Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 10 2003, character: alicia spinnet, character: george weasley

Who: Alicia Spinnet and George Weasley
What: Date!
Where: Ciao Trattoria
When: November 10, 6PM
Rating: Should be worksafe at the beginning, potentially not so much so later on

George was actually nervous as he was getting ready for the date. He'd skipped out during his lunch break to make reservations at the nicest restaurant on Diagon Alley, which had been a little complicated, because really they prefered you made appointments a few weeks out, but George had it on good authority that if you greased the correct palms, you could get in. Which, thankfully, had worked, because otherwise he'd need a plan B. So now he was getting dressed and preparing to apparate to Alicia's flat to get her. He really wanted everything to go perfectly, he didn't want to blow his chance with her.

Once he was ready, he left his flat, locked up the shop, and stopped at a flower shop close by to grab a bouquet before apparating and appearing at her front door. He took one deep breath before knocking confidently on the door and waiting for her to respond.

He smiled in response, and was amused by the blush that painted her cheeks, so maybe he did have some effect on her after all. It was a good sign to say the least.

"Well at least they had a much longer period between their wars than we did. I mean, five years is not that long, and really for me it's been two, I don't count those first three. And they still had their heroes from those battles. Ours was just taken from us, I feel like that's going to shake the world's confidence a bit, especially since everyone still remembers the war all too well."

He remembered then what she'd said at the meeting the other night, about the spot and the nightmares. He reached across again and took her hand, giving her a sympathetic look, realizing this must be more traumatizing for her than it was for him, and wishing he could shoulder that burden for her. "Whatever this is, we're going to figure it out, and it's going to be ok. We'll find a way to get the world back to a more normal state. Like you said, it's been done before, once by us, we can do it again." he offered her an encouraging smile and a squeeze to the hand.

"One of ours," she corrected. "Yes, Harry did so much, but so did others. You and that radio broadcast, Neville and Ginny at Hogwarts. I bet even some at the Ministry tried rebelling in their own way. Not all of them are bad."

She squeezed his hand back and tried to shake off the maudlin thoughts, though it was hard considering she'd had a nightmare the night before. Thinking about it, she was tempted to ask him to spend the night with her, if only to have someone to be there when she woke up. She wouldn't though. If she had him over, it would be for other reasons.

"If anyone can do it, our friends can. But, please, let's talk about something else? I don't want such a nice evening to go to waste over this." Her eyes pled with him as the waiter approached, removing the dishes from their first course and replacing them with their entrees. Thankfully, he spoke little and left quickly.

George nodded. "While I agree, he was only one of many, he's the one everyone knows about. Especially those who weren't involved, I doubt they heard many if any other names mentioned. I'm just saying, as a world issue, the blow may be bigger than we now realize. But like I said, I think given the people we do have with us still, we stand a decent if not excelent chance at figuring this out and beating it. We're just going to need a few new heroes I guess." It was a strange thing to think about really, and the fact that in the seven years that Harry was at school, Voldemort couldn't kill him, no matter how hard and how many times he tried, and then someone just walks up and ends his life, it was a sobering and terrifying thought in the least.

"You're right, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring it up, it's a bad dinner conversation. How was your night out with the girls after the meeting? Angie said you were all going for drinks or something?" That seemed like a safe conversation. In his experience, girls generally liked talking about their nights out and spending time with other girlfriends. It seemed like a good direction to shoot in.

"I'm the one who brought up the meeting, so don't apologize."

She grabbed her knife and fork to cut up her spaghetti before eating it (yes, she was one of those) and chuckled at the thought of the night out.

"It was pretty much par for the course. We drank to the gills, talked about quidditch, alcohol, men, and the appeal of lesbianism - of course related to the men bit," she added with a wink. She didn't know if George knew about Katie, and didn't want to spill the beans if he didn't. It wasn't her secret to tell, after all.

"Katie was nice enough to stay at mine overnight in case I dreamed again, but thankfully I didn't. I offered her a free massage as 'payment' for my utter lack of skills in the kitchen."

He had ordered lasagna for his main dish, and it was still bubbling a little from the heat, so he decided cutting it a bit and then letting it sit was better than just diving in and scalding his tongue. Really, he wanted to keep his tongue in good order, just in case things went well after dinner. He did smile at the fact that she cut her spaghetti, it was cute and endearing, and amused him.

For a moment, he was caught a little off guard. "Well I hope you weren't considering converting, because then I'd be a bit left out to dry." He was tempted to ask about the "men" part of their conversations, curious if he'd entered into there, but knew there was no un-awkward way to breech that topic, so he didn't touch it. Especially since the men topic led to the lesbianism topic, that couldn't mean anything good. "While I would support whatever decision you made on that topic, I'm going to put in my vote against you going lesbian, just for the record." Of course, just as he said that, the waiter decided it was the perfect time to refresh their drinks, and gave him a very strange look. George just gave him a confident nod of the head, not at all uncomfortable by his presence.

"Yea well Katie is a sweetheart, I'm not surprised. And I bet she had no complaints about your food, and told you there was nothing to make up for as well." It was no secret that George and Katie were very close. He saw her as a little sister, and treated her as such, which of course included the good and bad, but she didn't seem to mind too much. "I'll have to teach you how to cook sometime then," he added.

She was quite entertained by his reaction to the lesbianism comment and his apparent devotion to the cause of ensuring she didn't switch to the 'other team'. She briefly remembered Katie's comment about not having to choose, which led to a strange image of herself and one of the other dancers 'performing' for George, which led to her taking a large gulp of her wine.

"Rest assured, I have no plans on switching at the moment... though we'll see once the night is over," she teased.

She smiled, feeling the same way about one of her best friends. "Of course she didn't complain, but I felt bad for having her over on my sofa, and not having much in the icebox for breakfast. I can make well enough for myself, but nothing really worthy for a guest."

She did goggle, however, at his comment about teaching her how to cook. "You, George Weasley, can cook? Now this is something I have to see!"

He noticed the large gulp of wine, but was none the wiser as to what had caused it. He was taking a sip of his own wine when she made her next comment, and he actually choked on it a little, coughed, then laughed. "So no pressure then, that's what you're really saying, right?" He lifted his napkin to his mouth and smiled.

He did finally start in on his own dinner once it had cooled down from lava to just burning. It was delicious, but he stayed focused on her and what she was saying. "Do you at least have a comfortable sofa? Because if so, again, I don't see Katie complaining about that. Even if it wasn't comfortable."

He laughed. "Really? You do know who my mother is, right? She did a pretty good job making sure none of us would starve once we got out on our own. Of course, some of us learned the lessons better than others. Let's just say I don't think I'll be quick to try any of Ron or Percy's cooking, but I was a bit more of a studious student. Actually, knowing how to cook helps out with some of the things I've made for the shop, believe it or not."

Her only response to the comment about pressure was a sultry, playful smile.

She tasted her spaghetti and nodded in pleasure. It was just how she liked it - how her mother loved to make it. "Well, I think the sofa's comfortable to sleep on, but most people seem to disagree. Then again, I can usually sleep just about anywhere."

Now that she thought about it, it made sense that George could cook a little at least. For people to want to eat Canary Creams and Skivving Snackboxes, they'd have to at the very least taste good. "I'm glad you took her lessons to heart. My Mum tried to teach me, but I was a terrible student, almost as bad as at school." Another bite, and she thought to try for some teasing, almost as if to gauge his response. "Though I wonder what kind of breakfast your mum taught you to make. Pancakes? French toast? Fruit in a cup?"

He was pretty sure he'd found Ally sleeping in more than a few strange places during their school years. "Yea, I remember, that must be a blessing," he smiled. He wasn't as lucky. He needed at least a pillow to fall asleep, though he'd managed to sleep through a few classes in his day, something about the drawling voice of a few of his professors was better than a pillow for putting him out.

It was true, he had a few food related things he sold, and he was quite proud of the fact that they were tasty, even if they made you ill later, it was your choice after all to eat it. Of course he had other sweets and things that didn't make you ill, and those got good reviews also. "Oh you weren't that bad at school, you were better than me in some classes, I'm sure!" He always thought of Ally as being very smart. Brains and beauty.

Her comment about breakfast caught him a little off guard, but he was quick to come up with an answer. "Well, maybe you'll just have to find out for yourself," he said with a mischevious smile. "Although I will say fruit in a cup is cheating. You have to at least put whipped cream on it or something before it counts."

"Most of the time - except when you happen to have Angelina Johnson snoring next to you, then sleep is impossible even for me. And that is the only reason I scored higher than she did in History of Magic." This last was spoken while pointing her fork in emphasis.

She chuckled. "Considering both our marks in those classes, that's not saying much - especially since you never took NEWTS." She shook her head. "I sometimes think I should have gotten on my broom and flown away before taking them too." Not that the circumstances would have been the same or what not, but it had been temptimg at the time.

She had been eating some of her spaghetti when he replied about breakfast, and she flirtatiously ran the tip of her fork along her lower lip. "Oh, definitely whipped cream. And a cherry too?"
