Whizbang! [OPEN]
Who: Seamus and OPEN.
What: Getting some explosives fireworks for Guy Fawkes.
When: November 5th, around 10AM.
Where: Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, Diagon Alley
Rating: PG for language. It's Seamus.

Seamus had two hours before he needed to get to the Leaky to make up one of the shifts he'd missed over the last week. It was the first time he'd really been out of the house besides for work or the funeral, and it felt a little odd still. But he figured if he was going to try to resume some semblance of normalcy, tonight's festivities would be the best way.

So he was off to find the best fireworks he possibly could, and there was no better place to start than Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. After finishing of his cigarette - he'd been smoking a lot more lately - Seamus headed inside. He hoped they weren't out of Whiz-bangs already.

"As a matter of fact, I do believe George secretly considers it his favourite hobby to drive me insane."

His organization of the boxes stopped mid-motion, however, as he heard something that made him stiffen in umbrage.

"My bloke? And why, in Merlin's name, would you assume that I have a bloke?" He dropped whatever boxes were in his hands as they balled up and descended to his sides. "Why does everyone assume that simply because I am not a quidditch player, or because I am capable of having a meaningful conversation about politics, that it means I'm one of those?!"

A modicum of reality broke through his personal outrage, reminding him of partly-overheard conversations about friends and acquaintances and Oh my bloody hell, he's one of them, isn't he.

"...Not that there's anything necessarily wrong about being... different, other than that simply is not who I am."

He cleared his throat and absently brushed some non-existent lint from his robes. "Pardon me while I, ah, find my way out."

The second he saw he'd made the wrong assumption, Seamus opened his mouth to apologize. Until Percy said what he did.

Seamus's face went stony as his arms slowly came down to his sides. Percy was several inches taller than Seamus, but that didn't stop Seamus from invading his space to glare up at him. "One of 'those'? One of what exactly?" Whatever Percy said, he better pick his words very carefully.

Inside, Percy was screaming a combination of Don't kill me and For Merlin's sake, don't touch me! Outwardly, however, he pulled himself up to his full height and mustered up as much dignity as he could.

"A... stereotype," he finally said after a scramble for words that would not get him killed. "As if I were not a person, but something that could be assumed because of the way I look or act. In fact," he added, on too much of a roll for his own good, "you did it as well, made judgements about my orientation based on no knowledge or facts whatsoever, simply looked at me and presumed you knew who I spent my time with."

He harrumphed and began walking around Seamus with his head held high. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting to attend."

"Aye, I might have made assumptions about you," Seamus grit out, blocking Percy's way with s sidestep. "But I'm not the one who sounded so disgusted by the idea. And you have no idea what I was basing my assumption off of. Unless you're somehow a mind-reader now."

The look Seamus leveled Percy was rife with disgust and barely contained anger. And maybe just a touch of disappointment. "Y'know, I used to feel sorry for you, but now I get it. Nobody likes a sanctimonious wanker, not even family. I hope George really is taking the piss at your expense. Can't think of anyone who deserves it more."

He'd have laced into Percy properly, but he wasn't going to do that in the middle of George's shop, and certainly not with so many brats around.

Before, he had simply been outraged, but now, it was his pride that was being impugned. Like so many Weasleys, his pride was his weakest link - after all, wasn't it pride that led to the fight with his father oh so many years ago?

His eyes narrowed, shoulders squared as if readying for a fight, and he looked down upon the much shorter wizard. "I don't need anyone's pity, let alone yours. Save your sorry feelings for those that need them. Now, will you let me pass, or will I have to exit through you?"

Seamus scoffed at Percy's question, not at all intimidated by the older wizard's height. Through him? "You could try, but you wouldn't get very far, boyo. And don't worry, I don't pity you. Not surprised you missed the 'used to' what with your head stuck so far up your arse." If Percy wanted to leave, Seamus wasn't going to stop him, but he sure as hell wasn't going to step aside for him, either. Seamus didn't respect him enough to do so.

Used to, currently did, it didn't change Percy's statement in any way. He wanted no pity from anyone. But this wand-waggler wasn't moving out of his way. While Percy could hold his own in a verbal spar, he had no wish to enter into a physical confrontation, though he could if he needed to - he had the scars from the Battle to show for it.

But how could he go and save face? And if this did turn physical - he shuddered in disgust - the idiot would likely enjoy it too much. He had to do something, though. He couldn't simply stand there all day.

At the end, it was the reminder that he had work to do that pushed him forward. He side-stepped his brother's friend, making certain not to touch him, and with a final glare, made his way out of the store.
