RP: Auggie's arrival
Who: August Anderson and others
Where: Washington DC to Arlington, Virginia
When: November 14, 2011
Summary: Auggie arrives in Omega

His ride didn't show up, which had happened once or twice before, Auggie could forgive a guy for being late after all. What was worrisome though was that his phone wasn't working and his key code suddenly wasn't working for the building security either. A few more attempts to make calls became fruitless and that left Auggie to figure things out on his own.

First was getting to his safe house, once there he could regroup try to make some calls again and come up with a plan of action. He dropped his own phone and started the journey to Arlington. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he wasn't going to worry about that just yet, keeping himself safe was his main priority. Once he could assure himself a few minutes privacy he'd break out his laptop, and get back in touch with the DPD.

Of course, his plan was further thwarted when he made it to Arlington and his safe house seemed to not be where he left it. And that more than anything else was what had him actually worried. He could deal with everything else up to this point, he had plans and measures in place, but his safe house was by definition safe, and to find that it suddenly wasn't? Well Auggie at a loss, but he didn't let himself stick around for long, instead changing his course of direction and working on a new plan. A minute to breath though and he was moving again, deciding to go for crowded places, a coffee shop or something like that would be ideal, hiding in plain sight was the best he had for the moment - hopefully it would give him a chance to get his computer set up, grab a burn phone and try to make a few calls to get things figured out.

They had barely started the work day when the call came. Another arrival. The one from last night had barely settled in an here they were, dealing with another one, this one closer. Sam knew that G would want to go, but fortunately he was teaching (not that he didn't stop to check out the situation), and maybe that would cut down on the arguments.

A few minutes in the Ops Center told him about the blindness. However, it didn't tell him how the man moved so well, and he didn't mean just in terms of being blind, but in adjusting to different situations, buildings that had to have changed. They could deal with that later, though. He knew what he wanted to do, but G was still in charge. "I want to take everyone, gives Ross and Alexis a chance to see things. You and Sean stay behind. He was up with Bolton until late." They just stared at each other for a few seconds and then the nod, and Sam was moving.

He called the team and sent emails cancelling advanced training while the others got ready, and then they were in two cars driving. They broke every speed limit at least until they had to make a stop on the side of the road. The fact that Savannah was throwing up was not completely unexpected and after that he made sure that she was riding in the passenger seat and that she was chewing on the crackers he had brought along just for this emergency.

By the time they got to Arlington, they knew a little more. Eric was monitoring the man's internet browsing, blocking anything that could get them in trouble. As strange as it sounded, this man worked for some agency, but that was a concern for after they apprehended him. Sam split them up in two groups, but stealth was hard when you arrived with a SWAT team in a small town, because this Arlington was not near the capital of the country, and the coffee shop was suddenly quiet. He knew that they couldn't shoot the man without ending up in the news.

G was going to kill him for this. He slung his rifle back. "Keep the rifles on him," he said over the ear wig. He walked closer and sat down in front of the man, far from arm's reach. "I know you can hear the difference. I'm a federal agent and you have a SWAT team with guns on you. We could have shot you if that was what we wanted, but I'm here to bring you in and help you. You can get up and come with us or I can give the order and you'll be shot. Those are your choices."

He did hear the different before the man even sat down across from him, though Auggie kept right on like there was nothing amiss, he'd play up the clueless blind guy card for as long as it took for him to gain some understanding of what was going on. All of his searching was proving useless.

"A SWAT team?" Auggie asked, tilting his head and giving what might have been a considering look to the man seated across from him if he still had his eye sight. "That seems a bit excessive for one man, don't you think?" There were times Auggie would insist that his blindness was not the hindrance everyone seemed to think it was, that he was still able to function just as well as he ever had as an operative. But sitting there with a man he couldn't see across from him, and what could possibly be a SWAT team surrounding them, or possibly a bluff, he wished more than ever that he had his sight.

In the end, Auggie decided for the time being cooperation was the best way to go, and he shut down his laptop, closing it up. "I'm just going to put this away then and you can lead the way." He said, tucking the laptop away, taking care to make his movements as visible as possible. "We wouldn't want to disturb these people anymore than you already have."

"I like to be prepared," he said, not saying more than he had to until they were out of here. The comment about disturbing people had him laughing. "Don't worry about that. People seemed to remember they had other things to do when we came in."

Sam stood up, keeping his eyes on the man, because he didn't trust anyone, blind or not. He looked up at Deeks and nodded toward the door. "We have two cars out and enough people to fill them. Those are the noises you're hearing." The boots were enough to tell him, but Sam didn't want this guy to do something stupid because he thought Sam was bluffing.

His hand was on his rifle as they left the coffee shop, scanning the area. "Up front," he told Savanna, before opening the door for the man. "Sorry, but you'll be between two of my men. You'll find out what's going on soon enough, though," he said, motioning to both Deeks and John to get on either side, and only when he was sure that the man wasn't going anywhere, he got up front." He let Renko go first, before pulling out. He turned out the radio in case anyone was listening. "I'm Special Agent Hanna, NCIS, and you are? We only had a picture." That was close enough.

At least it was quiet around them, they really must have had a SWAT team around to get so many people to silence themselves so completely, or maybe they'd disappeared all together. Either way it made it easier for Auggie to follow the man who had sat down with him out side and into the waiting car, listening to the sound of not only his own footsteps but those moving outside as well.

"Oh no problem, I prefer things to be a little cozy when I ride in the back seat, so this works out just fine." Auggie said amiably folding his hands in his lap settling between the two men on either side of him as the car pulled away from the curb.

"John," Auggie answered when asked who he was. "John Barton. Nothing so special as NCIS myself, say what does that mean? I never was very good keeping all those things straight, I mean can't the government just keep everything simple and easy? It'd make it a lot easier on guys like me." He could keep right on going like this all day if necessary. "Oh but like I was saying I'm a computer programer, free lance mostly, picking up jobs whenever they come up. Did you guys go to Datatech this year? It was pretty sweet. Is that what this is about? Because I know I've had a lot of people ask me about the hack I made, but you know it's not so great that you needed to send the SWAT out for me. A phone call would have sufficed."

If Sam were not the suspicious kind, he would have bought the act, but he was suspicious and he didn't believe anyone. "Very nice to meet you, Br. Barton. Of course you don't mind if we check. Deeks, find me an ID." The sooner they got the man's identity, the faster this would go.

"We would have called except your phone isn't working. Your computer isn't working either. In fact nothing works and nothing is where it's supposed to be, and yet you handled it wonderfully," Sam said as he drove North and into Maryland. "I should tell you that we've had you on camera for the past few hours, since everything stopped making sense."

Savannah sighed. "Gosh, you really take a long time to talk to people, and then you wonder why people don't like it." She turned her head around. "I'm Savannah, and what he should really tell you is that all the lies aren't going to make a different, because none of it matters. Usually, we'd show all the things that are different before telling you a very incredible story that you won't believe, but we can't. We might as well try something else. Can you give you cover my hand with yours?" she said reaching back.

"It's nice to meet you too Special Agent Hanna." Auggie smiled, this was going to be a long day, but then he'd known that the minute he realized his ride wasn't showing up.

Auggie shrugged when told he'd handled the situation well. "What can I say, when you lose your eye sight and your entire world changes adapting to a phone with no signal and a broken computer suddenly becomes a much easier thing to do. It's not a big deal really." Of course there were cameras there were cameras everywhere these days he wasn't surprised to hear that they'd seen his trip from DC to Arlington and his movements since.

And then there was another voice, a young woman by the sounds of it when she began to address him. Not exactly the sort of thing he'd have expected from NCIS, but then nothing about today was going as expected. "It's a pleasure to meet you Savannah, or it might have been under different circumstances." He huffed a short breath and nodded when she started mentioning showing him incredible things he wouldn't believe. "Yes I don't think that plan would work very well, but you're more than welcome to try. I'll do my very best to picture anything you want to show me. I have been told I have an excellent imagination." He told her and grinned.

Still he wasn't against playing along, at least until he got more information so he reached out his hand until he found hers. "So what are you going to be showing me Savannah?"

Savannah smiled. "Good, but Sam is going to have to slow down or soon I'll be showing how well I can throw up and trust me no imagination needed. Looking back and driving is ewww," she said, making a face.

She waited until he took her hand. "Don't be afraid," she said, calmly before changing her water to pure ice and after a moment water and then metal, and then back to normal. "It's my hand. You know that it's my hand because you didn't let go and you're not imagining this."

Savannah squeezed the man's hand. "What Sam didn't say is that he used to be NCIS. We all used to be something else and from the Sam's words you were a lot more than a computer hacker."

"On October 1 of 2010, some idiotic scientists started an experiment. As far as we know it was financed by the military and this weapon if successful would allow them to travel through different dimensions and gain technological advantages," Sam picked up the explanation. "Things didn't go as planned. They opened rifts that they can't control. People move through dimensions and we don't understand exactly how or why."

He sped up again as Savannah turned around and he reached for the crackers and gave them to her. "The president has signed a very secret decree creating a new agency of all the people arriving from the other dimensions. Anyone traveling through dimension is considered an enemy of the state unless joins the organization. We find people arriving from other dimensions and do this song and dance before you can do something stupid and get yourself killed. We also get superpowers as you've seen from Savannah's demonstration. This is where we would have shown you that DC doesn't exist and that New York is the capital and that the World Trade Center is still standing, but it doesn't work in this case. Now, before you ask me what I'm smoking, can you give us your name? It's so much more friendlier than one of them taking your ID by force."

The shifts he felt on his hand were hard to explain, more than just some sort of trick, or perhaps just a very good one. "Say that's quite a trick, you didn't tell me this trip was going to include a show, I'm surprised I haven't heard of you guys before if this is how you bring people in." He said, wishing more than ever he could see for himself what he'd felt - there were some things that needed to be seen, things that you couldn't just feel and accept no matter how convincing.

He listened though, let them tell him what had happened, or their version of it. It was hard to believe the words though, easier to believe the feeling of it. Because things like alternate dimensions and super powers they were things that came right out of the comic books, they weren't real. "I was gonna go for a compliment to your imagination, I only thought mine was good - but I'm impressed you came up with all of that."

"John Barton, computer hacker, I told you already. I've got an ID in my bag if you really want it." He said lifting his hands up if anyone wanted to take his bag from him and see for themselves. It was a fantastic story, and whatever he felt had to be top of the line technology that didn't mean he was just going to be giving up his cover story for them because they'd done a few parlor tricks and told him a good story.

Sam rolled his eyes. "And I have a few IDs with different names. That doesn't make me think that you're who you think you are. We've been monitoring your internet. So what is it? NSA, CIA, FBI, please tell me that it's the last, because we do have people from there and maybe you can know someone in common. Actually we have CIA too, even if he's been out a while."

Savannah snorted. "This is so not ending well. You know I thought they were crazy too at the beginning." She looked at Marty. Too bad that he could go into the man's head. "You also know that we're telling you the truth. That was no trick, but my hand. If you want to try again, I can show you how I go on fire."

"Or we can go to New York, and he's someone else's problem," Sam said. "I get that it's difficult to understand, but we are telling you the truth and we are going to find out who you are with your prints if your doppelganger is in the system."

Auggie laughed shaking his head. "You really think any of those guy would let someone me in?" He wondered. "Man, the qualifications for joining government agencies must have really gone down recently. They might have heard of me, I mean if you've got someone involved in tech circles, I get calls from all sorts of people about my work." He shrugged, unconcerned for the time being, they were still talking - and talking was good as far as Auggie was concerned.

"Fire too? You'll have to explain to me how that works sometime, though I think I could do without the demonstration." He said grinning in Savannah's direction.

Marty shook his head silently while sitting beside the man, he was pretty good at this, keeping up with his story and any stalls he may have had at Savannah's demonstration of what she could do were easily covered. "You know I could always..." He trailed off gesturing from his head to the man beside him. "Take me all of five seconds." He was confident enough in his own power now that he was pretty sure he could manage it without the man even knowing what had happened.

Sam looked at Marty and nodded. "We have hackers too," he said, without missing a beat. "I'm sure they'll know you if you are who you say you are." Of course, Eric and Garcia would find a lot more than the man said, but he would figure that out.

"You'll be amazed what agencies hire lately," Sam added smiling at John. "I hear some are taking teenagers."

Savannah laughed. "Really? I wonder what agencies would those be." She turned her head. "No tricks, just a power. I can change into a lot of things. We all get different powers. John can fly, Sam can become incorporeal. There's some nifty ones, all really weird though."

"I'll just check this if you don't mind," Marty said taking the bag that was offered when the man claiming to be John said his ID was available, he could check it while at the same time doing his own ID check. It was a simple thing now, slipping into the man's mind and past the cover that was in place on top of everything else.

There was confusion and an attempt to figure things out and just a swirl of emotions that Marty thought were only natural given the state of things, but beneath that was what he was looking for August Anderson, CIA, tech officer. "Yep, just like he said there's an ID for John Barton here." Marty said. "Looks like I've got what I need."

"Well great, so you guys can just check on that and we can get this all sorted out and you can deal with your super powers and I can get back to my work and everything will work out just fine." Auggie said, ready for this whole thing to be over. He raised his eyebrows as Savannah listed off the powers of some of the people she apparently knew. "Flying and becoming incorporeal, you guys sound like you stepped right out of the pages of Marvel."

Sam took out his phone and texted Deeks: 'Name and Agency'. It was simple and to the point. He also texted Savannah and John with another simple message: 'text me anything'. He waited for all three texts to arrive, although really Deeks was the only one he really needed. He forwarded to Hetty, before putting his phone away.

"Yes, we'll be checking, however we rarely have any luck with the CIA," Sam said causally. "Everytime the CIA shows up, someone I know gets shot, which is incredible considering that you guys aren't even supposed to be operating inside the US. You know what really gets to me though? How many times you guys fuck up. Is that how you ended up blind? I mean I get it. It's the CIA and their training is... well, you're blind, so you know how deficient their training is. Did you know too much? Is that why they kept you on? Gave you a nice and fake ID with a fake name? It's August, right? So how old are you, August? Or is that fake too?"

Auggie had a moment of shock that they had managed to get his real name along with the agency like he just kept that sort of information on him at all times. Though he recovered as best he could. "August? Does my ID really say that? I swear, I'm going to have to go down to the DMV and get that straightened out, it's like if you can't see they take it as free reign to mess up on your license, like I wouldn't notice." He scoffed, not at all deterred by the reality that being blind he wouldn't even have a license in the first place.

"I am blind, that's quite an astute observation you made there Agent Hanna. And you know I can't tell you how much it helps me to have you be so understanding about it. I mean the last thing I'd want is for someone to think that I lost my sight in some horrible accident that I don't like talking about. It's so much easier to blame it on big government agency and their lack of training. Thank you, really. I don't know how I would have coped if I'd managed to get taken in by someone with just the smallest shred of understanding." He said shaking his head, so maybe it made him mad. Everyone had that point, and even years later it was still a sensitive subject for him.

"Well, no CIA does a decent enough jobs on the IDs, although they probably should have stuck with your real name. I mean who's going to think that August Anderson is real. It'd probably work better than a cover," he said, smiling.

Ready, aim, fire, and he had scored. "No, you work for the CIA. If you were in an accident, they'd have dumped you faster than you can say blind. The only reason they would have kept you is if the blindness is the result of one of their fucked up mission. I mean it's not like any of their missions aren't fucked up, but as long they get what they want they really don't care about the consequences, do they?" Sam smirked. "If you gave a damn about understanding, you wouldn't be working for the CIA. You aren't exactly known for the softer side of intelligence."

"It's not bad as far as names go, I mean have you seen some of the names celebrities give their kids these days? Apple? Pilot Inspektor? I ask you, what kind of world are we living in when you can name your kid after fruit and no one bats an eye?" He asked shaking his head. "If I ever have kids, I think I'll go for Mango, it has a nice ring to it don't you think? Or maybe Kiwi, I do love Kiwis."

Auggie could hear the smirk in the other man's voice, and he hated that he'd given himself away like that. It was easier when it was the FBI, when they were just interrogating him over being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This was different and he'd let his cover slip and it was his own damn fault.

"Well you seem to have all the answers, I really don't know why you need me for anything seeing as you've decided what the truth is without me." Auggie said. "So are we done? Or do you need me around so you can tell me some more about who I supposedly am and who I work for."

"I have all the answers, even to questions you haven't asked," Sam said, calmly. "Nothing we told you is a lie, even if it's incredible to believe. We are going to New York, and there you can have more answers. One of our agents is blind, too, or more accurately X-Ray visions, but he's got his computer set up for voice recognition. You can use his until we get one for you all set up."

He sighed. "Look, you were trained. You know that if we waned you dead we could have done it. We're not interested in hurting you. Savannah really can transform into different elements, John can really fly," he said. "And you're right, some of these things could be explained, but when you put all of them together, you have to admit that it's a lot of things, and you're what? An analyst now? We have plenty of computer hackers. It's a lot of effort to convince you that you're in a different dimension when we don't even want information about the CIA. We'll be in New York in a few hours and you can check out the internet or listen to the TV. We can go from there."
