The City of Angels was shrouded in darkness, the sun had been seized from it's customary place in the sky, leaving only memories of the warmth and safety it provided. It was more than just a star, it was a burning beacon of hope, a symbol of virtue, incorruptible during it's daily journey of rising in the east and setting in the west with the changing of time. When bright light bathed the earth, the bulk of it's populace were unafraid to go about their daily lives. Children were free to enjoy the simple pleasures of a playground, families could partake in the vacations they had been saving up for, the possibilities were endless. Without it? The world as they knew it underwent radical changes on every level of existence. Nightmares became reality, monsters walked the streets, fear gripped anyone it could within it's powerful clutches. It was a place ruled by dark predators, those who wished to prey upon whom they considered weak, the ones who wanted nothing more than to revel in the misery that could be caused.
Power had been shifted exponentially in such a short amount of time, the balance changing from one hand to the other, making it almost impossible to brace yourself for the fall out. It was chaos in the streets, the absence of light bringing out the less honorable nature in people, the greedy taking what they could, the wicked doing as they saw fit. The war had been pushed into overdrive since that fateful moment, battles growing in both frequency and brutality, the forces of evil feeling more bold as the seemingly eternal night continued. Even in the midsts of all this, the mission was far from dead, it still burned in the hearts and minds of many, those who were willing to act as guardians and protectors, to brave the storm that waited outside for them.
It was the reason Angel currently stood within the lobby of the Hyperion, because he knew all of the people inside were willing to act. They wanted to make a difference, change the tide, restore the order and peace that had been deprived from the city. The message had been clear, decisive, delivered to all of them. No more waiting, it was time to make a difference. The lobby was to serve as a gathering point, the stronghold of their operation, it was within these walls that plans would be discussed, decisions would be made, and the fate of Los Angeles would be determined. One by one familiar faces began to surround him, some had been been with him for years, others were newly formed allies, but just as willing and dedicated to the cause. There was an intensity to be found in his eyes, face belying a calm demeanor, though inside his mind raged, shifting through what seemed like thousands of thoughts at once, trying to put together everything he wanted to express.
"I would start off by thanking all of you for coming, but each one of us is aware we don't have time for pleasantries or idle chatter. Even right now as we speak, people are being attacked, homes are being destroyed, and hope is fading quickly. We can't let that happen. Not while there's any strength left in our bodies. I'm not going to give you an up lifting speech, promise you victory, or swear that everything will work out in the end. Their numbers only increase with every minute that passes, while ours are beginning to dwindle. But we have the means to fight back, the advantage on our side, and it's now or never. We can restore the sun to it's rightful place, the time is right, and we have what we were missing. The Stone of Refazort. I stole it from the Wolfram and Hart vaults, but I had to wait until now or it would have just been a useless artifact. They know we have it, they're going to send their best to try and stop us, and that's why I need each and every one of you.
Two groups, each serving their own purpose. Anyone versed in magic, I need you to stay in the lobby, there's a spell to be performed, and it's going to take a lot. The second group is going to be dedicated to defending the premises. Do whatever you can, help in any way you can. I don't care how little or big the contribution is, anything you can do to help is necessary, we're going to need all of it. Wes, you're in charge of defense, get everyone on the same page. Anyone involved in the spell, let's get to work."
