everybody's comin'; leave your body at the door
Who: EVERYONE.
What: The Pax Halloween Party, part one.
Where: Pax Letale apartment complex, rec room.
When: 7 p.m., Oct. 31.
Notes: Hi guys! Sorry this took so long to get up; things have been pretty crazy here. But here is the Halloween event! This is the first part, and should be treated like a regular event; please mark where and when your character can be found throughout the room. Please remember that your character must be wearing their Halloween mask provided to them at the beginning of the month in order to gain admission to the rec room party. This is crucial for the second part of the event. If there are two people in a thread, please ask permission before entering; if you have any questions, please contact the mods! Now on with the show!

Despite the general eeriness of the building at large, those who make their way downstairs to the Halloween party will find it decorated to entertain. The lobby's emptiness will have been filled by a set of bloody sticker footprints from the elevator leading toward the rec room, through the door of which lights and music blare into the hallway. Stephan is waiting outside the entry way, dressed to the nines like a bald Morticia Addams, his red nails clicking on a clipboard as he takes note of who's arrived and who hasn't. Those who aren't dressed appropriately—read: with their Pax-provided masks—will be denied entry until they go and retrieve said item. Upon entry, Stephan will make the remark that attendees are to enjoy themselves, and that a special guest of honor will arrive a few hours later.

Those who make it past the drag queen bouncer will find a rather ghoulishly delightful party inside. Orange and black streamers hang in wound loops from the walls, pinned carefully to the molding near the ceiling. Bats, cartoon cutouts of witches flying over a waning moon, black cats, and pumpkins all cover the walls from top to bottom; carved pumpkins are set on every available table space, lit and flickering in the low light. The doors to the pool area are open, a disco ball shining orange, black and white specks over everything as classic Halloween hits are played from a nearby boombox. The pool itself glows a ghostly green.

Back inside the rec room, a long table opposite the pool table is laden with hot dog finger treats, feet made of meatloaf, speared deviled eggs painted like eyeballs, and every other appropriately-themed Halloween food item an attendee could think of. In the middle of it all, amid black and orange plates and clear, orange-y cups, is a bowl filled generously with store-bought candy. On either side are punch bowls filled with green and red liquid; the former will taste like apple cider, the latter a regular tropical punch. Neither are alcoholic, but attendees are welcome to sneak their own into the party—Stephan's not watching that closely.

Overall, the party seems normal—too normal for some, though no one will find any mislaid bear traps, poisoned candy or razor-blade laden apples anywhere in the vicinity. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts....

Nish seemed to accept this and the concern fell away from her face. At the mention of the punch, she grinned. "Don't tell anyone, but someone spiked the punch," she said in a stage whisper, giggling a little and leaning on Jo's arm. "Also...come here, I know a secret," she said, looking around as if they'd be overheard, and then leaning in close. "I am your father," she said, barely getting the words out before she started laughing again. "I saw you with a boy; you're fucking grounded, Jo!" she said, barely able to stop the peals of laughter now.

"Okaaaay...you've clearly had a lot of punch," Jo replied to the giggling woman on her arm, as she tried to steer her to a quiet edge of the rec room. "Why don't we just go have a nice seat over here..."

She briefly considered trying to get Nish outside for some fresh air, but given how drunk the other woman was, Jo was afraid that she'd wind up falling into the pool if they went outside.

Jo continued on in a low voice. "And you are not my father. The crazy voice in your head is the father of the crazy voice in my head...or something..."

Jesus, when you say it out loud like that, it just sounds batshit insane, she thought.

She allowed herself to be steered towards a seat, and she immediately let her head rest on Jo's shoulder for a moment, but then sat up again. "Those crazy voices are uuuuussss," she said happily, winking at her as if she'd just shared a big secret. "You know Grandpa was Loki too, right? He told me all the stories when I was little...he knew shit, Jo..." She hadn't really shared that with anyone, but the memories were there, and looking back at them knowing what she knew now, it made sense. As much as anything could make sense to a drunk brain.

"Hey, who's that guy?" she asked, pointing vaguely at Vinnie by the food table. "He's so damn familiar..."

Jo's gaze followed Nishka's finger until it it was clear who her friend was referring to. She felt her face warm, and she suddenly found herself grateful for her mask, heavy and sweaty as it was.

"Who, Vinnie?" she looked back at Nishka. "That's my date. We've been hanging out for-" she stopped mid-sentence, realizing that admitting she and Vincent had been spending time together since a chance meeting in July might not quite go over well. "For awhile," she amended.

"Ohh my god, you have a boyfriend?" she blurted out, probably louder than No would have liked. "No wonder you've been so 'busy lately. Are you guys doin' it? Is he good?" She asked with a little conspiratorial grin. "Please say you're using condoms," she said, and then straightened up, putting on mock grown-up voice. "As your father, I instruct you to be careful, young lady," she said, then started giggling again.

"What the hell did they spike that punch with?" Jo wondered out loud, glancing between Nishka and the table.

Her face was burning now - yes, she was very glad to have the mask right now. "Jesus, Nish, keep it down will you?"

She didn't really want to get into the details in public, but she realized that if she didn't get an answer Nishka would probably keep asking, and at louder volumes. Her friend was that drunk.

Jo glanced over at Vinnie, making sure he was looking elsewhere at the moment, then leaned close to Nishka and rattled off the answers in a hiss. "Yes, very, and do I look stupid? Besides didn't he..." she waved her hand vaguely at Nishka's head, "...sleep with a horse in order to win a bet once? I'm not sure "my father" has a lot of standing here..."

"It wasn't to win a bet," she corrected, "it was to save the goddess Freyja from having to marry a hideous stone giant who had lied to all the gods to- that's not even the point," she said, shaking her head with a slight frown.

"So...who is he?" she asked, leaning in to her while watching an oblivious Vinnie mingle across the room. "I mean, who is he really. Is he one of us? Bragi, maybe?" she asked, guessing wildly.

Jo shrugged. "I don't think so. She doesn't recognize him, at least not that she's said."

"And, it hasn't really come up in conversation yet. Between him and me, that is."

"Hmm," she said, as if seriously considering the possibilities of who he might be, and how that might affect Jo's relationship with Vinnie.

"I want pop tarts,' she announced.

Jo stared at her friend, before bursting into laughter at the drunken non-sequitur.

"I...I'm not sure they have any at the party!" she managed to say between bouts of giggling. She hugged Nishka tight, still smiling behind the mask.

"Should I go check?"

Nish hugged her back, laughing, perhaps a little too much, but not really getting what was so funny. "Yes. Definitely. Or...I saw candy. They have candy, right? It's Halloween..."

Jo smiled (in that fond, indulgent fashion that one uses on the very young, or the very drunk) as she stood and offered a hand to help Nishka rise.

"All right. Let's go find some candy."
