RP: Getting the news
Who: Troy, Jenna, Nick, Alexis, Dom, Claudia, Tim, Sean, April, Eliot, Nate, Bud
Where: Sparring room/locker room - 1st floor
When: November 1, 2012
Summary: The team members get the news

When people had been called away, the rest of the group had stayed and kept training. It was the main difference with school. With only twenty minutes or so left of work, it would have been tempting to go, but instead they stayed, until all of their phones began buzzing at the same time. It was hardly the first time, but it was rarely good news when it happened during training. The fun ones came after work, when people planned parties and trips.

Troy took out his phone and read the message just like everyone else did, but they didn't have to, not when Eliot's phone was reading the message for all of them.

One email and their world had changed again.

Troy put the phone away and went to Sean's side. They had spent plenty of time discussing what family was and whether Savannah was really his sister or not, but now was not the time to discuss it, not when Sean's feelings were clear.

Wrapping his arms around his husband, Troy kissed him gentle. "I'm so so sorry, baby." Of course, it was easier to concentrate on Savannah instead of John. His feelings for Savannah took a backseat to Sean's. John was something else. "Is there anything I can do?"

Sean just stared at the phone for a long moment, unbelieving. This had to be a mistake. He was always half-prepared for someone to die. There'd been so many deaths over the last year and a half. He worried about his dad and G all the time because they were always the first ones out whenever possible, last ones back. But, not Savannah. Maybe it was naive because she was on the teams, too. But, they were partners. He could do his damnedest to keep her alive. And she was so much better than so many.

And John...John had been his first friend in this world because things with Savannah were weird then and he couldn't count her because of it. But, John was another one that was better than most. They were too good to just die now.

Troy's arms around him brought Sean out of his head and he hugged him tightly as his vision began to blur. It wasn't fair. Why had they even been sent out in the first place? Why alone and without either Sean or Derek? G never sent anyone without their partner. So, it had to be the Director. But, why them of all people?

Blinking rapidly, he pulled away enough to see Troy's face clearly and shook his head. "God, I don't even know what to do."

It felt like he was breaking inside. But, even as he thought that, he knew he wouldn't be the only one. The family would need them, G and Marty especially. And Brian and Derek would need them. Looking around, he couldn't really name a single person whose life hadn't been touched by the two of them. "Should find Dad, see what G and Marty need. Someone should do the same for Brian and Derek."

Keep busy and help the others.

He should have known that Sean would be thinking about the others, but Troy had promised him that Sean would always come first, not matter what, and now it was more important than every.

"Your dad has it under control. I'm sure. You saw the way Robert left. I'm sure that he knew something," he said. "They'll be all right and Sam will tell us what he needs us to do." It hadn't escaped his notice that Deeks had left with Callen and Sam and the rest.

Troy pressed his lips against Sean's, before pressing their foreheads together. "I love you and right now, I care about what you need," he said softly. "We'll worry about everyone else after I make sure you're all right."

Nick listened to the message, then read it again on his own phone with a frown. Savannah and John were dead? Why? It didn't make sense.

"This doesn't make sense," Nick said aloud. "Why are they dead? Did someone kill them?"

Alexis looked at Sean the moment that she heard Nick speak up. God, they were going to have another death pretty soon.

She walked over to his side. "Yes, someone did and now shut up." She hoped that he listened, for his sake.

Nick wanted to ask who, how, where, and why, because this was Savannah and John and how could they get killed? But Alexis told him to shut up and wouldn't have done so if it wasn't important. So he shut up.

Jenna/Dom

As a Marine on active duty, Jenna had dealt with the loss before. Yet now she stood like frozen, unable to move. It had taken a lot of time for her to get used to Savannah's presence, more to not find her annoying, and an eternity to think of her as family. She had never been able to think of her as a sister the way Sean did, but she had become family. Those girls were Blaze's cousins. Now they were without their mother.

Savannah was gone, and Jenna couldn't help but to think of the times when she'd wished her to be. Not dead, obviously, but out of the way. Now she was and it was dreadful. For all of them. Savannah had been the glue that kept them together.

She looked up as Dom approached, still having a hard time to grasp it. "Marty, he'll need help. We'll have to help him with the girls, and G and Dad, and Sean-" she looked at him. "Why the fuck was she and John out alone? How is this even possible?" She knew her father and G wouldn't have let them go alone, not without their partners, their team. It was so wrong. They shouldn't be dead.

Dom got closer and hugged her. He knew Jenna had never got close to Savannah like the other members of her family, but they had spent plenty of time while pregnant and all those dinners. This had to impact her in ways that the other deaths hadn't.

"Deeks needs some time, but we'll be there. We'll help when they need us." If they needed them, he mentally added, because knowing those man, they'd resist any attempt of help. "I don't know, Jenna." If they wanted them to know the reason, they would have told them, but the email seemed scarce on details. "The email is from the director." That said everything as far as he was concerned.

"I- It's surreal," she said. "How can they be dead? How could the director send them out alone?" It was so wrong on so many levels.

She returned the hug and closed her her in a odd show of weakness she wouldn't normally display in public, feeling her cheeks get wet "This shouldn't have happened." She heard Nick's question and while it was obvious that someone must have killed them she understood the confusion. He was voicing her own thoughts. This didn't make any sense.

"They weren't alone." He had no intention of defending Vance and doubted that the man cared, but this was a reality that they might have to face in the future. "They were with each other."

He pulled back. "We don't know what happened. We don't know where or why. They could have just gone out with each other. Like it happened with Peter or Nate. This shouldn't have happened, but it can. Every time we stepped outside." He sighed. "We'll figure it out, okay?"

Yes it could, it had, but this was Savannah and John. The woman who could turn into anything and the boy who could fly away, both always alert, paranoid, always thinking of everything as a mission. If anyone of them were going to die, it shouldn't be these two.

"Yeah," she said. "We'll figure it out." She wasn't sure how, but they'd have to. Savannah would want to keep the family together, she'd want them to look out for each other. That was what they had to do.

April/Eliot

April stared at the email in disbelief. Of all the deaths they'd suffered, other than Mike's, this felt most real. Most painful. She thought of those two beautiful girls she'd helped deliver. They would grow up without a mother. She thought of the way Savannah had always been so sure. About the children, about Marty, about life.

She'd been the first one to point out that she loved Eliot, and though she'd somehow known, she hadn't been ready to accept it at that time. She had been right about that, as well as so many other things. And then there was John. The teenager with the maturity of an adult. Always so helpful and generous and nice. Both of them truly good people.

She looked at Nick when he spoke up, but it was Eliot her eyes sought out next. He was wearing a hat to protect against the light, as well as patches under his sunglasses. Making her way over to him she slipped her arms under his, drawing her strength from him. She didn't say anything, couldn't say anything, she just buried her head in his chest.

The news was delivered in a computerized female voice. It made it seem cold and impersonal, and this was anything but - this was Savannah and John.

Eliot was stunned. Savannah was as good as anyone could get without a decade of experience and John was a displaced rebel soldier with the paranoia of one who'd been hunted for a long time. Unless they were sniped simultaneously, it wasn't possible for anyone normal to get the drop on them both, especially not when on assignment from Vance. And Eliot knew Vance had sent them out. There was no other reason why they'd be gone from base on a Thursday if Vance hadn't ordered it.

Eliot felt the approach of someone, and when arms slid around him at a certain height, he untensed and wrapped April into a solid embrace. He pressed his face against the top of her hair, lips thinned, anger and sorrow roiling within him.

Whoever had done this, in one way or another, they were going to pay.
