Work was really starting to stress him out. That was unfair. Work always stressed him out. But he was feeling it a bit more, around the edges, lately. He needed a vaction, a real vacation. Not the quick trip to Italy he'd taken, the weekend of Easter. That had been business, of sorts, and far from relaxing. He wasn't even sure he remembered how to relax, if he'd ever known at all.

Sitting in a comfy chair in the back corner of a book shop was generally a good start. he had a steaming cup of coffee, and a book about wolves, to help his mission. He probably wasn't really doing much for relaxation, but he was away from the office (although he had his cell phone at his hip, set to vibrate if he got a call, or an email), and he had coffee and books. All he needed was...well, he didn't really know. He really didn't know what he'd need, to relax. A little time to himself, maybe the roar of the ocean on the beach, or the solitude of a cabin in the mountains. He really didn't know, but he knew that was sad.

He'd take what he could get, for the moment, which was a book shop and a hot cup of coffee. Everything else would either fall in to place, of go to hell in a handbasket. Experience had him tense and prepared for the latter.

Parker P Whitley enjoyed his job, most of the time. He liked doing the research, if nothing else. He didn't enjoy the other aspects so much, but he likened it to a rock star on tour. Hated the travel, the press junkets, the lack of sleep, but lived for that two or three hours on stage, fans screaming, singing along. Research wasn't quite as exciting as performing a sold out concert at Wembly Stadium, but it was his high.

Talking on the phone and making copies and sitting in boring meetings, those were his travel and press junkets, the annoyances he had to endure. Unlike a rock star, he could get someone else to do the tedious crap for him. That was the point of his recent email. He was slightly offended only one person had answered his cry for help, and he could only hope she proved worthy enough to handle the job, since it was her, or nothing. Well, all he could do was wait for her to show up.
