dip, timed to the music. Despite the sensuality of the move, she still maintained an air cushion between them - whether he approved or not. "It was a risk, though. I mean, I could have had to play nursemaid to the other casualties all night instead of getting drunk and amenable."

"I'd have been sorry to ruin your plans," he said, his tone utterly bereft of regret. "Pretty sure some of our players would've liked your 'playing nursemaid,' though." He grinned, one brow quirking as he availed himself of the lovely view her lithely bent body provided. "I bet you have a costume for that, too." His hand slipped beneath her shoulders, lifting her back up to him, his body rolling faintly against hers as the beat shifted to a tune with a tempo grinding and slow. "So maybe I ruined their night. Oh, well."

"You sound so incredibly sorry, I'm sure." Her smile was a smirk now and the knowing look she gave him told him that she was onto his schemes. With supreme body control, she hitched her hips back out of contact with his again even as she brought her free arm up to pat her small hand against his chest comfortingly. "There's a heart in there somewhere, tin man."

"Not likely." His smile grew sharper with hers, his languid movements against her curbed somewhat by her gesture. He feigned a pensive look, lips pursing on a smirk, hazel eyes glancing heavenward. "I'm pretty sure I traded that a few years back for a great custom shortboard." When he looked back to her, the impish smile reflected in his eyes, one brow quirked sharp above his steady gaze. "I definitely got the better end of that deal. The board gets much more action."

"If you're the one riding it, I'd believe it." Kami giggled and relaxed her vigilance to allow their dance to continue in uninterrupted closeness now. It was almost as if she had been testing him, setting boundaries of what to expect, and, now that he knew a dance was a dance (no matter how sexy), they could continue. Her hand slid up from his chest to lace with the other behind his neck. "Girls like dangerous men, I hear."

Samuel's bright expression reached a positively obscene wattage. "Now, Kami, are you implying I'm dangerous?" He felt the soft press of her body again, some small reward for his good behavior; it was a gift he had no trouble accepting, and soon his hands tightened at her hips once more, his shoulders rolling gently beneath the light skim of her hands. "I am as pure as driven snow, and as innocent as a lamb. Something like that."

"Next time, try saying it like you believe it, Samuel." She granted him a naughty wink before slipping one hand away from his neck again to balance herself better as she allowed the music to drive her into another low dip, her weight a delicate balance between him and her strong legs.

"Yes ma'am," he mumbled, his attention on their friendly banter quickly waning. The smirk, however, was clearly going nowhere. His eyes followed her every motion, grateful now he had taken the time to come out and be social. He said a quiet prayer to anyone listening that all future Pax gatherings would be so successful as these last two had been - moreso, he even dared to plead - and shifted closer against her as she drew back up the length of his body.

With his lack of a witty retort, Kami relaxed further into the music and movement. He could feel the difference in her curvaceous body, a new looseness and, if he wasn't delusional, a warmth to her. Her eyes half-closed and her hand returned to his shoulder for further body contact. The smile curving her lips spoke of true enjoyment. Though there was definite bump and grind to her motions, her instincts still kept things from resembling a more primal action too much. This was Samuel Wolfe, after all, and she had an earful and a headful of ideas from her newest, dearest lady-friend.

As the music went on, Samuel noticed steadily fewer signs of restraint from his companion. He had no complaints, though he found his eyes flicking, on occasion, to the crowd around them. There was no shortage of skimpy costumes and exposed flesh to ogle, and with a quirk of a smile he wondered just who among them would be treated to Kami's wiles. He looked back to her then, moving as she bid, his hands slipping close to the small of her back.

She had apparently noticed his wandering eye and, when his eyes returned to her face, her own were wide open as she grinned wickedly at him. "Picking out your next target?" she teased. "I would take offense except we're still doing pretty well here." Her hand on his shoulder shifted until she could idly draw a line along the seam of his shirt. Her touch was wonderfully light and cut warmly through the old cotton. "I might have to grab you for another dance later on," she added. "There are hours to fill and the night is young, right?"

"Target? You make me sound so predatory." He tried to look abashed at being caught out, but the expression failed miserably. Instead his shoulder rose beneath her hand in an amicable but vague shrug; his eyes met hers, a smile wolfish and unrepentant bleeding into his every feature. The lure of the open bar was a strong one to be sure, as much for the view it provided as the alcohol itself. "Young indeed," he quipped, laughing as again he drew too close. "I don't have any plans, Kami." He shifted against her, moving to the winding beat, his voice a cheerful whisper in her ear. "You are welcome to come drag me away from my whiskey whenever you feel the urge."

Kami drew her head back the moment he finished his whisper and grinned at him with perfect impish glee; the temptress had been replaced to some degree with a naughty schoolgirl. Her hand left off teasing and lay flat and innocent on his shoulder once more. "Only if it's whiskey," she answered cryptically. "I have a feeling, though, that you're going to have much more interesting company later tonight and I'd never ever dream of interrupting that."

"That so?" The arch to his brow grew ever higher, a look of earnest curiosity passing over his face. "You must know something I don't." His smirk turned sharp, then, and strangely unreadable. He settled back comfortably against her as her touch softened to something slightly more platonic. "Unless you're just betting on the booze to better my odds, and if that's the case, I don't know if I'm flattered or insulted."

"Booze is usually only an excuse," Kami answered cheerfully. "But sometimes a girl needs one if she's thinking she might bite off more than she can chew." She gave him another adorably puckish smile. "But sometimes alcohol means you miss the fun... So try not to get wasted, Sergeant, or a dance with me will pretty much be the only highlight of your night."

Samuel chuckled at her explanation, far preferring it to his own. He couldn't help but feel her own expectations from the party far outstripped his; at best he had come out hoping for free alcohol and a good view, but she seemed to have other, more interesting outcomes in mind. "That wouldn't be such a bad thing," he said, casting another appreciative glance to her snugly fitted costume. "But I'd hate to know I missed some golden opportunity. There's something you're not telling me." His hips swayed, pushing ever closer to hers. "Give me a little hint?"

Her hips met the timing of his sway but, instead of reciprocating his forward motion, she drew back again to the small but safe air cushion between them. "I'm not dressed as a gypsy fortune-teller, you know," she pointed out. "I can't see the future but, if I had to make a guess..." She paused and drew the hand that had been behind his neck to also rest on his shoulder. "Well, I think you're going to get a much better dance later tonight. In fact, I'd place money that your company will improve and you had so better treat her right. Got that?" She removed a hand from his shoulder briefly to deliver a teasing poke to the center of his chest.

"Yes ma'am," he said again, grinning broadly. This time there was no distraction in his voice, though there may have been the slightest hint of amusement; their guessing-game was as titillating as it was frustrating, and Samuel was left ever more certain Kami wasn't showing this particular hand. As much as he liked the turn her prediction had taken, he felt it best to approach the situation with a certain degree of cautious skepticism. Still, his tone was light, a soft laugh coloring his words as he added, "I will be on my best behavior."

"But you still have to show her a good time." Kami studied Samuel's expression thoughtfully before allowing the corner of her mouth to quirk upwards. Her hands returned to their neatly settled position on his shoulders. "I'm pretty sure you will, though," she admitted. "Your approach to paintball was intense. You can't fake that kind of focus."

She glanced towards the DJ table, watching he dug through his collection for the next song. "Hm, looks like we're just about done here, though." Kami turned back to Samuel and smiled. "So there's just one question left. Did I do a good job here?"

'Intense' was not an unfamiliar adjective to Samuel, though he'd found it tended to have a negative connotation as often as a positive one. Here, at least, it seemed like a pat on the back, a potential leg up in whatever competition she appeared to foresee.

"You certainly did," he said. His steps slowed, his hands stilling on her hips. "An excellent way to start off the night." Tossing her a playful wink, he gave her another little pinch through her thin dress. "You get bored again, come find me, hm?"

"Not if you're going to keep pinching me, Sergeant," Kami replied with a laugh. She brought her hands down to his and, after giving them a quick friendly squeeze, tugged them away from her curves. "You're going to leave marks and that's never fun."

Lifting his hands away more fully, Kami took a step backwards and then dropped him. She gave a tiny little curtsy and winked. "And I hope you have a great night. Don't forget what I said, okay?" With that final warning, she gave a chipper little wave and disappeared into the surrounding crowd.
