Four days of nonstop rain had most of the people on the island feeling out of sorts and on edge. At least the main camp area stayed dry the past few days so that they could begin building the medical center, but Sydney was glad she suggested another bonfire for this evening, figuring that everyone could use an opportunity to relax and socialize. Maybe by fostering the sense of community even more, they would appease the gods and finally get the sunshine back.

There was plenty of food available for everyone and the fire was blazing for both light and warmth. Off to one side, the finished boards were set up for Cam's bean bag toss game. They really did need to figure out some additional leisure activities they could partake in here without equipment. It was too bad they didn't have a radio.

Finnick had been working with the construction crew all day and hadn't had time to prepare a song or story. He kind of had the impression that with all the rain and the building maybe fewer people would be up for that sort of thing this time anyway.

After finishing work he had gone to rinse off the sweat in the lake before coming to the bonfire. His clothes were still wet, as they had been most of the time for days. He took off his shirt and hung it up on a tree branch nearby so at lest he'd have one less clammy piece of clothing clinging to him.

He was tired and he hoped the rain would stop soon, but that didn't mean he was in a bad mood. In fact, he was feeling pretty good about things now that he felt like he was being useful again. He was looking forward to relaxing, spending time with people, listening to some conversations, and maybe playing a round on Cam's new game.

He grabbed some food and sat down near the fire, hoping that he could dry off a little and waited to see what would happen.

Now that Sydney was getting more comfortable here — and with herself — she barely hesitated before approaching Finnick and sitting next to him near the fire. She had a coconut shell of water in her hand, but was skipping the food. If she was going to end up naked in front of other people, she needed to make sure she didn't gain any weight.

"Hi, Finnick, right?" she said, offering him a brief smile. "I'm Sydney. I've seen you around but I don't think we really ever had a chance to talk."

Finnick smiled his most charming smile at her as she sat down. It was almost a reflex when meeting someone new for him to try to charm them and get them on his side right away, even when there weren't sides and it wasn't necessary.

"Hi Sydney. Yeah, I've seen you around. You helped Cam with the bean-bag game, didn't you? We should give that a try later, it looks like it might be fun."

"I did, yes," she said, her cheeks flushing a little at the mention of Cam since she couldn't help but think of the night they spent together and how good it made her feel. She wasn't quite ready to go further than that, but she also wasn't blind and Finnick was very attractive.

Sydney smiled again. "I'm not sure I'll be any good, but I'm willing to try."

"I thought so. Well, since you helped build it you should probably get first crack at it."

Finnick stood up in one smooth motion, which really showed off his bare abs. He set his plate of food aside and then offered her his hand to help her up.

Sydney was momentarily distracted by his abs, which were quite impressive, but she took his hand and allowed him to help her up. "I don't really know how the game works," she admitted. "I think we just toss the beanbags at the hole and get a point if we get it through? And then whoever gets the most points wins."

He noticed her looking at him for a minute, but didn't think much of it. Everybody looked at him sometimes. She was attractive, but she seemed shy. Although, she'd been willing to come and sit with and talk to a stranger, so maybe she wasn't so shy after all.

"Yeah, that makes sense." Finnick didn't know how the game worked either, but obviously the object had to be to throw the beanbags at the holes.

"So you haven't played it either? I thought maybe you were from the same world where they had this game." He didn't know why he thought that, actually. He'd never talked to her enough to know where she was from.

"Oh, I think we do have this game where I'm from," Sydney admitted. "But I don't really... socialize a lot, so I've never been anywhere to play it." She was a little embarrassed to admit that, but she was making an effort to be more outgoing here. It was just taking her a little more time than some of the others to get there.

They walked over to the boards and she picked up the beanbags, which were actually filled with clean, dry sand. She handed three of them to Finnick. "Do you want to go first?"

He'd been right the first time, then. She must be shy.

He took the beanbags from her and tossed them up and down in his hand, testing the weight. "Sure, I can go first." He threw the first one and it came close, but didn't quite go in. Well, first try and he was still getting used to it.

"Your turn?" He asked.

Sydney walked over to stand next to the board that Finnick was aiming at. After he made his first throw, she attempted to toss her first beanbag towards the board he was standing next to. It was a weak throw and it didn't even make it all the way to the board.

"Well, I think my athletic prowess is fairly obvious," she joked.

"First one's just practice, right?" He grimaced.

Finnick lined up his next throw, and this time his superior athleticism and coordination won out and it went in. "One point for me. I think I'm getting the hang of this."

"Sure," Sydney agreed. She didn't think that practice was going to do much for her, especially when he got his next shot in so easily. Oh well, despite how driven and competitive she was in other areas of her life, she knew athleticism wasn't something she excelled at.

She tossed the second bag, putting a little more force behind the throw, and managed to hit the top of the board this time. "Getting closer, right?"

Finnick lined up his next shot and it went in again. Now that he had the hang of it, this wasn't going to be much of a challenge for him.

"Do you want me to help you line up your shot?" He walked over to the board where she was standing.

There was a brief moment of hesitation before Sydney nodded. "Yes, please, I can use all the help I can get," she said. She realized that meant he would need to touch her, but ever since spending the night with Cam earlier in the week, she was a little more comfortable with the idea of being close to other people.

Finnick was really cute and, from everything she'd seen, he seemed really sweet. He was definitely someone she figured she should get to know better.

With a bolder, more flirty girl Finnick would have just gone ahead and touched her without permission, if he got the impression it would be OK, but he could sense that he needed to be a little more careful with Sydney.

He stood behind her, his body very closer to hers, and took her hand in his, and showed her how to swing her arm, by moving their arms together. "Just like that." He said, his mouth close to her ear.

Sydney managed not to tense when he stood right behind her, but her mouth felt dry when he spoke right next to her ear. He really was very attractive and this almost felt like a scene in a movie, except she was more the awkward sidekick type than the stunning ingenue. At least in her own eyes.

"Okay, I think I got it," she said, waiting for him to move his arm so she could swing her own back and throw the beanbag. She actually got it in the hole this time and she turned to face Finnick with a grin. "I did it!"

"You sure did!" He smiled at her.

She was facing him, and only a couple inches away. The situation seemed to call for it, so he leaned in and kissed her, lightly.

"Maybe it's better to play as a team."

The kiss caught Sydney by surprise, but she decided that she kind of liked it so she leaned in and kissed him again, a bit more firmly, though still briefly. "I think playing as a team is probably a good idea," she agreed.

Well, that was all the encouragement Finnick needed.

He kissed her again, much longer, slow and sensuous, but still not very deep or demanding, while his hands lightly caressed her arms.

"This is a fun game too, though."

Sydney shivered a little when he ran his hands over her arms and smiled up at him when he finally pulled back and spoke. He was a good kisser too, though in a different way from Cam.

"I can't really complain about it," she admitted with a shy smile.

The shy ones wanted to be seduced. That was what Finnick's experience taught him. Or at least the ones who wanted to act shy, also wanted to act like he was seducing them. No one who spent that kind of money on a whore was truly shy about it, but seduction was a game some clients wanted to play.

He didn't think Sydney was acting, but otherwise the situation wasn't that different. He kissed her again, moving his hands to her waist and the sliding them up her back.

He pulled back and looked at her with smouldering eyes. "Do you want to go somewhere more private? Some games don't need an audience."

"Oh. Um," Sydney should have expected that most of the people here would assume that kissing was going to lead to more. "I... um... I've never had sex," she admitted, her cheeks getting warm. "And I'm not really ready for that yet."

She had really enjoyed the touching with Cam though and she kind of wouldn't mind doing that. "But we could kiss and touch, if you want?"

That stopped Finnick cold. He let go of her and took a small step back.

"Wait. You're a virgin? What are you even doing here? Why would you want to come to a place like this??"

He could not get his head around it. After what had happened to him he was not about to take someone's innocence, even if she had wanted him to. And why on earth Earth would she want to be here of all places?

Sydney wasn't expecting that kind of reaction and she folded her arms awkwardly as if to protect herself from him. "Because I want to build a new society. A better society. And there is plenty that needs done here that doesn't involve sex."

"Yes OK, I get that part." He put up his hands in a gesture of peacemaking. "That's the main reason I'm here too. I'm more about the building than the sex. But if I were you I wouldn't want to loose my virginity with some random stranger on Sex Island. You can do better than that. You still have a chance for a normal life, and none of this is normal."
