Re: April/Eliot
The news was delivered in a computerized female voice. It made it seem cold and impersonal, and this was anything but - this was Savannah and John.
Eliot was stunned. Savannah was as good as anyone could get without a decade of experience and John was a displaced rebel soldier with the paranoia of one who'd been hunted for a long time. Unless they were sniped simultaneously, it wasn't possible for anyone normal to get the drop on them both, especially not when on assignment from Vance. And Eliot knew Vance had sent them out. There was no other reason why they'd be gone from base on a Thursday if Vance hadn't ordered it.
Eliot felt the approach of someone, and when arms slid around him at a certain height, he untensed and wrapped April into a solid embrace. He pressed his face against the top of her hair, lips thinned, anger and sorrow roiling within him.
Whoever had done this, in one way or another, they were going to pay.
