Who: Prudence & Kami
What: Cupcakes and awesome FX
Where: Pru's apartment, 209
When: 10/29/10
Warnings: Links to some gross pictures. Everything is fake, btw, but if someone doesn't like that kind of stuff, here's your warning.

Her apartment was still fairly not unpacked - maybe forty percent, what with the numerous cardboard boxes still lining the walls. Major pieces of furniture had been attended to first, those being a couch and coffee table, a projector for screening movies on one wall rather than a television (Pru liked the old-school feeling it had, almost like a drive in theater), and her desk in one corner with her elaborate desktop all set up, currently flashing a sleep screen of various green numbers and symbols not unsimilar to those found in the Matrix movies. Music, soft drowning symphonies that were similar to funeral dirges, was emanating from the speakers, helping to set an atmosphere. And this was just the living room - her victorian queen-sized bed had been assembled, along with matching dresser and nightstand, in the small bedroom.

Of course, the items shrank the room down to almost a matchbox, but Pru didn't mind. The items were hand-me-downs from her mother, items that had been passed down in the family and had, until recent, been stored away and were once being considered to be sold until the money from her father's untimely death had appeared. The items had history and Pru loved the idea that she could lay a hand on the headboard and know she was touching something real. Something solid that was full of stories.

Mostly, though, upon viewing Prudence's apartment, one could speculate that the items were a little on the macabre side. Darker colors, mostly reds, grays, and browns, were rampant but had a soothing effect. Of course, little decoration was up, but one could surmise that the remaining cardboard boxes would remedy that issue. Pru was digging into once such box, bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts scattered on the floor, when she heard a knock at her door - thinking of those she'd spoken to on the forum, she wondered for a moment as to who it might be. Another thought, and a quick sniff of the air that revealed the scent of chocolate, answered that question and a smile painted itself on her face as she took a few steps slowly and gracefully in stockinged feet (her outfit one of her usual, hair in a loose braid down her shoulder) to the door, opening it to see who was on the other side.

"You look beyond adorable," the other woman argued good-naturedly. "Look at those cheeks. I could just reach through the picture and pinch them." Kami shot Pru a sideways look and grinned. "Babies are too cute for words," she admitted. "I can't help but cuddle them if the moms let me. Kids are just as cool. There's something really special when you can make them smile full-on."

With a gesture better suited for the hanging of the Mona Lisa, Kami placed the baby picture on the wall. Then she stepped back and regarded it with a huge smile. "Perfect," she announced. Glancing back at Pru, the smile gentled and she gave a little shrug. "No reason at all. I think it's important to love what you're doing or why would you even do it? I love acting and dancing and even singing. I might not be Kristin Chenoweth but I can carry a tune well enough to get buy." She stepped back and returned to the box of pictures with a faint sigh. Somehow the sigh held no sadness or signal for worry; it was merely a breath after a thought. "I really need to find more jobs," she admitted. "I miss the rush."

Kami looked up at Pru, head tilted. "You probably totally understand me, right?"

Pru shook her head at Kami's response - kids. Prudence didn't really have a lot of good things to say about kids, never having had a good experience with one. Well, then again, she'd not necessarily had a bad experience with children, but everything about being young was colored by her experiences growing up. She bit back a laugh, however, at the grandiose gesture with which Kami hung the picture on the wall.

"I completely understand you." Prudence put two more photos up - each of her in college, looking extremely recent because, well, they were - and took a step back to look over the entire wall. It was far from filled, but Prudence was hoping to fix that. It was a way of forcing herself to get out and about, meet people, do things. There would be no holing up in her apartment, no hiding away from the world as she used to.

"It's like...this is going to sound so cliche, but like you were meant to do it. I mean, not like I was meant to fake people's deaths and injuries... Hah, yeah. I'm just going to pretend I didn't say that." But she knew she was meant for something in particular. That had to be the reason why she had this ability. This gift, this curse, whatever one wanted to call it.

"Thanks for helping out," she ended with, turning her head to look at Kami.

"Oh, any time." Kami's bright grin and ready answer spoke only truth in the words. She tucked her hands into her back pockets, rocking forward onto the balls of her feet for a moment in absent motion as she again considered the wall. "Should we finish this now or do you want another cupcake break?"

Prudence opened her mouth to suggest more chocolate (because who didn't think better on a sugar high) when her phone went off again. This time it wasn't an alarm but an actual ring - the dark-haired young woman looked from her new friend to the phone, and held up one finger as though to suggest just a sec. A few steps later had the phone in her hand and flipped open to press to her ear.

"Hello?" She listened for a moment, nodding her head in time with whatever someone on the other side was saying. "Yes. Yes, I can. Well, it's a thirty minute drive but I can be there...sure thing. See you." She snapped the phone closed and looked back over to Kami.

"I'm so sorry to cut this short, but that was the producer. Um, from the film I'm currently working on - somehow the monster I designed got booted across the set and they need me to come in and repair it," she rolled her eyes, knowing that some stupid college co-ed on internship had probably been messing around with it. Moving through the apartment comfortably, she grabbed her coat, and her shoes were by the door.

"We'll have to do this again, though," she added with a smile. "Not you helping me unpack, of course, but just...hanging out."

"Oh, definitely!" Kami's face glowed with interest and she practically vibrated with the contained urge to ask more questions about the movie but manners kept her in check as she followed Pru towards the door. "My door is pretty much always open to friends so feel free to stop by whenever you want. I hate getting lonely." She grinned and slipped through the door ahead of the other girl, allowing for her to lock the apartment. "And the rest of the cupcakes are all yours," she added. "If you like those, maybe I'll make you my guinea pig on other recipes."

Half-skipping, Kami moved a bit down the hallway in the direction of the stairs before lifting a hand in a cheerful wave. "Drive safely and kick the ass of whoever hurt your baby," she called. Then, leaving Pru to get on with her job, the curvy brunette spun on her heel and trotted off to the stairwell to disappear back home.
