2006. Bart had been gone for a year. He remembered that day Bart went missing, was pulled into the Speed Force like it was yesterday. He'd become so obsessed with finding Thaddeus Thawne Virgil should have seen it coming. He'd hoped after they rescued him things would get better and turn around once he healed. They only spiraled backwards and kept falling until they hit rock bottom. Virgil had kept a close eye on Bart since they brought him home from the Brooklyn Bridge. Tried to be there for him, but nothing worked. Virgil couldn't get through to him and worried more. It'd been a year of that worry, those mixed emotions bottled up inside him. It was really only a matter of time before they broke free.
The signs were already showing. He was tired and it showed physically as well as mentally. He didn't know how to react to Bart's appearance. He was happy he was alright, and angry all the same. He'd been so angry for so long..Dealing had never been his strong suit. Dealing alone even worse. Sure he made friends. But nobody compared to Bart. Losing him was like losing part of himself. The yin to his yang. When Bart disappeared his world fell apart and did a one eighty. For the longest time he stopped taking care of himself, even stopped talking altogether. He loved him..without him it was like the world around him changed, it wasn't that it shrank or anything, without Bart there was just less in it.
He sat on the rooftop in uniform looking out over his city in deep thought. His head sank down into his gloved hands resting his cheek against it and closing his eyes half way. One of his knees was hugged to his chest, the other hanging over the side of the tall building.
