WHO: Nick & OTAMaria
WHEN: Saturday Afternoon
WHAT: Sometimes the inner wolf just really needs to run.
WARNINGS: Descriptive painful things. And Nick. Nudity too.
STATUS: Incomplete/Open

The dog days are over, the dog days are done, the horses are comin', so you better run.

Nick had never struggled with his inner wolf. Well, that wasn't true. He had at one point, but only when he'd had the fear that he might be stuck as the wolf for the rest of his life. Being born into this life had allowed Nick the acceptance that a bitten werewolf took a lot of time to get to. The wolf was just a part of him....that didn't mean that he wanted to be stuck that way. Nick was, very much, someone that liked being the man that he was. So, that fear had been an incredibly real thing for him. Other than that time, though, Nick had never struggled. He ran when he needed to, changed when he needed to, and it was just a part of him. Period.

So, the wolf was just as much a part of him here as it had been before. He had to change regularly enough so that he could run and not lose control. And, honestly, Nick changed more often than just the bare minimum to keep his inner wolf not only at bay, but happy. He felt like it was only fair, especially since he'd been putting in so much work for the medical facility (right along with everyone else).

Even he needed breaks, though.

That was what he was doing now. He'd needed the relaxation that came with running. Everyone was doing their part to really push the medical facility to being done as quickly as possible, and Nick was happy to be a part of it. He felt really useful here. It felt good being here. He didn't feel like too much of a screw up in comparison to anyone. He felt great, actually. So, it was on that note that he'd slipped out into the jungle (naked mind you--after all, a wolf in clothes....so not dignified or fun) and gone a good bit away from camp. As much as he felt good here, Nick knew that seeing him change...while not something he needed to hide anymore...was still not pleasant. It wasn't even pleasant to go through, but it was necessary. The breaking and re-forming of bones could look disgusting, he knew, but time had allowed him to grow accustomed to the process.

So, even with the painful process to look forward to, Nick had picked his tree and made quick work of giving his inner wolf a shout out to come run. The guy had been all too happy to come out. The process of the change as routine as bones breaking and anatomy reforming into something new could be.

After that Nick had let his inner animal have free reign. He'd run. As a wolf, Nick was large...definitely larger than your average wolf. That was definitely one weigh of identifying him, generally speaking. He was both bulkier and taller, with longer legs, than your average run of the mill wolf. IF asked he probably would have joked that it was because he was so tall, and such a great physical specimen....but all werewolves of his variety fit that description. With his size, length, and gait, Nick moved fast. So, he tore through the jungle, feeling the wind through his fur and definitely burning some of the extra energy that he had. He didn't actually know how long he'd been going, but he was sure to give the main camp a wide berth....if only to keep from startling someone.

Slowing near the stream, the wolf bent to drink before freezing. Hearing had always been his keenest sense. He could hear enough from the camp to make out that nothing was amiss, however, someone was approaching. Or maybe something. Turning his head, the giant black wolf with brown dusting, waited...patiently to see who, or what, was heading his way with more than enough remaining human awareness not to snarl or bear his teeth, and yet ready all the same just in case. He hadn't allowed all that many people to see him, but someone might now. Not that he actually minded. If it was an animal, though....well, he was hungry, as his stomach told him through a hopeful pang.

Who was coming? Animal or friend? Nick lowered his body closer to the ground, keen eyes focusing and neutral expression across his wolf face, because he was about to find out.

"Good," she said. "Because I'm kind of attached to my fingers. All of them." She made a show of wiggling the fingers of the just kissed hand. She couldn't tell if he really was like this or was just putting on an act. Hell, she was never good at this stuff.

"Yeah," she said, acknowledging his guess. "There's an obstacle course back in the woods. Ran it twice and needed a rinse." Maria followed along. Now that it was mentioned she could use a drink.

"And lovely fingers they are." Nick laughed at her wiggling of said digits. No part of Nick would ever bite a lady's fingers off. Well, unless said lady was...particularly nefarious and/or evil...but Maria didn't seem to fit into that category, Nick figured.

"Ah, I was close! I should get points for that." Nick teased, putting his hands into the water and bringing it up to his face before dropping them once he'd finished. "Good run on the obstacle course?" HE inquired, curiously, focused on the woman easily.

"I think I'm in better shape now than I was back home," she said with a tone of amusement in her voice. Maria repeated Nick's action by scooping up some water to splash over her face then again to push through her hair. She'd like an actual wash, but since she had intended on going back to work at the site it was almost pointless.

"If I ever go back I might put in a recommendation that our training facility include a course like that for the recruits." She knew it sounded military. SHIELD was a step or seven above the usual branches of service. All of the agents served in the field at some point or another and had to remain in top physical condition. She knew for a fact she was stronger and faster than she'd been back home.

"What about you?" she asked as she straightened. She couldn't help it. She found herself judging his physical form before she realized what she was doing and almost laughed at herself. Here she was looking at a not unattractive naked man and she was judging him by SHIELD standards. Sheesh!

Nick couldn't help himself, with the invitation he had to look Maria over in a bit of a more thorough manner. If nothing else, Nick liked what he saw...an athletically built female who obviously took care of herself. Soldier, yeah totally, but Nick couldn't say that he was against the idea of taking a few orders from her, like a private might, at some point....because she'd probably make it well worth his while.

"Well, if nothing else you've got that as a takeaway from this experience." Nick joked, somewhat amused. He couldn't say that he planned on leaving....because he wasn't planning to go anywhere. This was the only place where he might actually get to keep not only his child, but the mother, if he got so lucky as to find someone. There wouldn't be the necessity to kidnap his child, and for him that made it well worth it.

"I won't be making recommendations to my pack to build an obstacle course, personally." Nick responded with that goofy ass grin on his face, obviously not serious about that, but teasing her. "No, I was letting my furry side get a good run in. All work and no fuzzy time makes Nick a bit quick to change into a wolf without meaning to. And grumpy. So, I make sure I get plenty of runs in." Nick explained, shrugging.

Even after being here for over a month and indulging in more than one sexual partner Maria still wasn't used to being looked at as an attractive woman. It meant she moved how she wanted without being self-conscious, and was always surprised if she caught someone appreciating the view.

"Not that I was planning on returning any time soon," she said as she smoothed back her hair. "My orders were to see this to completion. Permanent reassignment. Now that I'm here...I want to stay." The last bit was spoken as if she were a little surprised to realize that. Maria liked it here, and for more than sex. The challenge of beginning a new civilization was exciting. She didn't take it lightly, however. There was a lot of responsibility there.

That grin of his was catching. You would have to be a lot more remote than Maria's personality could be to not find yourself smiling along with Nick. He even got a chuckle from her. "How very responsible of you. Looked more like you were having fun. Maybe next time I run the course I should have you chase me to push my limits."
