Who: Rue Murray and Jen Hill
What: During the take-down, Rue gets her just desserts.
Where: CORE HQ
When: Around 11:00 PM, Friday April 2nd
Warning: Character death.
Rue was in one of the labs, tending to a Venus flytrap she'd been raising for the past few weeks, when the gunfire started. Idly, she raised an eyebrow, stood up straight, and looked over her shoulder towards the door. The one day she had to come into work, huh? Well, whatever. If Camelot was retaliating for their dead leader, then no doubt this was totally half-cocked. He'd only died yesterday. How prepared could they be?
Annoyed, she sighed and gave her little flytrap a pet, just below its teeth. "Hold tight, baby. I'll be back tomorrow." With that, she grabbed her purse and headed towards the exit calmly. If she was lucky, she'd be able to sneak past whoever was playing Cowboys & Indians in the lobby with relative ease. All she had to was get out the door. Shouldn't have been too hard.
Jen had only been in the fray for fifteen, maybe twenty minutes at best, but it'd seemed like longer. She'd never been in the thick of a real fight before and it was more than a little over whelming, but she'd been doing her best. When she wasn't knocking people out and detaining them, she'd been helping Krystelle with the injured. She'd already had to fly one seriously hurt person to safety and that was just... more than a little upsetting. She wanted this to be over already, and for everyone to come out of it unharmed, especially her friends. Her thoughts fleetingly went to Josh, so grateful that he had stayed out of this part completely.
She had just finished hauling someone else off to joint the rest of the arrestees when she saw a familiar figure come out of one of the doors towards the end of the hallway and her eyes narrowed. Rue. Clark was telling her not to engage, to just let it go, but Jen couldn't. She didn't want Rue dead, she just wanted her behind bars, where she belonged. And she wasn't worried about trying to fight her this time, there's no way she could be prepared for Jen like she had been before, could she? Her blood boiled, and she stepped forward into view of the other woman.
Rue's eyebrow practically skyrocketed when she saw all the chaos going on. Boy, had she underestimated those Camelot fuckers. They hadn't been there that long, had they? And yet they were already winning? Damn. This was not looking good. She scanned the lobby quickly, trying to see if there was any feasible way she could make it out, but to no avail. She'd just have to find another way out.
And then she saw Jen. Pretty little Jen. Internally, she felt a wave of panic wash over her, but externally, she just tilted her head to the side and gave her a smug smile. "What is this, revenge of the nerds?" she quipped, with much more confidence than she was actually feeling. Suddenly finding a way out of here was looking much more unlikely.
"More like the justice league plus the whole of Camelot coming here to rain down on your sorry asses," Jen shot back at her, continuing to walk forward with what could only be described as steely resolve. Her back was straight and her hands were clenched at her sides as she came to a stop ten feet from Rue and sighed, trying not to look as pleased with this as she actually was.
"As much as it pains me to do this, Rue, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to arrest you. None of you are getting out of here except in a pair of handcuffs." Jen stared at her evenly, while inside her stomach was jumping around like mad. What if Rue resisted? What could she do? They'd have to fight, and Jen still wasn't all that in control of her strength, which is why she'd only been engaging in the fight long enough to punch people out. Any prolonged fighting, and Jen was actually afraid she might accidentally kill someone. As much as she hated Rue, that's not something she wished for the plant-loving bitch.
"Oh, nerds with guns. How terrifying," she snapped scathingly. Her reaction was much more telling than she wanted it to be, though. She only snapped when she was scared or didn't know what to do, and both of those definitely applied right now. Jen was actually scaring her a little right now. Well, more than a little. She had done terrible things to the girl; it only made sense that she'd want revenge. A fucked-up superhero's version of revenge, but whatever. Honestly, she would've been happier if Jen just killed her and got it over with. Going to jail was not something on her to-do list.
"Well. As lovely as that sounds, sweetie, think I'm gonna have to pass." She gave Jen one last cynical look, and then she fucking booked it. She ran as fast as her small frame would allow, heading blindly down the halls, looking for an exit. She didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of running away from Superman, but hey, it was worth a try, right?
Jen rolled her eyes, of course she'd try to run, but she had to know how easily Jen could catch up to her right? They were both running now at top speed, though Jen's top speed was decidedly much faster than Rue's. They were weaving through crowds of people now, the place had dissolved into utter madness at this point, everyone was out in the halls fighting each other. Killing each other. Jen tried her hardest not to pay attention to it and focused on the task at hand, and that was getting Rue in handcuffs. Then they turned a sharp corner and they were temporarily alone again, and that's when Jen caught up to her. In a new burst of speed Jen found herself at Rue's elbow and she grabbed onto it, lurching the other woman around into a very sudden stop. "It's no use, Rue! There's no way out."
There was no hiding it anymore - by the time they rounded that corner, Rue was all-out panicking. She really was cornered, in every way possible. She tried to free herself from Jen's grip, but it was useless, there was no way she'd let her go. Rue's eyes flashed with fury as she struggled, and in her desperation, she found the one and only out at hand. A door to the basement stairs. Well, it was better than nothing.
"That's what you think," Rue snarled, and with every ounce of strength she possessed, she flung herself against the door, pulling Jen with her, and fell down the stairwell. The falling was painful, but by the time she was at the bottom of the stairs, she felt nothing. She wouldn't be feeling anything anymore.
Jen hadn't fully registered what had happened on the way down, part of her knew they were falling down the stairs and the other part of her was stuck in some very weird limbo that wasn't even sure this entire day had been real. Was she really falling down the stairs, having been forced down them by her enemy. What would happen when they finally reached the bottom, was she about to die? Thoughts went to her friends, her foster parents, everyone that she loved, and then the falling had stopped and Jen was still breathing, miraculously.
With a groan, she attempted to raise herself from her sprawled out position at the foot of a landing, breathing hard and wincing as she felt a cut on her forehead and the beginnings of a very large bump. Fuck, that hurt. For being the woman of steel, Jen could actually be a bit of a baby when it came to pain. Hm. After a few more minutes she managed to raise herself into a sitting position, shaking as she did so and realizing that she hadn't heard a word from Rue since they'd landed, and she was lying not too far from Jen.
"Rue?" Jen drew in a breath and forced herself to move closer to her, peering at her with hesitance as she saw the weird angle in which her neck appeared to be where she was lying on the ground. When she finally got around to view the front of her, she had to fight back a wave of nausea at the sight of Rue's eyes wide open. This was not what Jen had wanted. Sitting back on her heels, Jen let out a quiet sob and spoke into her comm. "Guys? Ted? Lilah? Anyone? Someone come help me, I have somebody at the bottom of the stairs here."
