Sing for Absolution
Characters: Polaris, OT anyone on Genosha
Location: Genosha
Content: Probably nothing bad
Summery: It's New Years and Lorna isn't with anyone she should be.
She was biting her lip again. It was something she did when she was nervous or sad or anxious or bored or really anything but smiling and happy-go-lucky. Not that she was usually happy-go-lucky, but she was reasonably happy. Usually.
Lorna was on her bed, the one in Magneto's mansion. Legs crossed and phone in her hands. Hands in her lap. Fingers pressing buttons and scrolling through her menus. No calls, of course. No calls since she left. No voice messages. No one asking where she'd gone, no one caring enough to even leave a 'where the hell did you go, girl?' via text.
Had she left her number with anyone? Yes. Jean had it. And Xavier. And Shield even. Heck, shouldn't Shield have called about getting her in for some tests and stuff? Maybe the service was bad all the way out in Genosha.
Lorna chewed on the bottom corner of her lip and pressed speed dial for her foster parents followed by the speakerphone button. The dial tone echoed inside the room for a few moments before the song of numbers being imputted broke the heavy noise. Another moment of pure silence and then the ringing of a phone. A held breath later an annoyed woman's voice said "Hello? Who is this? Do you know what time it is?"
Eyes squeezed shut, she cringed in regret at her theory being disproven before answering, "Hey... mom... it's Lorna. Just calling to say Happy New Year..."
"Oh.... well, Happy New Year to you too."
"Thanks. So, um... Any cameras left following you around?"
"No. No, they stopped coming around begining of December. You stopped being news I guess. That's good."
"Yeah. Well, I'll let you get back to sleep... or whatever."
"Alright. Good Night."
A click sounded before Lorna could say 'bye' and she let out a sigh before falling backwards and letting herself sprall on the bed. Phone dropping from loose fingers to the floor only a couple feet below.
"They've been really busy... probably," Lorna muttered to herself. It was no longer a cutting pain that hit her when she thought of Jean and what few friends she used to have. And Steve. And Tony... well, Tony was another matter. He brought a biting pain while the rest just left a dull sadness in her chest. But she was done with crying over it. Mostly.
Magneto had been pretty okay so far. Nice even. At least he was trying. At this point she didn't particularly care if she ever saw the results of the paternity test. Mr. Leshnerr was being hospitable and willing to teach her in a way she could understand and even share his home with her this long. Maybe it was for the best if she never had contact with any of them ever again. Get her degree here. Did Genosha have Universities? She should look into that, really.
Lorna rolled onto her side and let her gaze fall to the sky beyond her balcony door. Just past midnight - locally - and the night was being filled with pyrotecnics. And not the conventional fireworks. Mutants of all kinds just unleashing their joy at another year passing. And she was in her bedroom moping.
She chewed on her lip just a tad bit longer before muttering a 'screw this' and getting up. Closet opened with a tug of magnetic pull on the door handle, followed by a dress that gave homage to Magneto in color and make up - a small strip of metal along the neckline to facilitate drawing it to her. Practice every day in every way possible was what was helping her gain control.
Lorna changed quickly, the dress falling to just above her knees and decided to leave the shoes at home. It was a tropical island and she was going to treat it as such. The balcony doors were pushed open with another thought and then she was in the air, blue electricity crackling around her in a sphere as she pushed herself away from the magnetic pull of the earth and set off toward the center of the City.
Her only goal this night was to have fun. Possibly get drunk and wake up with a stranger. Why not? She really should start enjoying life more.
