RP: Tyra & Troy
Who: Tyra & Troy
Where: Team center
When: 23 November 2011 (lunch)
Summary: Tyra picks another victim person to talk to at lunch.

Tyra had gone through another day and it was much the same. Getting up early for training first of all. It didn't feel normal by any stretch of the imagination but at least she was picking up some useful skills. That's how she was going to think of it. It was better than thinking that if she was back at home, she'd be in her truck on her way back to see her family. She wasn't sure how Tim felt about missing out on Thanksgiving but Tyra felt just awful. She knew that nothing had been done to cover up Tim's disappearance and she didn't imagine anything would be done for hers. She'd have just disappeared without a trace, leaving her family to think she'd either ran away from everything or that she was dead.

She kept trying to push it out of her mind but it was still there despite it all. There was only so much she could force out and all of this had been more than a little overwhelming.

Tyra had been adding to her mental list of questions as she went through the days. It was great living with Tim; she could ask away and because they weren't anywhere public, nobody was going to think she was an idiot for not knowing how things worked around here. She liked Savannah, who she'd met yesterday, but Tim was the person she'd go to first. He was her friend, she trusted him, and he knew her. Tyra figured he had to know how much she disliked being out of the loop.

Tyra had just finished training in the morning and, as before, made her way to where everybody ate lunch. She picked somebody new to talk to, one of the guys who she'd been told hadn't arrived long before her. She was pretty sure his name was Troy but she decided to err on the side of caution and check.

"Hey there- It's Troy, right?" she asked, smiling. "Mind if I eat lunch with you?"

Tomorrow was Thanksgiving and he should be on a plane to New Mexico and not thinking whether his body would survive another night with Sam Hanna. He thought he was fit before getting here, but this had nothing to do with fit. This training pushed you to the limit and then demand some more. It was bad, but it was also good, because it didn't give Troy the time to think about tomorrow.

At lunch, he was going over the notes from the morning classes, another way to keep occupied and he barely noticed when the woman approached. Troy stood up as she spoke to him. "Yes, it's Troy, and you're Tyra, right?" he said offering her his hand. "And, sure, I'd love the company."

"That's right," Tyra shook his hand before sitting, glad that this guy seemed friendly too. She had noticed so far that most of the non-agents were a lot easier to talk to. She looked across at the papers Troy seemed to be intent upon reading, making out that they were class notes. "You sure I'm not disturbing you? You seem to be pretty interested in those notes."

"So you've been here about a week longer than me, right?" she asked, giving him a bright smile. "How are you settling in? It's kinda crazy here, don't you think?"

Troy shook his head. "No, don't worry about it. They are notes on the criminal profiling class. It's actually quite interesting and can applies to a lot more than criminals, but please-" He gestured toward the chair. "Make yourself comfortable."

He waited for her to sit down, before taking a seat as well. "Yes, Sunday before yours, and it is crazy. I'm trying not to think about things too much, concentrate on what we have to do, get to know the people. I'm sure it will hit m at some point, but for now, I'll just take it as it comes if you know what I mean. What about you? Who are you staying with? Do you like your roommates?"

"So I don't have too much to be scared of when classes start next week then?" she asked, chuckling. "It does sound interesting but then I like learning new things. I keep trying to tell myself that at least some of the stuff we're learning is gonna be useful, you know?"

"Me too. Luckily all this training is distracting me right now and I have to concentrate at the range but- Tomorrow's going to suck," They had the day off and although they were going to be eating with the whole group and probably have a good time, she knew she'd be thinking of home. She really hoped Harvey hadn't been joking about the whiskey; she thought she'd need it by the end of the night. "So where did you come here from?"

"I'm living with Tim, Neal and Harvey, it's great. Tim and I have known each other forever, we're from the same town," She smiled. "It's so weird we both ended up here. Neal's kinda quiet but Harvey seems nice too from what I can tell. How about you?"

"No, on the contrary. I've enjoyed classes until now. Psych, criminal profiling, law and ethics, criminal law, and behavioral science, it's all very interesting. It's too bad that the classes are so short. This is stuff that you can cover in a semester," he said. "In fact, things like behavioral science and psych are used in the media to predict what people will watch or read, but I think you can apply it to just any other field."

Troy sighed. "I'm really trying not to think about that, but Savannah seemed to have mapped out the day for us, so maybe it'll help. I'm from New Mexico, but I was at Berkeley, last year of college, Media Studies, what about you?"

Troy tried to remember the names. He knew who Tim and Neal were, because they were in Advanced Training, but he didn't think he'd seen this Harvey man. "That's good, that you like living there and about Tim. There seem to be a few people that knew each other that ended up here. Maybe something with these experiments, concentrating in certain areas," he said with a shrug. "I'm living with Hetty and Nell. It's ... mindboggling. Hetty is the Assistant Director and you have to hear the way she speaks. The woman comes out of some cold war movie, and Nell is pretty smart too, intelligence analyst. She promised to show me what she does up there."

"You can use 'em in politics too," she said with a grin. "So I don't mind taking classes like that. I'm glad I asked, I wasn't sure if I was going to be bored out of my brains or reading incomprehensible textbooks all night."

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to remind you. Though if it helps, I'm planning on buying something stronger for after the dinner Savannah's throwing. You're more than welcome to come and join me drinking it," she offered with a smile. And so perhaps some things had never changed and she'd never be the best influence but she didn't like thinking of anybody sad, including herself.

"Well, we got picked up from different parts of Texas but sure, it's a bit of a coincidence. It would have been weirder if we'd both been in Dillon though, it's barely a blip on the radar," she admitted with a smile. "I've heard their names, haven't met them yet though. Savannah asked me to sing on Saturday though so perhaps I'll see them there. It seems a lot of people go to the club, right?"

"Yes, you can, although that's really not my field. I was going to be a sportscaster," he told her. "No, you shouldn't worry. The classes are great, and if you survived advanced training with a SEAL, then classes will be a breeze," he said, laughing.

"Can you believe that we're training with a SEAL? These guys sneak into countries and kill people, and we're training with one." He shrugged. "Don't worry about it. It's not like I can exactly forget, no matter how much we try. "If you've got energy after a whole day of Thanksgiving partying, then why not. I've heard there is football planned. Played, I mean, and of course the watching kind, too. What's Thanksgiving without six hours of football, right?" he said, chuckling.

"Unless you come in together, and then it's not weird, because you're stepping in together." Troy laughed. "She's getting everyone to help. Sean has already roped me into it and I play the drums too. So I'll definitely see you then."

"Sportscaster? So do you play at Berkeley- What sport?" she asked, groaning a little when she mentioned the training classes. "Don't remind me, I'm pretty sure I ache in places I shouldn't. I've been promised they're not trying to kill me but sometimes it feels like it."

"We've got football?" Tyra's face brightened slightly. Sure, she didn't actually like football that much but that at least could make her feel more at home. She hoped she could play.. She thought tomorrow she'd probably have the anger at not being home to release and competitive sport was always pretty good for that. "Come live in Texas and try living without it," she agreed, laughing.

"Oh, he came months and months ago. I just meant if Dillon was a hotspot or something, that'd be pretty strange. Plus really, you wouldn't want some of the residents here. I'm not sure they'd even survive outside that town," she teased. "You play the drums? That's pretty cool. My singing isn't so great but I can hold a tune so that's something."

"Yes, and yes. I'm- I was on the basketball team. That's how I got my scholarship there." He smirked. "Don't like the classes? It does get better. I trained daily, weights, running, push ups, you know the works, but this still feels exhausting and Monday nights are brutal at the pool. Today is usually better, or was last week since I had the grand total of a week to figure it out."

He nodded. "I don't know the details, but you hear people talking. It's impossible not to, especially when Savannah is involved in something. She can be very ... open," he said with a grin. "I know; I was teasing. It was never that bad for me."

Troy started to put all the papers away to make room in case she wanted to put something on the table. "I don't want anyone I know to come here. As much as I'd like the company, it's not right. Well, maybe my ex, but then I might have to kill myself, having to deal with her on a daily basis, so maybe it's just better this way," he said, chuckling. "They practice on Saturday, or so I'm told. Ask Sean; he's the one to talk to about the singing."

"I went to the gym before, mostly because I felt I had to, but this doesn't even compare," Tyra smiled and shook her head. "I don't mind them, they're just really hard."

"I noticed, I met her at lunch yesterday. I already have the who's who of dating and have been warned about the dangers of sex," she said with a chuckle. "I hadn't even finished my sandwich by that point but she's nice, she reminds me of home a little bit. Nothing was a secret there either."

She looked at him sympathetically. Tyra knew only too well about exes and it wasn't always easy to see them. "Bad break-up?" she guessed. "I wouldn't want anybody I know to come here either but I'm glad Tim is or I wouldn't feel half as... Alright about this."

"As I said, I trained, two hours a day, and they are still hard," he said, laughing. "But if it makes you feel better, I don't think they are meant to be easy."

Troy groaned. "Please don't remind me." He was hardly a player like Penny had implied, but he liked sex. "Basically have sex and you can get sick or pregnant. It's like a right wing Christian's wet dream. I half expect to hear some evangelist tell me that it's God's punishment for living a life of sin."

He took a deep breath. "More like a too good relationship when we were young. I moved to California to be with her, even though Berkeley wasn't my first choice and even though it's a great school, I probably would have been happier somewhere else, so there's a lot of resentment there. I should have known though. My parents probably knew but my mom was so glad that I got into Berkeley that she didn't say anything."

"No, I'm sure they're not. Otherwise why would they put a SEAL in charge?" she questioned with a grin. "So what's been your favorite lesson so far? Are some of the agents better teachers than others?"

"I'm sure plenty of people would tell you that where I'm from," Tyra smiled. "It's not that bad though, I guess. It could be a lot worse. It just means people have to get creative although I didn't say so to Savannah. She didn't seem the type to appreciate it."

"I'm sorry, that can't have been easy," she said sincerely. "Though at least you have the good times to remember, right? And the resentment... It might get easier now you're away from there, crappy as it sounds. Besides, there's a lot of pretty women around. Maybe you'll find someone to take your mind off of things."

"Damn, and here I thought they put him in charge so we want a body like his. Nothing spells motivations like jealousy," he said, laughing. "I think behavioral science was my favorite, and we haven't had that many teachers, Callen and Derek. Very different styles. Derek is more easy going. Callen is all business."

He chuckled. "I'm from New Mexico. It's not that different." He sighed. "Can you? I mean obviously you can get creative, but you're also exposing yourself to all sorts of things, STDs, HIV for which we can't be tested, and even if we could, we don't know if the meds work on us, which leaves you with taking risks or being into committed relationships. I'm not sure I'm ready for that."

He snorted. "I'll take resentment over getting practically married. I think my hand and I can be resentful together. It's all right with me."

"I'm dying for his body. I mean it's not like I stand out enough being this tall, right?" Tyra joked. "Callen- The one Savannah calls G, I think. I get confused with all the nicknames and surnames. Back home, it was first name, last name as a nickname and maybe a shirt number for some of the players," She paused. "I guess that would be confusing to outsiders too though."

"Well, it depends, I guess. Savannah mentioned something about an antibiotic thing for some of the problems," she pointed out. "I suppose it's more risky if you're looking outside of this group. At least we all know the risks, the soldiers at the base don't. And I'm sorry, this isn't the most polite conversation. I should probably be blushing and changing the subject about now."

"I'll try not to think about that," She laughed. "Otherwise I might not be able to look you in the face."

"I meant more for the guys, but sure, go ahead, go for it," he said, laughing. "Yeah, that's him, and no one calls him that except his family from what I can tell. There are rules, but it boils down to go with last names unless people tell you to use something else."

He nodded. "Yes, but they don't know if they work. I've already been told that they will give it to you, but no guarantee that they will do anything, and they don't work on any viral STD or HIV." Troy shrugged. "It's a health issue as far as I'm concerned, so no need to blush. It's also riskier when you look in the group. It's not like you have a choice of never seeing them again."

Troy chuckled. "Fine, no talking about that either."

"It's what I'm used to anyway," Tyra knew how to mind her manners and she would never have called her friends' parents anything other than Mr or Mrs with their surname. She'd shortened Mrs Taylor's name to Mrs T but t hat was as informal as she would get.

"I guess not. I just know one thing, I'm not planning on being here for the next few months, let alone years without sex. And when I get married, it isn't going to be for convenience," she said, shrugging. "That's not so odd for me either. I'm from a town where 80% of the people would know within 6 hours if you hooked up with anybody. I've got a pretty thick skin."

"Hey, I'm just trying to be polite. It doesn't come all that easily," she added with a chuckle.

"Yeah same here. Basketball teams come with last names, and we're a team, although it's weird that some of the people on the team are almost as old as my parents," he said.

Troy smiled. He liked a woman that knew what she wanted, even if he wasn't sure he agreed. "I don't know about months, but it's been a week, and I can wait a little bit longer." He wasn't going to get into that situation in the first place, no matter what she thought. "I'd hate growing up in a town that small. It's my business and no one else."

He chuckled. "You don't have to be polite with me. I don't care."

"That does seem strange now I think about it," Tyra had pushed it to her side, along with the fact that a couple of the younger people - Savannah and John - seemed to be married or dating much older people. She wondered if it was because they'd arrived sooner and there hadn't been other younger people but she didn't want to pry."

"I didn't know anything else," she said with a smile. "It wasn't like I didn't get used to it. Besides, it had its benefits however small they might seem." At least she'd known when Tim was cheating on her or when Landry had started flirting with Jean.

"You sure?" She grinned. "You might regret saying that."

"I guess this dimensional thing doesn't care about age. There's a little of everything, and Hetty is old, like sixty old, so you have a little of everything," he said.

"I guess if you grow up like that you get used to it, but going from a city, even if not as big as New York to this is strange," he admitted. "I guess getting to know everyone is nice."

Troy snorted. "I'm sure. I was in a locker room often enough. I doubt you can say anything that can make me blush."

"I guess not. Places, ages, it's pretty crazy. Can you imagine if we start getting people from different countries? That would be so insane," she said. "I hope we don't get any kids or babies come through. That would be pretty horrible."

"Yeah, I imagine it can get kind of claustrophobic for city folks though," she admitted with a frown. "Austin seemed so large when I first got there. It was awful, I didn't know anybody there. I was tempted to turn my truck around and go home."

"Oh now that just makes me wanna try," Tyra joked.

"I think I'll take people from different countries over children." It couldn't imagine how that would work even if there were plenty of people willing to take care of them if the pregnancies were any indication.

"Albuquerque is the biggest city in New Mexico, almost a million people and San Francisco has seven and a half million. Granted, technically Berkeley isn't San Francisco, but I spent plenty of time there. It's better than this."

He grinned. "Do your worse."

"Same here. I know it sounds awful but the only kids I ever want to look after are my sister's or my own," she admitted. "I like them and all, just not that much."

"Is that where you lived in New Mexico?" she asked. "I've never really been anywhere, I know I can't imagine that many people that easily though. I know Austin's big but I think it's less than a million total."

"Now? When you're expecting it?" She pretended to think about it before chuckling. "I don't think so. There's no element of surprise now. Wouldn't be half as fun."

"I was thinking how horrible it would be for them," he said, wondering just how self-involved this woman really was. "If it's hard for us, I can't imagine what it'd be like for children with no parents and no clear understanding of what's going on."

He nodded. "Yes, we were there all my life, we moved to different cities, but we were in Albuquerque for a long time, and yeah, Austin is smaller than Albuquerque, not by much. San Francisco has the highest density, I think. It's not that big, but millions of people."

Troy chuckled. "Right, then you'll just have to surprise me." Now that would be more likely, especially if it happened near Sam or Callen, because they could be a team, but those two were intimidating and old.

"Well... That goes without saying," Tyra said, looking at him a bit strangely. "I mean nobody would wish that on a kid, especially not one old enough to know something was wrong but not able to understand the whole picture. I couldn't imagine it. I really hope there's some kind of age limit."

"Not sure I'd like that. I wouldn't want to feel like I was living on top of people, you know?" she asked, pushing her hair behind her ear and looking at him. "Did you like such a busy place?" And how come you moved from Albuquerque?"

"I will," she promised. "Don't you worry about that."

"Let's hope that you're right." He really didn't like the idea of having a child taken from his parents like that, not that adults deserved it, but it was so much worse for a child.

"I lived in a dorm. You can't get more on top than that," he said, laughing. "I don't think that's very different regardless of where you go to school." He nodded. "There's always plenty to do, that's for sure, and that's where Berkeley is and were Gabriella was."

"I'll be on guard," he said, winking at her.

It didn't feel like there was a lot of things they could do from what she'd seen so far. Not in the grand scheme of things. It was all about coping and training which was great while she was getting used to it but she couldn't imagine a year of it.

"In a dorm with basketball players?" she guessed, chuckling.

"I'm sure you will be," She looked at her watch. "I said I was going to drop into Major Crimes this afternoon. Maybe see you tomorrow after the dinner? Invitation's open so feel free to come over."

"Dorms are pretty big at Berkeley. There are like 700 people in one building if not more, depending on the building. We don't have that many basketball players," he said, laughing. "As I said, I'm used to having lots of people around."

Troy nodded. "Sure, I'll keep it in mind depending on when dinner is over. We still have training bright and early on Friday. No that really sucks. I like my long weekend. Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow."
