everybody's comin'; leave your body at the door
Who: EVERYONE.
What: The Pax Halloween Party, part one.
Where: Pax Letale apartment complex, rec room.
When: 7 p.m., Oct. 31.
Notes: Hi guys! Sorry this took so long to get up; things have been pretty crazy here. But here is the Halloween event! This is the first part, and should be treated like a regular event; please mark where and when your character can be found throughout the room. Please remember that your character must be wearing their Halloween mask provided to them at the beginning of the month in order to gain admission to the rec room party. This is crucial for the second part of the event. If there are two people in a thread, please ask permission before entering; if you have any questions, please contact the mods! Now on with the show!

Despite the general eeriness of the building at large, those who make their way downstairs to the Halloween party will find it decorated to entertain. The lobby's emptiness will have been filled by a set of bloody sticker footprints from the elevator leading toward the rec room, through the door of which lights and music blare into the hallway. Stephan is waiting outside the entry way, dressed to the nines like a bald Morticia Addams, his red nails clicking on a clipboard as he takes note of who's arrived and who hasn't. Those who aren't dressed appropriately—read: with their Pax-provided masks—will be denied entry until they go and retrieve said item. Upon entry, Stephan will make the remark that attendees are to enjoy themselves, and that a special guest of honor will arrive a few hours later.

Those who make it past the drag queen bouncer will find a rather ghoulishly delightful party inside. Orange and black streamers hang in wound loops from the walls, pinned carefully to the molding near the ceiling. Bats, cartoon cutouts of witches flying over a waning moon, black cats, and pumpkins all cover the walls from top to bottom; carved pumpkins are set on every available table space, lit and flickering in the low light. The doors to the pool area are open, a disco ball shining orange, black and white specks over everything as classic Halloween hits are played from a nearby boombox. The pool itself glows a ghostly green.

Back inside the rec room, a long table opposite the pool table is laden with hot dog finger treats, feet made of meatloaf, speared deviled eggs painted like eyeballs, and every other appropriately-themed Halloween food item an attendee could think of. In the middle of it all, amid black and orange plates and clear, orange-y cups, is a bowl filled generously with store-bought candy. On either side are punch bowls filled with green and red liquid; the former will taste like apple cider, the latter a regular tropical punch. Neither are alcoholic, but attendees are welcome to sneak their own into the party—Stephan's not watching that closely.

Overall, the party seems normal—too normal for some, though no one will find any mislaid bear traps, poisoned candy or razor-blade laden apples anywhere in the vicinity. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts....

"When you put it that way," Obed answered, "not much. But are you sure? I feel..." His voice trailed off, but his posture made clear how he felt. He maintained some modicum of pride in his walk, but to Isobel his insecurity was surely plain. As they swept into the room he brushed a hand over the elaborately embroidered cloth of his costume. It had cost a pretty penny, and he was earnestly glad of that, happy to see Isobel becoming somewhat more comfortable with their means.

"It looks like the mandatory mask policy went over pretty well." He cast an eye about the room, smiling softly as he took in the revelers in all their costumed glory. After a solid month of bizarre occurrences, it was pleasant to see everyone relaxing a bit, simply enjoying the season for what it could be. He chuckled, putting on a feigned frown, and pointed to where Gabe strolled about in a well-fitted suit. "Although I didn't realize I could've just done that," he teased.

Isobel shook her head, grinning all the while, as she gently slapped his forearm.

"Because you dress like that everyday," she replied. "The whole point of Halloween is to be something else; get to pretend for a day.

"You can pick the costumes next year," she added, like some sort of consolation prize. The words came out of her mouth without a second thought, though their weight became immediately apparent and she felt herself smiling at the simple thought that there would be a next year. Her hands came away from his, undoing her mask enough to push it up halfway onto her wig.

"I'm still wearing it, technically," she offered to skirt any reprimand, reaching back out for his arm. "I don't know why they'd hand out masks that cover our whole faces and then put out food... It's almost cruel."

He sighed as though much put-upon, though on some deep, long-buried level of his psyche he agreed with her. Long years—decades, no less—had passed since last he had donned a costume in its truest sense. There had been costumes, of course, like the first time they two had met. But nothing so thorough, nothing that ran the risk of making him look foolish in front of others. He looked back as he took the arm of the woman who had made this wonderful silliness possible.

"Just leave it up like that," he said, nodding at the mask shoved up against her adorned wig. "As long as you're still wearing it I don't think anyone will say anything. And you can try this... foot. Or these eyes." He picked up one deviled egg, lifting it on its little spear toward Isobel's eyes. "It all looks so appetizing. I wonder who catered. We should definitely get their card."

Isobel's nose wrinkled, leaning back ever so slightly from the grotesque food offering. She used the opportunity to lean into Obed, her hoop skirts pushed out to the side by his legs.

"And what, have them cater for your birthday? Don't think I forgot," she chided, taking the deviled egg eyeball away from him and taking a bite. A yummy noise made its way out of her throat, her brows rising in surprise. "I know it looks awful, but it actually tastes really good. Unfortunately, I have other plans for you, my sweet," she grinned, eating the rest of the egg and helping herself (and him) to some of the green punch.

She held out the cup, a silvery-pink ring made of vines and tiny flowers encrusted with diamonds clear on her right hand. Isobel smiled at Obed, meeting his eyes, and then looked away at the rest of the crowd. "We should probably mingle, hm? Since I've got you out of your cave for a little while. I don't really see anyone I recognize, though..."

Her gaze fell on a man in a suit not unlike Gabe's sad pass for a costume, his face partially obscured by a mask in the shape of a half sun. It took her a moment, but she eventually recognized the man from the St. Paddy's day party. "Oh, that's Lucas. I wonder why he's not here with Alice... Let's go say hello."
