Annual Hogsmeade Fall Festival - Day One

Who: Open to All
What: Annual Rummage Sale!
Where: Outside the Hog's Head
When: November 19, all day

Under the tent that has been erected for the occasion lies a large number of items, from clothing on racks to books to knick-knacks and furniture. There is a special section set aside for the items donated by Aberforth Dumbledore, having place of honour among the selection. Among the items donated that used to belong to Albus Dumbledore are:
  • A fine selection of robes and hats in various colours and styles
  • An incredibly large variety of fuzzy socks
  • A bird perch formerly used for Fawkes
  • A trunk filled with mysterious items
  • Many books on charms and potions
  • A silver canister filled with sherbet lemons
  • A portrait of Gellert Grindelwald - very small, about palm-sized

Percy had needed to get away from the Burrow for a while, to lose himself in a crowd of people who weren't members of his family and who weren't trying to feed him to bursting. He had to promise his mother he would be home soon before she let him out of her sight, but then he was thankfully Apparating to Hogsmeade.

He'd actually forgotten about the festival until he'd arrived in the middle of a crowd. Shops all over Hogsmeade had tables out front and signs advertising special sales for the occasion. He tried walking over to a jeweller's table, but felt as if he'd been punched in the stomach when he spotted a ring shaped like a dragon. It was exactly the sort of thing Charlie would have liked.

He turned away and lost himself in the crowd, allowing it to lead him wherever it went until he found himself at the rummage sale. Most of the visitors were drawn toward the garments and the furniture, but Percy's eyes focused on something all too familiar - the perch that had been in the late Headmaster's office. Percy remembered seeing it upon one of his visits there as Head Boy and thinking how he would love one just like it for his owl. In fact, Hermes had been rather put out ever since Percy had brought Penelope's cat home. Such a nice gift for his owl would go a long way toward easing the bird's uncertainty as to his place in the flat.

Percy found one of the volunteers and purchased the perch, then brought it home to his flat. It was a small set of actions, but nevertheless a welcome reprieve from dwelling on thoughts of yet another dead brother.
