Closed Scene - Helen's Birth
Who: Mel, Thalia, Artemis, Nick
What: Baby!
Where: Nick and Mel's place, Theater
When: Today! The 20th
Warnings: Baby warnings of ichor and messes.
Mel and Thalia were, as they often did, spending part of the day together. This time, Thalia was over at Mel's home as Nick was out elsewhere, and the sisters had taken over the couch futon that was in the art/guest room on the main floor. It felt a bit crowded with all of Mel's supplies everywhere, but the upper art room, which still held Mel's desk and some other supplies and her computer, had basically been turned over into a baby room. The due date had been the 17th, and Helen had seemed inclined to stay within the womb thus far. But for now, the very pregnant muse of tragedy was on her side with her head resting in her sisters lap as some music played on the radio and conversation came and went. A peaceful afternoon.
A lull in the conversation had floated in when Mel's thoughts came to the box that Nick had delivered to her from Hades, and the message to open when she thought the time was right. Whenever that was. Twisting, she peered at her sister. "Thallie, can you get me something? On my desk upstairs, there's a gold box. I want to open it." It might have been a baby gift after all, right?
Thalia was playing with Mel's hair as they had been relaxing on the couch, when the pregnant muse asked her to get something she nodded, she would do anything for her sister, even if that meant getting up. "You'll have to get up for a moment though." She said as she started to shift a little.
For a moment Mel pouted, even though she knew she needed to move, and kisses her sisters knee before rolling to sit up, and let her sister move. Maybe she could ask for some other sweet tea in the fridge at the same time...
Thalia got up with a big smile on her face, quiet times like these with her sister were times she enjoyed a lot. "Big golden box here I come." She said theatrically as she started to move toward the stairs, before leaving the room she added. "Is that all I can get for you?"
Oh, her sister knew her well. Grinning back, Mel pointed to the empty glass sitting out of reach from earlier. "More sweet tea?" It was a simple request! Really!
"Your wish is my command." Thalia said with a theatrically bow, she picked up the glass and put it into the kitchen before going up the stairs to get the box Mel had asked for. On her way back she poured he pregnant sister a glass of sweet tea.
There was a chuckle from the other muse at her sister's theatrics, before she settled in to wait for her return. Now she was very curious about her golden package, and who better to open it around then Thalia?
With a big grin on her face Thalia entered the room with the package and the tea. "Mylady." She didn't bow this time, she would only spill the tea if she did. She held out both to her sister, that way Mel could pick which one she wanted first. She hoped it would be the package, surprises were just so exciting.
One hand went to the glass, so she could take a long sip and set it to the side before it spilled. Then, accepting the package, she patted the spot next to her for her sister to sit. As she waited for Thalia, she began to inspect it, looking it over curiously. There was the urge to shake it, but it was pushed away by the fear that something inside might be breakable. Looking at her sister eagerly, she began to remove the bow first.
Quickly Thalia moved to sit next to Melpomene, almost holding her breath as she watched her starting to remove the bow. Mentally she tried to guess what could be in a box this size, but none of it made sense.
The bow was quickly gone, and the wrapper was working to follow. The excitement was catching. Finally she was able to open the lid of the box itself, and peer inside. For a moment, she blinked. Then, she pulled out a card, and read it aloud. "For all the kindness you and your sister have shown me." She offered the card to Thalia, and pushed aside what she thought was just paper, to see what was underneath. There was a moment of slightly stunned quiet before she, literally, squealed. The paper turned out to be a deed for a theater, and under it, in what appeared to be a gold frame, was a picture of a theater. A theater!
Thalia stared at the deed and the picture in Mel's hand. "You got a theater?" That wasn't really something she could have imagined. Theater's usually didn't come in golden boxes after all.
"We got a theater!" She pointed to the note as she clung to her sister's side, then kissed her cheek. Theater muses got a theater!
"We..." Thalia could not believe it. She and Mel had talked about theaters and owning one but now that it looked like they got one she just could not believe it. She moved to snuggle even closer to her sister. "We do, don't we?"
If there was any gap between them, Mel sought a way to close it, nearly toppling her sister over on the couch and into the cushions. Unable to find a better way to express the sheer happiness at that thought -- a theater... a real theater! -- she pressed her lips to Thalia's in a kiss before pulling away near giggling. Yes, Mel was giggling. Then, she paused and peered at her sister. "We have to go see it."
Thalia was starting to realize that all this was real and not just a very good dream. She sat back up and beamed at her giggling sister. "Yes, we should... want to go right now?" She knew her sister was as excited as she was, the answer hardly could be no, right?
The idea hadn't yet occurred to Mel, but as soon as it was mentioned, it really seemed like the only thing they could do. "Yes!" Scrambling up as best she could, she looked in the box for a key to get in, before picking up her phone and sending a quick text message. Come on Uncle, don't keep the muses waiting.
Thalia got up, quickly moving behind Mel to be able to see who she was messaging and to be there if all this scrambling would mean her pregnant sister would tumble over. Uncle Hades would know better then to keep Comedy and Tragedy waiting, she was sure of it.
"Come on..." she mumbled as she waited for him to get the simple message and send back a reply. He'd have to know the excitement that was going through her right now and if he didn't answer quickly enough she'd call him and forget about waiting for silly little texts. And if that failed, she'd call Julie. Or Hestia. Or.. someone. A theater waited!
Thalia stared at the phone nervously willing it to give the little tone telling them Hades returned Mel's text with an answer that would get them into their theater.
The chime came, and Mel read the quick message before making her own reply, and waiting again. She was slightly squirmy as she waited until she got the message to look on the back of the deed. Grabbing the paper up, she only now noticed the odd weight of it, and flipped it over to see the key she needed. There were probably others for other things, but this was the main one. The master. She sent off another quick text as she grabbed the key and pushed herself up to standing, ready to be on her way now that she held the key. "Let's go!"
Thalia shook her head when she saw the key, it was of course a pretty obvious place for it to be. She grabbed Mel's hand and squeezed it, "Yes... let's!" She almost bounced up and down with excitement.
That was all the encouragement that Mel needed as she took her sisters hand and went for the door. "Shadow, stay... We're going to our theater!" she mentioned distractedly over her shoulder. To the theater!
