Who: Hannah and Rosalind
What: Hannah picks up an extra shift (6-10pm)
When: Tuesday, October 28, 2003
Where: The Leaky Cauldron

It had already been a long day. Hannah had worked her regular shift for the day and then in exchange for having someone work Friday for her she was picking up the later shift. She didn't really have to take Friday off, Hannah just didn't want to have to rush when it came to getting ready for the event.

Tonight she found herself doing a mixture of handling the bar and picking up a table here and there. After filling two bar orders and refilling a row of fire whiskeys she picked up a tray and headed out onto the floor. She meandered through the tables sending dirty dishes flying from the tables and up over the heads of the patrons to the wash bin. She nodded to several of the regulars and stopped occasionally to have a brief conversation. With a new order for the kitchen she headed back toward the bar. Sometimes, she missed the hustle and the rush of the later shifts. Hannah was glad though that working these was now entirely her choice rather than a tiring necessity.

"That bad of a day?" she asked. Of course they didn't have any of the luck potion. If memory served Hannah correctly it was quite expensive because it took so long to brew. Normally when she caught a customer in such a mood she would offer then an entire bottle. However, the lady was drinking wine rather than firewhiskey so it wasn't likely she'd be downing an entire bottle. Then again wine drinkers were usually able to handle the alcohol better than those who drowned in fire whiskey.

She reached for a rag to wipe up some of the wine that had sloshed out of the glass. Hannah paused when the woman asked if she had a boyfriend. Usually such a question didn't come until the patron had a few and typically it was a bloke. Of course, the woman could just be trying to make conversation to get her mind off her own troubles.

"Yes," she wiped the table a smile lighting her face.

Ros smiled at the girl's smile. Ah, poor thing - likely thought herself deeply in love. It wouldn't last, she was sure of it - it rarely did when actual love was involved. It was one of the reasons why she did what she did. A healthy marriage took far more than love, and that in itself wasn't even a necessity.

"A handsome bloke, I imagine. One who think himself quite lucky to have caught a lovely young lady such as yourself."

She took another sip before continuing.

"I'll give you a tip, just in case you ever find yourself in this kind of situation. If he should ever compare you to his mother, intentionally or not... take it as a compliment, as that's how he meant it. Don't... overreact." She winced. "It can get ugly, especially when magic's involved."

Hannah wasn't worried about where her relationship with Ernie stood. They had been friends for twelve years and knew just about everything there was to know about each other. Of course they each had their own secrets, Ernie likely more so than she, but she was certain they would be able to make it through any rift.

"Can't really say who caught whom," she responded as she poured a firewhiskey for a patron a bit down the bar who had just flashed his empty glass. She sent the drink to him as she continued. "We've known each other most of our lives and just finally figured out that we seem to just fit better than anyone else." Truth be told neither of them had really dated much. She liked to think it was because the friendship forged between them and Justin had served to keep them as stable as anything else could have.

"I'll keep that in mind," she nodded at the woman's advice. Though she doubted she'd ever find herself compared to his mother as he rarely if ever spoke of anyone in his family other than Heather.
