Ahh, memories.
Sylar couldn’t help himself. Anytime he was in a cab – even an L.A. one – he thought about Chandra Suresh. His memories of the man brought a sly smile to his face – perhaps not the appropriate response, given that he had murdered Suresh. And yet, it had been so much more than that, hadn’t it? Although Chandra had not been the first person Gabriel Gray had killed, it was his death that really served as “Sylar’s” birth. In that sense, Sylar was still somewhat grateful to the man (although he would never admit it), for helping put him on the path he found himself today.
And where was that, exactly? At the moment, it was sitting in the back of a stolen taxi, currently being driven by his “hostage” Elle Bishop (even if her recent willingness to go along with his plans had him reconsidering the “hostage” term). Upon her revelation that Claire Bennet was in this city – this world – with them, he hadn’t wasted much time rushing her out of the small motel they had been holed up in. He had then set about finding transportation, and that led them to this cab.
Luckily, the cab driver had not been near the vehicle at the time, allowing them to simply steal the vehicle rather than resort to violence. It’s not that Sylar wouldn’t have been willing to kill the driver, if necessary. But he was always grateful to avoid killing a “non-special” person, whenever possible. After all, what would the death of a simple cabbie do for him? Nothing…not like the death he was hoping to soon lay claim to.
Claire Bennet. He still couldn’t believe it was true. He had been in a constant state of annoyance (and sometimes even flat-out anger) ever since that Wolfram & Hart weasel had somehow sent him to this place, but the now offered opportunity to get another chance at the cheerleader had significantly brightened his spirits. Of course, he realized this still all depended on whether or not Elle was telling the truth. And, even if she was, if she could truly aid him in finding Bennet.
He leaned forward in his seat to talk to her. He had insisted she drive – ostensibly to maintain the illusion that theirs was just a normal cab ride to anyone who happened to glance at their vehicle. Really, though, he just wanted to make sure he was behind her. He had found it was always better to be behind those you were keeping captive. This was not the kind of information he had personally been aware of before, but then, he had learned so much in the past year, hadn’t he?
“Now, do you really think you can help me find the cheerleader? Because, I’ll tell you, I’d really hate to be disappointed. And I don’t think you would like it all that much either.”
