I heard that some people still need baskets. So I made some. I left them in the middle of camp. The slightly smaller ones are watertight, and the larger ones are a looser weave.

I should have thought of this sooner. I made a few for myself and Lyd other people early on, but I didn't tell everyone, so I am now. I can make baskets, mats, even hats to keep of the sun. Also, the ones I made are pretty utilitarian, but I know how them with patterns to make them prettier, if anyone's interested in that. I know there's not a lot of decoration here.

Ok you haven't tried to teach someone whose fingers fumble on everything except a keyboard, but I'd kind of like to learn a new skill and weaving seems like something I might be able to do.

Oh! Sorry. I'm Chloe. Yeah, I just got here. Nice to meet you, Finnick.

Nice to meet you Chloe. So you're one of those techie types? I'd like to make a deal with you. See, I'm good at this primitive survival stuff, I can fish and make rope and nets and weave and build things...but I know much, much less in other areas. Let's just say that where I'm from we didn't get a very comprehensive education. So if I teach you something now, maybe you can teach me something from your world later when it becomes relevant?

And don't worry. I promise you can learn this. Plus, I'm a good teacher.

Sure! Granted, from what I've seen we're decades if not centuries away from the things I know best, but who knows! I might surprise us both and know something useful.

You never know. We've made more progress so far than I would have predicted. Besides, even if we don't quite get there technologically, even just facts about your world might be useful.

Facts I have. My friends used to say I was a fount of useless facts.

I don't think any fact is truly useless. So, next time someone from your time says something I don't understand because I don't have the frame of reference, I'll ask you to explain it to me.

Sure! I take it you're from a completely different time? Future/past? Entirely different planet?

Do we even know what planet this is? Maybe we're all from a completely different planet.

I think I'm from the future compared to most of the people here. That's what I've kind of put together based on what people have said. Like they're from America, and the place I'm from used to be called North America a long time ago. Which is ironic because know much less about the tech stuff, but what can I say? Tyrannical governments that deliberately keep their subjects ignorant suck in any time.

Oh wow! I hadn't even thought of that. This could be an entirely different realm of existence, really. Alternate universe. Quantum world theories.

Oppressive dystopian? Unfortunately, there are more theories about that kind of societal outcome than ones that achieve world peace. Humanity leans more toward self-destruction and classism using survival of the fittest justification. Sometimes without even realizing it.

I would call in one of those 'explaining stuff' markers right now, except I'm not sure it would help.

Yeah, oppressive dystopian sounds about right. I guess preventing that stuff from happening here is part of our job.

Yeah. That's how it was explained to me. I'm glad I can be a part of that.

Me too. It's good to have a chance to start over and not make the same mistakes.

It's not every day you get the opportunity to do things better. When are you available for the weaving lessons?

I'm a little busy today. I'm trying to make a dugout canoe, and it's hard work and slow going. How about tomorrow?

You are just a man of all trades! Whenever you have the time is fine! Thanks!

Not all trades, just those related to being on the water, mainly.

Great, I'll see you tomorrow, Chloe.
