SPACE STUFF
So I love all of you and this game and I'm not ready to give it up. But I do realize that we need a big change to bring up our enthusiasm and draw in new players. That something, I hope, is space. Now before I really get into this let me say that this is all just ideas, so if anyone is not on board don't be afraid to say so and we'll come up with something else.
The way I envision Cosmic OM~ is not as a temporary event but as an actual shift in the direction of the game to kind of 'rebrand' and refocus it. I have a new more defined premise in mind, which is that the Earth is gone and the universe and all those Earth refugees have to deal with the consequences.
Imagine what Tony could do in a cave with a box of scraps on an alien planet with advanced tech, Cap figuring out with what it means to be Captain America with no America, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents joining the Nova Corps, the H4H becoming galactic bounty hunters, Bruce searching the galaxy for an equivalent to kale chips. Characters would have to cope with the anonymity that comes with being out in the universe, going from being big fish in a small pond to relatively unknown outsiders in space. Do they try to make a name for themselves? Do they try to hide their past and reinvent their identities (only to have it totally screwed up when someone from Earth recognizes them in a space bar and calls them out)?
How do inhabitants of the universe, previously happily oblivious to earth and minding their own busiess, handle these huge shifts? Like when someone accidentally unleashes demons to rampage across galaxies, when someone tries to collect infinity stones to get earth back, when suddenly mystical realms like Asgard or the Seven Cities of Heaven that were anchored to earth are attached to other planets, when Bruce hulks out because there are no Kale chips anywhere? There would be a lot of interesting possibilities to explore.
Heroes and villains of Earth are united in their displacement, their hope to one day return to earth, finding their loved ones out in space, trying to make a new life in the universe. Cosmic/alien characters would be dealing with all these crazy motherfuckers and the fallout. The game would kind of become about how the loss of earth reshapes the universe and finding our place within it, but the spirit of the game would remain the same in that we're still just trying to live out our lives with a new backdrop and an overarching motivation/plot that affects everything.
The particular plot how and why we leave earth can be worked out later (lbr, it's probably Reed Richards' fault), but I've thought of a few ways we could go forward from a game standpoint. We could just go forth from where we are now or we could go for a partial reboot. That would mean using this opportunity to drop or pick up anyone we need to, change a pb, alter ages, retcon any past plot that didn't pan out or any confusing character history you'd rather do without to make things easier on you and the game more accessible to new players. It'd be a chance to put our best foot forward as we embark into this whole strange new universe, without wholly erasing half a decade of character development.
I've got other ideas that cover more specifics, but this is getting way too long. For now let's just see how everyone feels about the new concept, if anybody finds it interesting. Again, if you hate it, please tell me! If you have questions/comments/concerns let's work them out. If you'd rather go in some other direction, we totally can. Tell me how you feel.
Thank you for reading. Have a gif for your time.
