Where: Email/Team Center
Summary: Claudia gets working on her assignment.

To: Undisclosed Recipients
From: Claudia Donovan
Subject: Brief word at AM Recall

Tomorrow at Recall, I'd like a very brief word with everyone, please. Thank you.

Claudia Donovan

At Recall, everyone stopped morning PT and after being dismissed but before people dispersed to get cleaned up and eat Claudia cleared her throat loudly and said, "Excuse me, my brief word please." She waited a few beats until everyone who was going to give her attention was paying attention. "Please stay and talk to me if you're interested in doing something pink this coming Saturday afternoon. That's it. Thanks."

She waited to see who was going to stay. After she'd gotten her assignment, she'd visited the website of the spa, found something doable in her price range, and now needed to get to work on planning an op to the Green Spa for an In Pink Manicure. If she was assigned to do something she'd never do, she might as well do it for a good cause.

"I understood the general gist before but now it's more crystal." She caught herself after a beat and added, "Clear. Crystal clear."

Claudia thought about the location-wise, and another question. "Since I already met my spa people, I can use them again without being Cheater-Cheater Pumpkin Eater, and damn it." Claudia pulled a face. "This communication thing, still gonna take time. But I will get there!" Claudia pumped her fist in the air with determination. Sure, she'd been in undercover training with Callen for weeks, but she'd be speaking like she speaks for years.

She gave him half a smile and went back to the question. "I'll focus on the question part now. Let's say I sent the email, and then people came up to talk to me at various points during the day. I could, conceivably, tell them individually what's the skinny or tell them to meet me in the conference room at such and such a time so I can give the information all in one go as long as we're at the Team Center, with noise or in here. Didn't you say in the basement of our houses, too?

"Also, how do you know how important the information is? Sticking with my spa, I told them in the secure room the location, day, general time, and the plan I was going to follow to set things up. Does that qualify?"

"Good, and it's fine. You're learning. The people you worked with did you a disservice," he said, calmly. "You can't pretend to be someone else until you can pass under the radar as yourself. I don't mind the mistakes as long as you try."

Sam smiled back. "All right, let's slow down. You can answer questions if you can manage to talk where there's noise or not say too much that would let someone figure out where and when you're going. If you are in the conference room, someone needs to activate the scrambler or it's just another room in the building. The basement, too, but again, covered windows, noise. The only reason I say this room is because with a scrambler on, very little can be heard. Is it possible? It's always possible. I always assume that every conversation is public. It minimizes the dangers though."

He nodded. "The most important things are the when, where and security measures. Knowing that you are going to a spa doesn't help if they don't know which one and when. Knowing that you will be away for three hours, still doesn't help them."

"So maybe my best bet would have been to email and say, 'I'd like to go to the spa this weekend. Come to the conference room at morning Recall if you're interested'?" Claudia asked. "It does give a time and location for a meeting on base, but not how many may show up or where the spa is." Claudia's brow wrinkled with thought. "But it does beg the question from Those Possibly Listening In: why does she need to talk to people in a conference room about something as innocuous as a spa day?"

She slumped her shoulders. "This is a lot harder than keeping a secret place secret and making up stories about why someone saw a dish run away with a spoon. Director Vance said not to go into detail about home, but sometimes I wish I could just to make it easier for other people, like you, to get where I'm coming from."

Sam smirked. "Let them wonder. They'll never know when it's a real trip to the spa or when it's code for something else. Feel free to confuse them as much as you want."

He shook his head. "It's not easier. You deal with most people, they will believe the lie, because it's easier. We're not dealing with regular people. We are dealing with people who are used to question everything, who assume that everything is an op, that nothing is the truth, the words don't always mean what they are. We're keeping people from different dimensions here and all around the country. That's easy. Keeping this base a secret is fine. No one knows what we do here. It's only hard when you're doing with other professionals."

"Hey, maybe my speech pattern can be the new form of code." Claudia chuckled. "Thanks. I feel much more secure in my knowledge about being secure." She stood. "I'll be emailing you and Emily probably Wednesday about setting up the op go-over meeting. I'm definitely not a procrastinator when it comes to anything but inventory."
