Another vision
Who: Bianca Dunstan & Jasper Dorny
What: Has a vision just before bed
When: Around 11:45 PM, Tuesday November 11th
Where: In her flat
Rating: Worksafe

It was refreshing finally being able to be alone again. Bianca appreciated Justin's company, but deep down she couldn't get past the knowledge that he was there to provide her an alibi. And while it was very nice having someone around, him and Jasper both, it was impossible to have real alone time with someone constantly there. She hated the fact that it too another death to make her seem less suspect, but she was glad that Justin didn't have to stay around either.

She showered and changed into her pyjamas, then made sure that Delphi was fed and had fresh water before going for the Jasmine King novel she was rereading until the next one came out. But before she got there, she saw her vision begin to cloud, and knew she was about to See something. She got to the bed just before the sight took over.

People. The streets of Diagon were awash with people, all clad in a faded blue-grey. No, not all, but most. A few wore other clothes, but they all wore strange pins on their lapels. She couldn't make out the shape of the pins, nor the faces of anyone in the crowd. In fact, the entire vision wasn't very clear at all. It ended abruptly, leaving Bianca clinging to her bed, shaking visibly.

There had been something wrong with all those people, but she had no idea what. Worse, there was a nasty pit of fear in her stomach, and suddenly she wished she wasn't alone at all anymore. She sat there on her bed for interminable minutes, debating reaching out to either Jasper or Justin. Finally, she reached for her phone and scrolled down to the J's. Jasper's name came up first and she called him. She'd told him about one of her visions before and she wasn't sure she should wait on telling someone about this one. Nervous as the thought might have made her, she was going to ask him back over. The one thing she was sure of was that sleep was not going to come easy tonight.

Jasper was halfway through the Prelude of Bach's Suite No. 1 when he heard his phone ringing. He'd been having difficulty sussing out the final chapter of his novel since...well, since Halloween, and his agent had gently reminded him earlier that day just how swiftly his deadline was approaching.

The added stress hadn't helped matters, to the point where he was still up despite having tried to going to bed almost an hour ago. But at least that meant he was awake when his mobile rang at - Jasper glanced at the clock on his cable box as he carefully set the cello aside and got up - a quarter to midnight. He reached the phone on his bed by the third ring. "Bianca?" He'd seen the name lighting up the screen and his heart was already in his throat before he even asked, "What's wrong?" Something had to be wrong for her to be calling so late.

Bianca exhaled a breath she'd only just begun to hold. "It's...I just had another vision. That woman wasn't in it this time, but I still..." She covered her mouth for a moment, trying to shake off the chills the vision left her with. "It still left a terrible feeling behind," she finished, the words not at all adequate enough.

She hesitated again and forced herself to continue, speaking in a rush before she lost her nerve. "I'm sorry to call you so late. I didn't mean to disturb you I just- I don't feel-" She squeezed her eyes shut and tried again. "Could you come by, maybe? Just for a bit?"

Jasper could hear the fear, the uncertainty in Bianca's voice and he was already across the room pulling out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt before she even asked for his company. "It's all right, I was up anyway. I'll be right over." He'd kicked off his sweatpants and had a leg in the jeans already, but he paused to ask, "Should I floo or...?" He realized he wasn't even sure she was hooked up to the network. Flooing would get him there the fastest, but he'd make do if it wasn't an option.

Bianca let out a relieved sound that as every bit as shaky as her voice had been. "Yes, you can Floo over. I'm hooked up." She wasn't skilled at Apparating, and it always left her feeling queasy, so she didn't do it frequently. That meant she frequently used Floo to travel, and getting her flat hooked up to the network was the obvious solution. "Th-thank you," she added. She was already feeling better, knowing she wouldn't be alone in just a few more moments. All she had to do now was wait for Jasper.

She was still shaken though, and it didn't occur to her to put on anything more than a light robe to stop the chills, nor did she think to put away the book she'd been about to read.

Hearing Bianca sound so relieved made Jasper's stomach flip-flop in a way that was distracting, but he made himself focus. "It's no trouble, Bianca, really. I'll be over in a few minutes." He waited until she was off the line, then hurried to finish getting dressed: jeans, t-shirt, jumper, and trainers. Glasses firmly settled for his face, wand and mobile tucked in his pocket, Jasper started to head towards his bedroom door, but paused.

A few minutes later, he appeared in a puff of smoke and ash in Bianca's small fireplace, his arms wrapped protectively around his cello case. "Bianca?" he called between coughs as he stepped into the room.

Bianca jumped up when she heard a sound in the fireplace. She smiled weakly at Jasper, glad to see him, and slightly surprised he'd brought his cello along. "Here," she called out, coming closer. "Thank you for coming," she replied, her eyes going from his face to his cello case and back. She hesitated then reached up and brushed stray dust from his shoulders. "You brought your cello," she added, pointing out the obvious.

Jasper returned Bianca's smile, his just as uncertain as hers. "Hi," he greeted her quietly, trying not to notice that she was still in her pyjamas. He shrugged off her thanks, gaze sliding away in embarrassment. "You called, I came. It's not like I'd say no when you were so upset." The light, unexpected touch on his shoulder made Jasper look back at her in surprise. "Oh, um. Yeah. I thought I might play for you, help you relax. If you want."

She smiled at him in gratitude. "Thank you," she repeated herself, and flushed when she realized she was doing so. "I would love for you to play something, please." Bianca's flat was very small, and she had rearranged things based on her lifestyle. That was to say the fireplace was actually in the smaller of the rooms, mean to be the bedroom. Since Bianca didn't have many guests, she'd made that the sitting and dining area and took the large room for her bedroom. What the meant though was that the good seating was actually in her bedroom proper, where the space was.

She found herself tripping over herself explaining that to Jasper as to why she was offering him a seat - in her room. There wouldn't really be much place for him to settle down and play in the the living area. Part of her sudden burst of talking was nerves at Jasper's presence at all, but most of it was due to her still feeling shaken up after her vision.

She sat on the end of her bed, but there were several comfortable chairs about as well. Next to her bed, which had a country blue bedspread, was a night table upon which was a novel, a glass of water and a packet of gerbil food. Next to the table on the floor was Delphi's cage, the gerbil in question still munching away happily. Framed photographs decorated the walls, pictures taken by Bianca's own camera.

"Did you want anything? Tea? Biscuits?"

Pleased that at least he hadn't been too presumptuous and she wouldn't mind if he played for her, Jasper followed Bianca the short distance into her room. He listened to her explain why the rooms were arranged as they were, and while he could tell she was maybe a little embarrassed by it, Jasper only nodded. "It makes sense. Sometimes I wish I had a smaller place like this instead of a house with too many rooms for one person." Jasper flushed, realizing that probably made him sound incredibly pretentious.

He said as much as he settled into a well-cushioned chair near the foot of Bianca's bed. "You have a lovely place," he blurted, hoping to ease both of their obvious discomfort. "Tea would be nice, yes." Since he was awake now, he wasn't in any hurry to attempt sleep again. And he doubted she was either, if her vision has upset her enough to ring him.

Bianca's eyebrows went up. "Oh. I mean I think I understand. A big place, well it can feel kind of empty without a lot of people to fill it. My place is really small, but I tell myself it's cozy. It's nicer than 'smaller than a doxy's wing' right?"

A smile spread across Bianca's face then, not an awkward one. Just a smile. She tucked a stray hair behind her ear as she replied, "Thank you. I'll go ahead and put some tea on and when it's ready you can play for me." She moved for the door and paused to add, "I'll be right back."

Then she stepped out into the kitchen, leaving Jasper alone in her room, her book still on display next to her bed and her gerbil twitching its nose curiously up at Jasper.

Jasper nodded his agreement, expression gone unconsciously sad for a moment before Bianca's creative description brought an amused smile to his face. "I suppose I can't argue that. But you're right. It is cozy." Bianca's place might have been small, but it felt like a home.

After she went off to make tea, Jasper found himself sitting awkwardly on the edge of his chair. His eyes roamed the room, taking in the decor. The pictures on the wall made him smile, and he wondered if they'd all been taking by Bianca. Curious to see a few up close, he got up, leaving his cello propped against the chair, and walked closer to the wall.

The chitter of the gerbil caught his attention, though, and Jasper headed over to it instead. It was just as adorable as its owner and he flushed at the thought, but he decided it was true. He bent low to get a closer look, but something on the bedside table caught his eye. It was a Jasmine King novel. Jasper's face went bright red at the realization that Bianca read his books.

Bianca busied herself in the kitchen, getting down a few small plates and loading them with homemade jammy dodgers. She set out some tea leaves and carried the plates back into her room.

"I have some jammy dodgers here I made yesterday. Do you take cream or sugar in-" Bianca cut herself off when she saw Jasper standing by her bedside. Her face went pink, then deep red when she realised she'd left her Jasmine King novel there. The cover of the book made it quite obvious the sort of book it was, she thought, and the dog-eared condition of it also marked it a favorite.

"Oh. I...I hadn't meant to leave that..." She set down the biscuits and hurried over, not meeting Jasper's eyes out of sheer embarrassment.

At the sound of Bianca's voice, Jasper jerked upright like he'd been caught doing something wrong. "I-I was just looking at your gerbil," he tried to explain hastily, face feeling hot with embarrassment. "I didn't mean to snoop." But under the embarrassment, Jasper had to admit he was a little pleased to know Bianca not only liked his books, but that she apparently enjoyed them quite a bit.

Clearing his throat to try to alleviate some of the awkwardness, Jasper answered Bianca's aborted question. "Just cream, please. Uh, in my tea."

Bianca picked up the book and held it to her chest. She shook her head hurriedly. "No no, you weren't snooping. I mean...it was there in plain sight. I should't-" She dared a glance up and his and managed to flush deeper. She looked down at Delphi who was chittering in amused excitement. "It's all right. It's just...a but embarrassing," she admitted setting the book back up on her shelf.

She was saved by the sound of the water coming to a boil and she cleared her throat before hurrying out. She came back shortly with tea, his with cream and no sugar, and hers with both. She set down the tray carrying everything on a little ottoman next to the jammy dodgers. "So," she said, trying for some bravado, "Now you know my little secret. I read romance novels. It's...probably not as big a deal as I'm making it, right?" She sounded only half-convinced.

Jasper struggled to find words, helpless as he watched Bianca hurry out in a rush of nervous energy. The tea was a welcome distraction when she returned. It at least gave him something to do with his hands and allowed him to sit again so it didn't seem like he was looming.

"Oh no, it's not bad or anything," Jasper rushed to reassure Bianca after a blowing a little on his tea to cool it. "There's nothing wrong with reading what you enjoy. And I..." He hesitated, staring down into his tea. "I'm familiar with Ms. King's work," he admitted, feeling a little bad for not being entirely honest. But really what would she think of him then, if she found out?

Bianca went for a biscuit while she waited for the tea to cool down. It gave her something to focus on besides Jasper. But when he spoke she looked up at him in surprise "You are?" She hadn't expected that. Then she thought about it and gave him a curious look. "Was it Justin? I mean, it does seem the sort of thing he'd have an interest in, doesn't it? I haven't told him or you know he'd probably read bits aloud or something terribly embarrassing."

Bianca was still flushed but was actually a bit glad she had someone to talk to about her interests, even if it was Jasper and she'd never once thought she'd be talking to him about romance novels. Ever. "They're just...well they're awfully well written. But you know that, if you're familiar. They characters are believable and the stories themselves are always so very good." Not to mention the parts best left undiscussed in polite company.
