Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates-
Characters: Wanda and Jessica
Setting: Places in NY
Content: Violence maybe
Summary: Wanda and Jessica evaluate their lives and choices.
This Valentine's Day was important, Wanda had been looking forward to it for what felt like ages. She'd been feeling strange ever since Alaska, and she'd been counting on tonight to take her mind off that and hopefully lift her spirits. Everything had to be just perfect and, to that end, she'd gone out of her way to make it so. Dinner for two was laid out on the coffee table, something lavish and Italian. A decadent meal was hardly worthy of the title without a good bottle of wine to complement it (Wanda went out and bought two). There was a cake from the bakery down the street for dessert, waiting to be cut on the kitchen counter. A vase of red spider orchids rested as a center piece between the plates and wine glasses with a square box of chocolate leaning up against it. The television screen shone brightly, paused on the first scenes of The Notebook. Only a click of a button away was a Netflix queue of chick flicks and romantic comedies.
Once she was sure that everything was ready she disappeared into her bedroom to change into her favorite outfit then retired to the sofa to wait for her date. Sure, it wasn't dinner at a fancy restaurant or a night on the town, but Wanda didn't think there was anything wrong with having a nice evening in with someone who had, lately, become one of her favorite people to spend time with. There was nothing strange about getting flowers for her best friend, drinking two bottles of wine, or planning to polish off a couple boxes of chocolates. The fact that her favorite clothes were not a designer something, but were instead comfy pajama pants, a tank top, and a fleece bathrobe was nothing to be ashamed of. So maybe she'd lost the desire lately for sexy dresses, parties, flirting. People were tiring, dating was insufferable. Who needed to go out on Valentine's day when she had Jessica, wine, chocolate, and Ryan Gosling to start out her evening? Definitely not Wanda. She stared at the box of chocolates and decided that having just one while she waited wouldn't spoil her appetite for supper.
