In exchange for a hummer and Kieran's last bit of grass, the trucker had taken him out of Philly and down the highway halfway towards his destination.

"Where you heading, boy?" the trucker had asked when he'd picked the hitchhiker up in Penn Station. Going home, the Adam voice had whispered. "Nowhere, in particular," Kieran had replied. And it was true. He didn't mind all that much about the hummer, but he'd hated to part with his last joint.

When he'd walked down the road towards Normalville, he'd been craving that joint, twitching his fingers and wishing hard that he'd had the willpower to say no. But he'd been tired, and really needed that ride. And the trucker'd even been nice enough to buy him dinner at a greasy burger joint along the way. The burger was sitting heavy in his stomach as he walked - but he was fine, really, until the bright flash lit the sky. He'd hit the dirt then, shaking all over, and promptly vomited up the hamburger and all the rest of the contents of his stomach upon standing.

"Fuck," he said, and staggered to his feet. He felt lightheaded and his palms were sweaty. "That asshole gave me food poisoning."

Between the vomiting and the weakness, it took Kieran several hours to reach town. He paused at the sign, thinking about the last time he'd passed the 'Welcome to Normalville' . He wondered if when he'd left, when Adam had left - a scared, sniveling boy of thirteen - if they'd sent someone out to repaint the hand painted population portion of the sign. He was still thinking about it when he heaved once more. A brief thought hit him - he wondered how he could possibly have anything left to vomit - a few seconds before he collapsed entirely down into the dirt, legs too weak to carry him further.

Welcome home, the Adam voice taunted.

"Shut up," he muttered to himself, figuring he'd just stay right there a while until he regained the will to move.

When Mac decided to visit, Simon was excited to introduce him to Mim. Unfortunately, due to work and other factors, they had put off the meeting, and now that the bombs had gone off, everything was different. A few days into waiting to hear from the search party, Simon dropped by the town hall where Mim was trying to keep herself busy and suggested that meeting, since Mac was still in town and chomping at the bit for something to do.

So here they were, at the Normal Bar, Mac's new place of interest. The bartender was nowhere to be found, so Simon sat at the bar, watching Mac take over behind the bar and fixing them both drinks.
