we r who we r
Who: EVERYONE.
What: LA Pride march.
Where: Hollywood Boulevard.
When: Sunday, March 11.
Notes: Hey guys! Sorry this is going up a day late; LA Pride switched from a parade to a march, so I wanted to wait to get some details (and also just to make sure nothing happened, just with the way our political and social climate has been going) to do this event right and make sure it would work for our purposes. The atmosphere still seems to have been one of celebration, and I think we're good to move forward with this idea! So feel free to have your characters dip in wherever, please remember to label where your characters are located (we're focusing on Hollywood Blvd, which means they could be standing on the starwalk, outside the chinese theater, closer to one of the ridic museums or restaurants around there, etc.) along with a timestamp if at all possible, label if you're expecting a certain character to join yours in the thread, and also please ask before joining a thread that contains two or more characters (unless it's been preplanned, ofc!). As always, even though this event is backdated, you can take your time writing out any planned -- or unplanned -- threads. And yeah! Any other questions, please direct toward the mod email.

Rainbow colored flags flapped in the afternoon hours of Sunday, moving in wind that swerved over the heads of ten thousand marchers moving up the iconic Hollywood Boulevard past the Chinese Theater that had seen starlets and producers and the Starwalk that immortalized those who had lived and died for the entertainment of others. The marchers had a far more political mindset, holding signs that read #RESIST and Trump OR Truth! They were an eclectic lot; some shirtless or pantsless, instead opting for chaps or booty shorts, some with fairy wings, most dressed in the colors of the day as they moved as one giant mass united by an idealistic world that they wanted to make reality.

Supporters and protesters alike lined the streets, separated by armed and vested police officers. Wesboro Baptist Church attendees screamed into a microphone, hurling abuse at the protesters, who mostly ignored the insults and marched on, holding their signs proudly toward the sky. Those who chose not to partake in the march watched from the sidewalk, saluting with peace signs, drinks, weed, and anything else that came to hand. Palm trees waved in the slight breeze of the hot day, the sun beating down and giving little relief to those who were prostrating themselves beneath its rays, but there were smiles, laughter, and music aplenty to keep the spirits of the attendees of the LA Pride #ResistMarch afloat.

In comparison Vinnie might look subdued, even wearing a pair of burnt orange skinny jeans and a vibrant yellow shirt. But a body would have to ignore the rainbow flower crown perched on his head, or the blue, pink, and purple converse on his feet. And then there's the tube of extremely pink glitter he'd shoved into a front pocket on their way out the door.

That's for after they're out of this dude's car; Vinnie paused to thank him and wish him luck before following BB, a grin splitting his face because she was already going a mile a minute. "BB, I promise you that we will each find someone today. We might not know 'em right now, but we will by tomorrow." He slid the tube of glitter into his hand and lifted it in silent offer. "Lady's choice, I'm not picky."

BB made an 'ooo' sound, plucking the glitter from Vinnie's grip without asking.

"On me or on you?" She asked, undoing the cap without a second thought and immediately beginning to apply it to Vinnie's face; football player-esque lines underneath each heavily-lashed eye, followed by swirls that moved over his cheeks to his chin. One hand tapped a finger under said chin to get him to look up toward the expansive blue and white cloud dotted sky, drawing more swirls over one side of his neck.

"All right, I think we should just head up Fountain and hit Hollywood itself, see if there's an entrance for the march there. Anyone else we should be on the lookout for?" Then a thought struck her, making a little gasp pop out of her mouth. She stepped back dramatically. "Vinnie. We didn't bring any signs." BB had been so wrapped up in putting together her outfit that she'd completely missed the opportunity to make a funny but politically charged sign that would vomit her feelings on all issues onto everyone around her.

"You, me, anybody that needs a little sparkle in their life. Should be enough left over for a couple glitter bombs." The mischief that turned his last sentence into a sing-song birthed also an impish grin that split his face wide enough to force his eyes closed. He kept them thus even after the flash smile faded, only opening them when she silently (for once) urged his chin up.

Fighting the urge to sneeze as he stared up at the picturesque sky, his first response was a shrug. "I'unno. One person said they might come with a friend, and someone else said he'd bring his Texas boyfriend. And what is with all the Texans lately, anyway? I did not escape Laredo as a child just for it to follo--What?!" His chin jerked down when she gasped, posture going from relaxed to tense in a second. "Oh fuck we did forget," he breathed, patting at his pockets as though somehow posterboard and markers would appear. "Crap. Um. Let's go up Fountain like you said, and we'll see if we can spot a shop or something on the way. Sound good?"

He punctuated the question by holding a hand out to her.

She grabbed his hand, stopping, dropping it for a moment as she remembered to cap the glitter pen, and slid it into her waistband before grabbing his hand again and beginning to drag him off into the crowd and down the street she'd described.

"Some places tend to stick to you," she commented on the idea of Texans suddenly encroaching on California. It wasn't that long ago that Alice had suddenly decided to follow her to L.A., and then Gus. Before she knew it, her other sibling might join in, and then what was the point of moving away. She grinned over her shoulder at him. "It can't be all that bad. I've never been to Texas, though, and, I gotta say, that place does not have a nice reputation."

Together, hand in hand, they moved through the crowd, around a corner and down a street toward Fountain in the distance.

"Honestly you'd have to ask my aunt about Texas, she's the one who grew up there. Me, she moved outta there with when I was like an infant." Because of his father; Vinnie's never been given the entire story, but he knows that Vidal kept harassing her until she had to leave town.

But that isn't a story appropriate for the day, so he just answered BB's smile with a matching one of his own. "I would much rather New York stick with me," he answered, almost skipping as the two of them wove their way through the crowd. "Property values might go down, but who cares about that who actually matters?"

Brittany laughed, the sound coinciding with a squeeze of her hand. "Never been, but my friend Alice went to school there. I jetpacked the fuck out of D.C. as soon as I could, and from what I hear, that place is definitely way outside my pocketbook now." Of course, California wasn't exactly a walk in the park financially, but she was making due, and that was all that mattered.

"If it's so special, why'd you move all the way across the country? Some might think you were trying to escape." They threaded through another crowd, BB keeping a tight grip on her friend so as not to lose her semi-captive audience. They rounded the corner onto Fountain, and started making their way up through more and more tightly clustered groups of people.

Her laugh was echoed with one of his own, mostly at the thought of NYC being anything approaching affordable. "And you think it was in mine? Girl, I moved there with a buncha musicians and theater geeks; an apartment the size of mine, we'd have packed in two to four of us! Kinda weird having it to myself," he admitted, a little more quietly.

And then he died. Not literally, but for a brief second Vinnie could swear he felt his heart stop. In the second after, he gave silent thanks that she probably couldn't feel his pulse through his palm, and that they were both busy winding their way through the crowd without losing one another. It gave him a few moments to gather his thoughts so he could.. not lie, but decide what truth to tell her. The next time they paused, he squeezed her hand before leaning up to speak softly in her ear. "The city was making me sick. Like, really sick."

"Cities are pretty gross," she absentmindedly agreed, not hearing the full force of his admission. She tugged him toward the LGBTQ building, which had all but erupted in rainbow banners, tables laid out in the front offering pamphlets about STD testing programs, medical assistance, marriage counseling, and more. "I mean, I think the rate of shit I've seen on the streets in L.A. doubled in recent weeks. You think it's that hard to find a toilet?"

They came to a stop in front of one table, where a stack of laminated signs announcing "LOVE WINS" in large, bold letters were on offer. BB's hand unlaced from Vinnie's, offering him a sign in return. Seeing his face, she quieted a little, though the energy that always pumped around her did not truly abate. "So... Did moving out here make you feel better? Did you, I dunno, see a doctor or something?" Signs in hand, she grabbed Vinnie once more and dragged him toward Hollywood Blvd and the march.

"Dude, I don't even know," came his answer, Vinnie's face scrunched up in disgust as she dragged him like a rag doll because ew. It didn't surprise him that people acted like rabid animals, he'd spent far too much time in customer service for that, but come on.

He muttered a thanks when BB handed him a sign for his suddenly empty hand, beginning to muster up one of his dazzling smiles when she asked if he were ok. The expression hangs, half-formed, before it softened. "Yeah, I'm ok. I feel better than I have in years," he answered, hoping it would reassure her. It was even the truth, to an extent; he did feel great, better every day. But the doctors he'd gone to in New York never did figure out why he'd started getting sick, and the possibility of remission felt like the sword of Damocles.

Vinnie hummed a snatch of the song, interrupting himself with a laugh as be found himself snatched and grabbed once more. "You wore out a lot of dolls as a kid, didn't you?"

BB grinned back at him, the sign in one hand, Vinnie in the other.

"Oh, you have no idea," she replied, ducking under a large, shirtless man who was painted a rainbow of colors. "Chopped off all their hair and made Mad Max style stuff before Charlize Theron made it cool for girls. Not that I'm complaining.

"But c'mon, we're already late," she chided him, pulling him deeper into the crowds and the march to be quickly lost among the throng.

[[ ooc: ok for a close? ]]

[ooc: sounds good!]

"Man, you're making me wish I had a sister growing up," he said, as though his nicknames for his aunt don't usually translate to some variation of 'sis'. The shirtless man got a second glance, but only long enough for Vinnie to flash him a bright smile. "Quit that shit."

His laughter rang out as the crowd began to press in, hanging in the air a second after they'd both been swallowed in a sea of glitter and vibrant lives.
