Characters: Jayne Dough/Pandora & Marietta Edgecombe
Setting: Ministry of Magic, 7 November 2003, 11:46am after Isaiah Smith's funeral
Rating: General Public
Summary: It's time for Marietta to be put on Pandora's radar.

Although her plan to win the bet with Zacharias with his sister's faux kidnapping backfired most unpleasantly, she did not expect that such an unexpected surprise would present itself that very same morning and allow her to plant a seed of unpleasantness in Zacharias' brain all the same. If she couldn't win the bet, she could at least unwind him in some other way, and that made her feel as though she had won in some other way at least. Despite his attempts to make her angry, it was basically impossible for she was feeling elated at this point and the funeral which she had not been looking forward to was not quite so unpleasant seeing the look of discomfort on his face when he saw her. She was not quite sure yet how she would continue with this, but she was looking forward to seeing how it panned out.

Marietta made her way off of the Ministry lifts, delivering an important piece of information to another department from her own. Normally she would have an intern do it but this was not something that could be lost and she'd scared them all so much that they basically mucked up everything that she assigned to them now which only gave her more chances to call them incompetent and idiotic. It really did make her days more enjoyable. Marietta did not have a lot of contact with the people in the Department of Mysteries, but every now and again she had to work with them on something or another and today her mother required that she liaise with them on a project that was causing some trouble in the Floo Network that they were hoping the Department could help solve for them.

She was looking for the administrative research assistant. Marietta wasn't sure if she remembered the woman's name or not; she'd only met her the one time and they barely exchanged a few words a the time. Though she had not had any nightmares the night before, Marietta was still feeling quite exhausted from the lack of sleep the week had presented her with and despite not having the nightmare, she had still dreamed of the red headed woman and thrown up that morning anyway so she was still quite pallid looking when she finally reached Jayne's office.

The girl's cruel words nearly made Jayne shrink back into her familiar shell, but the comforting presence of Pandora soothed her into calmness. She remained unmoving as the girl stood up and made even more horrendous remarks about the assistants in her department. Jayne decided she would have to look them up.

Good, I hope she goes now.

"What? You can't simply let her leave without rightly putting her in her place. She has no idea that with a single word she could be dead right now."

But what do I say to that?

"Just let me speak..."

A light sprang to Jayne's eyes, a spark that had not been there a moment before, as Pandora took control.

"Someone so visibly marked for their betrayal of others should not toss around the word 'moronic'. In the end, you are just as mortal as any of those you malign. With so many witches and wizards falling dead, and the culprit yet to be caught, I would be more careful with my words." This time, her smile was more genuine, yet more cruel and sinister.

Marietta was going to turn to leave, but no, the woman decided to speak again. Not only that, she dared to threaten her. Marietta dealt with people making rude comments at her, but she would not allow someone to outright threaten her without a rebuke.

"I did what no one else had the bollocks to do to get ahead. I bear the penalty of that decision, but I do not regret it, nor do I see any of the other Dumbledore's Army ignoramuses making strides like I am in this Ministry. I don't consider anything beneath my station so long as it will get me results and you might do well to remember that the next time you consider threatening me, Dough.

"These scars show that there is very little that I won't do to get ahead and I do not take kindly to threats on my life from anyone, least of all from the likes of you."

"Oh my dear, that wasn't a threat," she said with exaggerated sweetness. "If I had told you that I would slit your throat if you uttered one more word, now that would be a threat. I simply offered you a piece of valuable advice."

She picked up her quill and began writing, as if the child were no longer there.

"Please remember to close the door on your way out, child."

It seemed like this bint had turned into a completely different person. There was growing a pair and then there was...well this. Marietta glared openly at her as she spoke, disbelief written across her face. It was certainly not commonplace for people to make death threats so openly within the Ministry walls and usually Marietta didn't let herself get this worked up but then she wasn't normally in this sort of situation either.

"You can stuff your advice, bint. If you ever try to threaten me you will most sorely regret it." Marietta slammed the door shut behind her when she left.

"Trust me, I'm not the one who will be doing the regretting."

She could feel the thrum of power in her limbs. Jayne didn't recognize it, but knew it nevertheless, as it had been growing more and more ever since she had first put on the mask and been possessed by Pandora. Her hand was lifted and brought up to her face, and it wasn't her imagination - there were traces of strong magic all around her fingers.

"Oh, it's been so long," Pandora spoke again through Jayne's lips. "But I feel it again. Not quite strong enough yet, but still enough to teach a lesson."

More words were spoken as her finger pointed at the door, and Jayne was awed by the use of wand-less magic. Wizards needed wands to focus their magic, but this... this took a power and focus that were far beyond her.

What did you do?

"Nothing she hasn't experienced already..."

For the next time Marietta looked into the mirror, she would see a new word carved into her forehead, but this time looking as if it had been slashed in. Just a single, meaningful word.

Bint.
