RP: Tim, Savannah, Others?
Who: Tim, Savannah, Others?
Where: the yard
When: July 29, 2011
Summary: It's about to rain

The day had been hot and humid. The news said that it would rain at 7:00pm. Savannah didn't pay a lot of attention to the weather reports, but around 6:45 the sun suddenly disappeared and she could hear thunder. She left her food on the plate and ran upstairs, while calling Tim. "Hey, you, it's about to rain. A storm," she said all excited. "Bathing suit, yard, and if you're there after the rain start you lose." There was no question that she would be there. She wouldn't lose.

She changed quickly and ran back downstairs and through the house so she could leave from the back door. She left the phone on the kitchen counter and ran outside just as Tim was coming out. She raised her arms. "Still nothing, but I think it'll pour in a bit. Look how dark the sky is all of a sudden. We had that at home. First the sun, then the rain, and suddenly the sun again."

Tim had been in a good mood for most of the day, the afternoon spent with Savannah the day before had gone a long way toward lifting his spirits, so much that he didn't even mind working and all of that as much as he normally did during the rest of the day. And with her assurances that they'd keep doing things like that just to remember that they were normal Tim had been ready to go a few more days without something like that again, but then she called.

And Tim had his trunks on and was out to meet Savannah in the yard just like he had before. Tim nodded as he tipped his head back up toward the sky, holding a hand just over his eyes as he did. "Yeah it's gonna be good." Tim agreed, he'd done this a lot with Billy when he'd been younger - maybe not always with a suit on, but that itch to get outside right before it rained and just wait for it. Yeah he was no stranger to this.

"You can feel it in the air, it's gonna go here in just a minute." Tim decided. It might not feel exactly the same at home when the moisture slowly seeped into the air around you, and you could feel it warming up the world in the moments right before the rain came, but it was as close as he was gonna get here.

"We're going to get drenched," she said with a lot more enthusiasm that the statement should warrant, but she hadn't done something as simple as that in too long and she missed the craziness of Cheertown. She couldn't have her friends here, but she had Tim who knew how to have fun.

"Yes, although it feels more like Florida than home, with all the humidity." She took a deep breath. "You can smell the salt, can't you? From the ocean." She was all excited for rain. How had life become so complicated that simple rain made her happy?

"Ohhh, I felt it- A few drops," she said, laughing. "Another. You'd better get ready, although you know how to get wet so well. You'll have no problem today."

"It's almost like Galveston, just with more buildings." He had all ready decided that was the best comparison he could make, Houston would be better for the city, but Galveston was right on the water and they got that sea air and that sticky heat they had here.

"Yeah," That was something he was still getting used to - the ocean right there, the smell of it. It was a simple thing in the grand scheme of things and yet for Tim it was a big adjustment.

"Ah felt one." Tim laughed tipping his head back again. "Yes, and you're not so bad at that yourself." He reminded Savannah, they'd both been completely soaked the day before, at least he'd forgone jeans and shoes today knowing before hand they were going to get wet. "Just wait," It was coming, just a few drops to start and then the skies would open.

"Almost. I've been to Galveston," she said, smiling even brighter, because that was just another connection, and it was probably stupid considering that they were amongst many Texans who'd visited Galveston, but it felt right.

"Do you object to salt in the air?" she asked, laughing. "We can write the President and tell them we want a base away from the ocean."

She bowed. "Thank you. I am the winner of that game, in case you forgot," she said, laughing. She went around and stood in front of him, hands on his shoulders. She screamed as she the drops got bigger and faster, and suddenly it wasn't just raining, but pouring. There was thunder and lightning, and it felt so good to be out there, as the water fell all over her hair and down her body. "It's perfect."

"Not surprised to hear it, cheerleader - they got the best beaches in the state after all." Oh sure more people went to Corpus Cristi but that was just because it was bigger - the beaches were better by far in Galveston.

And this reminded him of that even more now, being right there on the sea wall, you could smell the ocean and feel the clouds rolling in. "It's just strange, you only ever have salt in the air by the water. Dillon's not really close to the water." He chuckled. "I think I'll live if we stay here."

"Like you'd ever let me forget it." Tim laughed when Savannah reminded him of their battle the day before. And then it started, not just the teasing first few drops but just absolutely pouring down on them as the stood there under the rain shouting at the sky together. It was perfect, if he closed his eyes it was almost like being home.

"Without all the tourists." Okay so there were tourists, but not as much as Corpus Cristi. "I haven't been back the last few summers."

"Really? Shocking. Living in Memphis, I would not know that there is no salt without the water," she said, giggling. "We're a lot farther from the water than you are."

The water had them covered, when she heard the door of the kitchen bang open and then Sam was there, with his gun pointed, checking out the yard. "You okay?"

Savannah nodded, confused. "Yeah, we're fine. Look, it's raining," she said, grinning.

Sam's expression didn't change. "I noticed. Why were you screaming?"

It finally dawned on her why Sam was there, still staring and with his gun out. "Because it started to rain and it's cold," she said, laughing. "Come on, put that away and join us."

Sam snorted, but he put the gun away. "I think I'll pass." He went back inside, shaking his head.

Savannah looked at Tim for a moment and then grinned. "We scared him. They aren't used to normal."

"It's been a while since I've gone too - the last time I was at the water, it was in Mexico with my friend Jason." All the memories of that trip rushing back only to have Tim push them out of the way just as quickly. "It was fun, but I like Galveston more."

He laughed whens he teased him about the distance they lived from the water. "Yeah well we're drier so it's stranger for me." Tim insisted with a laugh just as the kitchen door swung open catching his attention, most notably on the gun. But Savannah didn't seem worried, more confused than anything really.

"He came running out here with a gun because we scared him..." Tim said slowly tying to understand what about what they were doing required someone to bring a gun. "They're really not used to normal. And you live with those guys?" Tim shook his head.

"Who's Jason? Let me guess, another football player." It wasn't hard to guess, because if they were good players, then they stuck together. It was one of those laws of nature that applied to football.

"New York is plenty strange for me, too, Mister," she said, rolling her eyes at him, but it was all good fun.

Savannah laughed when Tim commented on Sam's arrival. "No, he came out with a gun because I screamed, and something could be happening. The gun... I think that's just how they move, gun in hand," she said with a shrug. "Something might happen, you take the gun out and see what's going on." She grinned and nodded. "I do live with them, and I'm used to their insanity, which they think it's normal, even if it's abnormal, and I remind them what's really normal. They're my family," she said with a softer tone. "Insane, but mine."

She shook her head. "Enough of that. We're here to have fun and do normal things. Catch me," she said, before running away.

"He's - he's my best and oldest friend." Tim said with a small smile. "We've been friends since we were kids, played together for years." He didn't talk about what happened to Jason, he was always going to be a Panther, just like Tim was, and that didn't change because Jason couldn't walk and it didn't change because Jason had moved to New York.

"Still you're more used to a city than I am." He teased her with a laugh.

That was never going to be him, the default getting a gun and running into a situation with it raised. He was never going to be like that. "Maybe I'll just leave that see what's going on with a gun sort of stuff to those guys." He'd carry the gun, might even use it if he really needed to, but having it out like that wasn't going to work for him.

But Savannah was right, they came out here to have fun, not to talk about his friends or these strange people she'd turned into a family. He laughed and shouted again as he set off after her chasing her through the rain and the yard arms out reached just like he had the day before, zigging and zagging right behind her shouting his laughter in their wake.

"I guess that I'll have to meet Jason too when we go back." If he put a smile on Tim's face, then he was important and then she would meet him.

"That's true. Memphis isn't exactly as big as New York, but yes, it's not a small town in West Texas." This New York was something else, though, because they were prisoners here.

"I've done it, too. It's just easier to do what they expect you to do than argue. We had a situation when we were up in the mountains, the moment we woke up, I had clothes and gun at hand, and that was before classes and before anything else," she said, knowing how much she had changed despite wanting to stay the same.

She decided to let it go and just run, it was so much easier. First she just ran, but then she turned around, staring at him, and she knew that she put herself at a disadvantage. He was used to running sideways, reading the signs to know where the opponent was going to go, but again, it made no difference. They were running and it was raining. The thunder was loud and they were laughing. And there was still no one joining them.

"He's - he's actually here in New York." Tim said with a smile when Savannah said that she wanted to meet Jason. "Think you could put up with this place for a while when we get back?" He asked her with a grin.

"At least I win this." He chuckled - it wasn't the same thing of course, being here in New York in this place. It wasn't just comparing city sizes, it was being in a place that wasn't home and would never feel like home for either of them.

Tim just shook his head when she told him about what she'd done too. He couldn't imagine doing that himself, but it wasn't important now, they could talk about how messed up this place was later, not today.

After she turned around to watch him Tim caught her easily, this time dropping his shoulder and catching her around the middle and lifting her up on his shoulder and spinning them both around in the rain. "You make it too easy." He laughed.

Savannah nodded. "For a friend of yours, of course I can put up with New York for a while longer. Besides, it's not the same thing. We wouldn't be... it's not like here."

She nodded. "You totally win this one, although really it's your town that wins, not you, but I can be nice and let you think that you win this," she joked.

Before she could say anything, he tackled her and picked her up. Savannah kicked, even though she knew that she wouldn't accomplish anything in this position. If she stopped laughing, she might actually think of a way out of this, but it took too much work and standing upside down wasn't so unusual for her. The rain was covering them and the smell of the ocean was getting thicker. It was perfect, but she couldn't let Tim get away with it so easily. "I don't want to bruise your ego," she said, laughing. "I'm pretty sure this is an illegal move."

"No it's not like here." Tim could agree with that sentiment, being home and being in New York wasn't the same as being here and being in New York - they could actually go home when they finished there, they were just stuck here.

"Hey don't take my victory from me, I let you have yesterday - give me this." Tim said as Savannah teased him. Tim liked winning, maybe not as much as Savannah seemed to - but he was a fan of it.

Still spinning Tim laughed with Savannah. "My ego is doin' just fine, don't you worry about that." He assured her. "If we were playin' football this would be an illegal move, but since we're not and there's no refs around I think this is what we call fair play." Tim grinned pushing Savannah over his shoulder just a bit more so he could hook his arm in the bend of her knees, even with the rain he was confident he wouldn't drop her - though he wasn't spinning quite so much now with Savannah dangling over his shoulder.

"Oh sure, you're the absolute winner for the day. We can have another contest tomorrow," she said, chuckling. It was looking like they had plenty of competitions in front of them, just to make things normal.

Savannah smacked his ass. "That is a foul, Mr. Captain, and you're coming up with excuses now." She grabbed onto his legs when she felt her body weight shift, but then he was holding her and he had a solid grip. It was easy for her to tighten her muscles and suddenly stand straight, hands straight above her head for balance. "If you can grab my ankles and push me over your head, I'll show you how to toss me in the air and catch me, but cross your hands with my ankles, so I can turn around and face the same as you. Think you're strong enough to pull me up?"

"That's right," Tim said puffing up his chest and grinning when Savannah assured him he was the winner of the day. "We can go again tomorrow and I'll beat you again." He agreed, he could get used to that, some new competition cooked up between the two of them every day.

"I think what you're doing is called a foul," Tim laughed, stopping all together when instead of just hanging over his shoulder the way he'd intended Savannah managed to stand up. "You want me to hold you over my head in the rain?" Tim asked her looking up at her raising an eyebrow at her - it was more to just make sure he knew what she was asking than anything else really.

"Yeah I think I can manage it." She wasn't that heavy after all, and with all the training they'd been doing Tim was in better shape now than he'd even been while he was playing football. It took just a little finagling to get it right, but Tim actually managed to have Savannah turned around and up over his head without even feeling like he was going to drop her. Now if she started suggesting he should do it with one hand then they might have trouble, but otherwise he could do this - rain or not. "Now what?"

"You're not going to win," she said, but then talking wasn't an issue, because Tim was picking her up and finally someone was letting her stunt even if it was not optimal or even safe, but she could deal with pain.

"Okay, first let's try something easy. Get your arms closer and then you let go of one ankle. You can put your hand under my foot. I'm going to go into a scorpion. That means I grab my foot behind me and push it over my head," she explained. "After that, I let go and extend my leg backwards, balance and finally we come back to this positions. After that, you push me into the air and let go. I spin and come down parallel to the ground and you catch me," she said. "When I spin, I'm blind. I'm good at staying in the same line, but you might have to move a little to have a firm grip."

"That's what you think, cheerleader." Tim laughed. Though when he started actually lifting Savannah he ended up focusing more on that and less on wither or not winning was something that was going to happen in the upcoming days.

"You do know I'm not a cheerleader right? I've spent more time with cheerleaders under me than over." He reminded her, he didn't feel like he was fixing to drop her yet, but when he started talking about putting her foot behind her head all while he was holding her? Well that's where things started looking a little shaky.

"You really want me to toss you in the air and catch you?" He asked her, though while he was doubtful about that he could probably manage to hold her with one hand, it was just a small shift after moving his arms closer together after all, and it let him get his newly free hand under her foot and that felt more stable.

"That's what I know, thirty-three. You're just a football player." She was saying the right words, but her concentration was on her body, tightening up all of muscles so she could keep her balance.

"I'd say you'd get to look under my skirt, but I don't have it on at the moment," she said, smiling a little, but she didn't look down. "Let's get through the Scorpion, which by the way is harder than tossing me. Tossing me means you push and let go. I really do the rest," she assured him.

She locked her ankle and knee as he held her with both hands, and then she reached behind her, pulling her leg up over her head. There was no discussion now, because unlike what Tim thought, she was the one who could hurt them both at the moment.. After she aced the position, she let go just as slowly and decided that she didn't need do do any more positions. She put her foot down. "Okay, time to shift to one hand again and then you can play hero and catch the falling cheerleader."

"Just a football player?" He huffed, though at least with his hands over his head full of said cheerleader Tim didn't let himself get too indignant. "I'm a state champion running back, I'm not just a football player."

Tim didn't even bother looking up, Savannah might have been attractive - no that wasn't true, the girl was definitely attractive, but she was also engaged and Tim was just not at all interested in going there. She was like Becky in a lot of ways, sweet, funny, someone Tim liked hanging out with but she wasn't ever going to be more than that. "Yeah lets just get trough the whole putting your foot behind your head, which shouldn't even be possible by the way."

"Fyi if I drop you it's all your fault." Tim warned Savannah, though he was going to do his damnedest not to let that happen. He liked Savannah and he didn't want to be the person that got her hurt. "Ready?" He asked only now letting himself look up, just to make sure he knew where she was once he did that whole pushing her into the air and taking his hand away thing. And once she agreed, Tim pushed up and held his arms out to catch her.

"And a very good looking state champion running back," she agreed easily. That wasn't the issue and she kept going. "Still not a cheerleader, but almost as good. Almost."

Savannah didn't argue about what was and wasn't possible. She might not be able to do stunts, but she was doing her tumbling and stretching. She could do basic positions even in the rain. "You're not going to drop me," she said with certainty. "You're used to catching a ball, thrown at you from tens of yards away, under the rain. I'm a lot bigger and I'm coming down from right over your head. You can do this with your eyes closed." She wasn't even lying about this. She would have never attempted it if she hadn't trusted Tim to catch her.

"Ready." She used the momentum to jump and go horizontal while she span around, falling down and then she felt strong arms catch her, and there was that familiar ache of skin hitting skin at great speed, but it was normal and it meant that they were both still standing. As the world stopped spinning, she looked up and grinned. "Told you that you could catch me, Thirty-Three. You're a state champion, remember?"

"Almost." Tim repeated shaking his head just slightly while Savannah did whatever it was she was doing just over his head. They were never going to agree about who was better, cheerleaders or football players, though Tim could admit she was good.

So maybe Savannah made a little sense when she explained it like that, they'd played football in the mud and the rain before, and he'd caught the ball then. It was easier though - when you didn't have to worry about breaking the bones of a football, Savannah might be tough but that was a long way to fall. "I'm gonna keep my eyes open if it's all the same to you."

He really didn't have to move much at the end of it, she stayed very nearly right above him, just a short step back and Savannah came down into the cradle of his arms. "Still not a cheerleader, as you like to remind me." He grinned though, it wasn't too bad really - maybe it'd be easier if it wasn't raining.

Savannah chuckled when she was safe in his arm and put her arms around his neck. "See? You were brilliant. We can even try with your eyes closed next time," she said, giggling.

She kissed his cheek. "You were almost as good as a cheerleader. In fact, I think you did amazingly. Thank you. I miss stunting and flying. It's... different, it's a great feeling, and I don't get that anymore." She grinned at him. "You can put me down and we can toss a ball if you want. I'm not a quarterback, but I've learned some plays, and I can catch myself. Do you want to play?" she asked, because she might like to cheer, but playing ball in the rain was fun.

Tim laughed shaking his head when Savannah teased him. "I think I'll be keeping my eyes open anytime we do this in the future." Tim assured her - he doubted there was ever going to be a time he trusted himself enough for that, just teasing or not.

"So this is your plan isn't it? Make me lift you and throw you around and stuff and then turn me into a cheerleader?" Tim asked with a smirk as he set Savannah on her feet. "I wouldn't know about flying - least not what you're talkin' about - could be fun maybe, I guess ... if you like that kind of thing." Tim really didn't have a clue. But he grinned wide when she suggested throwing a ball around, now football in the rain, even if it was just the two of them - that was much more his style. "You hafta ask?" He laughed all ready running off to get the ball they'd gotten to play with at Easter.
