Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 12 2003, character: ernie macmillan, character: roger davies

Who: Ern and Roger
What: Zombies! Inferi! I mean...something like that...
Where: Outside of the Leaky Cauldron
When: November 12, 20:00
Rating: Likely worksafe, but may contain swearing

Ern never envisioned his day being like this. If someone told him that he'd spend his day off fighting inferi-like creatures, he would've told them to stop joking, as he wouldn't joke about such things. These were the sorts of things that really did disturb him at quite a level.

He did anticipate experiencing the memory after having completed the surveillance assignment at Percy's flat, but he didn't expect the living nightmare that he was owled and ordered to come in shortly after noon. He had taken Michael's potion shortly after he had gotten back, and experienced the terror, but to a lesser degree. It was something that he was grateful for when the owl started tapping on the glass of his bedroom window a few hours later.

He had soon found himself in the thick of things, and oddly enough the intense fear that he had initially experienced with the thoughts and ideas of having to fend these sorts of things off was pushed aside. He had to survive this, after all. And being frozen in terror wasn't conducive to faring very well with things that were trying to beat anything and anyone in the way. His team was just given the assignment of rounding them up and ensuring the safety of the public. He had a number of these--things--neutralized and sent back to Ministry cells to be contained, but felt as if they just kept on appearing from the woodworks.

A long sigh escaped from his lips as the team took a breather after sending away a couple of its members to St. Mungo's due to their injuries. All he did was ache at the moment, ached from his lack of sleep, having being hit with flailing fists and feet when pulling one of the plain-clothed inferi-like creatures attacked one of his men, and from just the uncertainty of not knowing what will happen next or when this would be over... He wiped his tired eyes with the sleeve of his 'clean enough' uniform, in the hopes of wiping the tiredness away. "We'll have to check and secure the perimeter," he said, gesturing at the Leaky Cauldron. "Hopefully it'd be straightforward. We'd also have to secure the boundary between the muggle and magic world, in case any of these things should escape."

"Of course," Ernie said. "I suppose they could've been recently killed and then made into inferi." Ernie still couldn't really help but speculate. That thought actually disturbed him, since it implied that someone would be deranged enough to both kill these people and then reanimate them. And he would've said that he'd seen no less than thirty that day.

"Or maybe they're the ones who have gotten the dementor's kiss," he added another thought, just as unsettling as the last. It would explain why they did wear uniforms, and why they didn't look particularly rotten.

Roger was thinking over both of Ernie's suggestions. "Either way, if they are dead or have received the kiss... they didn't just start getting up and walking on their own. Someone is behind this mess," Roger said. It was something they were going to have to look into, but Roger had a feeling it was connected to all the other cases he was working on lately. The dreams, Zurlo's death, all the murders.

"Well, it looks like you got everything under control around here. I should go see if I'm needed anywhere else," Roger said, but he still implied that if Ernie needed more help he could stay.

"Yeah, I think it's rather safe to say that this is the case," Ern said with a sigh. "Whoever it is...whether it is one or many...apparently has the ability and will to do great harm. I wonder to what end though, really."

He shrugged and looked at the Leaky, and with impeccable timing a witch had returned to him with the report that the site was all clear. "I think it should be fine, Davies. Thank you for checking in. I'll alert the Department if anything arises, but I would appreciate if you can notify them that the Leaky Cauldron has been secured."

"I for one would rather not find out the end game, and just stop them before things get worse," Roger said. He did believe things could get worse than living inferi.

Roger saw one of Ernie's hitwitches coming back to check in and he nodded at Ernie. "Alright Macmillan. You're very welcome," he said grinning. "I'm going to check farther up the Alley, but I'll let everyone know the Leaky is secure," he said heading off down the street.
