Four days of nonstop rain had most of the people on the island feeling out of sorts and on edge. At least the main camp area stayed dry the past few days so that they could begin building the medical center, but Sydney was glad she suggested another bonfire for this evening, figuring that everyone could use an opportunity to relax and socialize. Maybe by fostering the sense of community even more, they would appease the gods and finally get the sunshine back.

There was plenty of food available for everyone and the fire was blazing for both light and warmth. Off to one side, the finished boards were set up for Cam's bean bag toss game. They really did need to figure out some additional leisure activities they could partake in here without equipment. It was too bad they didn't have a radio.

"Ahhh," Lynne replied. "It doesn't sound that terrifying, I promise. That actually makes a lot of sense, you're right; no one ever thinks of where," she agreed. The word wife caught her off guard, considering where they were, but she just assumed the wife was also around here somewhere and Lynne tucked away the little sliver of disappointment that such a gorgeous man was already spoken for. Of course he was; that was her luck.

She nodded again and smiled. "Hey, that's the important part, though," she agreed. "Money doesn't buy happiness but it definitely freaking helps sometimes," she said, only half-joking.

"It does," he said. "But what it doesn't do? Keep you safe."

He quirked a smile. "I'm pretty sure my life went full tilt unlucky -- my wife and daughter died in fairly quick succession." Close enough, anyway. He didn't particularly feel like giving that whole explanation. Not to someone he'd just met.

That was clearly a story you saved for the second meeting. Duh.

Lynne's expression dropped into a mixture of shock and empathy at that. So not what she was expecting to hear. "I'm so sorry," she breathed, brow creased with concern.

Shit, no wonder he was here...
