Summary: Ron attempts to take Hermione on a date.

Ron and Hermione hadn't really been out together for a while. It wasn't that Ron hadn't wanted to, but he never really was good at this date thing and he didn't want to let Hermione down. He thought that they deserved the time together now, though, and he wanted to stop thinking about all this nightmare stuff for a while. And it was about time they took their off again bit to on again, seeing as he planned to be watching over her closely for the foreseeable future.

Ron tried his best to make himself look presentable, which normally he wasn't that great at. Now that he could actually buy some clothes instead of wearing hand-me-downs, he had a better chance at looking more handsome than he had before. He stopped by a flower shoppe and got Hermione some flowers and finally apparated to her flat, knocking on the door and waiting for her to come to the door with one hand shoved into his jean pocket. He was a bit nervous now, which was stupid because he'd known Hermione for twelve years now and it wasn't like this was their first date, but every time they did this it always felt like it was the first time to him for some reason.

Hermione was just checking her hair in the mirror when the knock came. She wasn't the kind who usually worried about how she looked, but she hadn't been on a date with Ron in a while, and she wanted him to think she looked nice, so it was worth putting in a little extra effort. She'd tried to find one of her nicer outfits to wear for this outing.

She hurried over to the door and pulled it open, smiling broadly at him and immediately thinking he looked wonderful. "Hi," she said a bit breathlessly, stepping forward to give him a quick kiss before going back in to grab her infamous bag and hurried back to the door again. "So where are we going?" she asked, locking her door behind them.

Ron looked her over for a moment, a bit taken aback by how beautiful she was. It wasn't like she hadn't always been beautiful, but Hermione had always been the type of girl who didn't put a lot of stock into appearances (which Ron was completely fine with) throughout their school years so when she did it was hard for anyone not to take notice of her. Of course Ron had taken notice of her anyway, long before she ever dressed up for anything at school, but it was still a fact.

"Hermione," Ron said when she came back to the door, "you look...beautiful." He smiled crookedly at her then handed her the flowers. "Oh, I got these for you. Er, is there anywhere that you prefer to eat?"

She blushed openly, stopping to put the flowers in a vase before running out. "Thank you," she said with a smile. "These are lovely," she bent to sniff them before they left, and when they were walking down the hall, she took his hand, smiling at him. "You look quite handsome yourself," she said.

Once outside she started to think of places they could go to eat. There weren't too many options in Diagon Ally, or in Hogsmede, but there were lots of little bistros around muggle London. "Would you be willing to try a muggle restaurant? I know of a few good ones within a few blocks of here."

	Ron felt his face turn red. "Er thanks, 'Mione." He squeezed her hand. "Yeah, sure, whatever you'd like. Just lead the way." He didn't often go to many places in muggle London, but he knew Hermione would be able to get them around easy enough. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

She kind of liked making him blush, it made her smile, and the squeeze to the hand made her feel safe and happy.

"There's this great little Italian Birstro around the corner, I haven't gone there in a while, I think the last time was when my parents were in town last, but it's very good. I think you'll like it." She lead the way around the streets of muggle London. Even though she could have gotten a place in Diagon Ally or Hogsmede, she kind of liked living in muggle London. When they reached the place, they headed in and Hermione got them a table.

Ron nodded to her. "Sounds great. I'm sure it'll be brilliant." Truthfully he didn't really care where they went so he was more than happy to let Hermione choose so long as she was there with him that was really all that mattered.

This night was more of an excuse for him to be with her and make sure that she was okay than anything else. He knew that she could watch out for herself, but sometimes he just needed the confirmation. And now that she was going to be transferring to a more dangerous position, he needed to be around that much more because who knew when things could take a turn for the worse?

When they'd been seated and were looking over the menu, he asked, "What do you like to eat here?" He was trying his hardest not to talk about or think on recent events, but it was difficult not to when it was generally where his mind went almost constantly.

Hermione glanced over the menu before making a recommendation for him. "My dad said the lasagna here is good, I'm getting the linguini and shrimp, it's quite delicious." she knew he was going to be more worried about her now that she was moving to a more dangerous department, and she appreciated him worrying about her, but at the same time she didn't want to give him reason to worry. She hated when he was anything other than happy, which was difficult at this particular time, she knew, but she wasn't going to stop trying either. She was glad that they at least seemed to be on again, that was a good start.

Hermione placed her order when the waiter came back, and ordered a glass of wine as well. When it came she took a sip and leaned forward. "I'm glad you asked me out tonight," Hermione said, smiling. "I miss spending time with you. It's been too long since we did something just with us."
