Who: Arcturus Black and Lucifer Morningstar
What: Curiosity and a disregard for the rules
When: Thursday evening
Where: Decadence
There were few things that would tempt Arcturus Black to visit Ravenmoore, and even fewer that would convince him to visit what he saw as the modern muggle version of a pub. One of those things, however, was being told that he was forbidden to do it, and being told so by muggles. Arcturus had been raised a dutiful, obedient child, to the point where by the standards of most in Preya, one might say that he had too much respect for his elders. Had his father, or even someone like Lucius Malfoy, told him to stay away from such places, he never would have questioned it.
But Arcturus Black did not take orders from muggles. Therefore, when he was told that he was too young to visit this club, and further, that it was very expensive and exclusive, it seemed a personal insult. Any muggle establishment – and that is just what he assumed it was, having no knowledge of the ownership – ought to feel honoured to have a member of his family visit, and it wasn't as if he was an infant who had never visited a pub before. He wouldn't be allowed membership of the private club his father belonged to until he was seventeen, but that was quite different, to his mind. Muggles had no right to turn him away.
It was a problem easily solved. He arrived at the club dressed in one of his best suits, with a new waistcoat and a cleverly-tied cravat. His wallet was full of perfect-looking slips of muggle money, fifty dollars apiece. Most importantly of all, he had cast an illusory spell over himself. To the muggle eye – and even to the eye of any wizard who didn't look too closely or notice the magic – he appeared to be a man in his mid-twenties, at least a decade older than the fourteen years he had actually lived.
It worked. He didn't have any trouble at all getting into the place – but what Arcturus saw once he was inside was something of a shock. He might have expected the crowding, or the terrible muggle music – but the way some of them were dancing, touching each other, and the way they were dressed? The young wizard had a moment of panic. This wasn't like a pub at all, more like some muggle house of ill repute! Arcturus couldn't even imagine what the family would do if they knew that he was here. Even soft-hearted Narcissa and Cassiopeia would be furious, he was certain.
He turned to leave, pushing past others as he did so.
