ARROWS DOMINATE, KESTRALS STEAL VICTORY
Article By: Belinda Dunstan

Appleby Arrows [310*] vs Chudley Cannons [40]
Falmouth Falcons [50] vs Kenmare Kestrals [180*]
Wimbourne Wasps [270*] vs Ballycastle Bats [60]
Pride of Portree [180] vs Caerphilly Catapults [230*]

The opening week of the United Kingdom Quidditch League opened with four incredibly exciting games. There were blow outs and surprise victories, as well as stellar performances by rookie players.

The opening match of the season was held in Applebee, Lincolnshire, England. The fanfare began with an aerial display by the Arrows, accompanied by fireworks and music. The Arrows faced off against the Chudley Cannons. The Cannons started off with an early lead, due entirely to their rookie Chaser Freemont. Freemont scored the only three goals for the Cannons before suffering an injury through a bludger to the head. The Arrows then took over, scoring sixteen goals before catching the snitch.

The Falmouth Falcons hosted the Kenmare Kestrals in Cornwall on Saturday night. The game was evenly matched for the first hour of the game, with the Falcons taking a slight lead. The game ended when the Kestrals’ seeker dove from his broom to catch the snitch before the Falcon’s seeker could catch it.

The first Sunday game was between the Wimbourne Wasps and the Ballycastle Bats in Wimbourne. The teams scored at an even pace until the Ballycastle keeper was struck by a bludger. The Bats were forced to lose a chaser to protect their goal, effectively losing the match.

Sunday night’s game took place on the Isle of the Skye, home of the Pride of Portree. They faced off against the Caerphilly Catapults. Early speculation said that Portree would dominate against the Catapults, and the game looked to be going that way. However, Portree had a hundred point lead against the Catapults when the snitch was caught in a surprising move by Caerphilly.

On May 16th the Montrose Magpies host the Wigtown Wanderers and the Cromarty Crakes host the Holyhead Harpies. May 17th’s only game is Puddlemere United at home against Tutshill Tornadoes.
