I tried to tame my nightmare Line by line.
Characters: Wanda, OTA, multi-threads
Setting: A hospital
Content: Nothing questionable
Summary: After a harrowing exorcism and a medically induced coma, Wanda wakes up demon-free (but still without a soul)
The darkness was deep and wonderful, a relief. There were no voices here, no nightmares, no ghosts or demons or horrors. Just nothingness, endless and silent. When the first pinpoint of light pierced it, Wanda tried to ignore it, didn't want to stir her consciousness to wake. As the light grew brighter, it was a struggle to fight against it, a rising tide of light and noises that began faintly but soon seemed to roar in her ears. Rhythmic whirs and beeps, voices, that damned horrible and persistent light flashing in her eyes. She groaned, tried to mutter "No" over a tongue stuck from disuse. Wanda shook her head from side to side, slowly, and the voices faded in and out, from gibberish to actual words she could understand.
"-ink she's waking up. Call the Director. Oh, and tell those two camping out in the waiting room." Wanda squeezed her eyes shut, but someone lifted the lid, shined light directly at her pupils, first in one eye and then the other. "Stop," she managed in a half-whisper, squinting against the light at the figure above it who came gradually into focus. A woman she didn't recognize, wearing scrubs, smiled down at her in a practiced way, over-bright in an an expression that didn't meet her eyes. "Well, hello, Miss Maximoff. Do you know where you are?" The question didn't make much sense to Wanda and she rolled her eyes around to figure out the answer. A hospital room, it appeared, but she shook her head slightly at the woman because it was easier than trying to voice the answer.
"You're in the hospital," the woman informed her. "You've been in a coma for about a month." Oh, well, that sounded terrible. There was a reason she was here, Wanda knew that, it was somewhere on the edges of her mind but part of her was fighting against it. Too much to remember, too much she didn't want to remember yet. Her brain was still clinging to that sweet restful darkness, for as long as it could. "You were at another, ah, facility before now but were recently- Sir, please!" The nurse drew in a sharp breath and scowled at someone who seemed to be invading her space. Wanda looked around to find out who was so determined to see her.
