Placebo
Characters: Colleen, Jasper and Wanda
Setting: The remote North of Alaska
Content: Well, we are trying to slaughter a vampire.
Summary: Sitwell's strike team infilatrate a vampire nest. It'll probably be fine.
If Jasper was to be an active part of his own dangerous, life-or-death mission, and he definitely was because this was his problem and he wasn't putting anyone else at risk for him if he couldn't be there to intervene, they had to leave behind their strongest advantage: natural vampire weaknesses, including, most challengingly, sunlight. This pretty well guaranteed that the target location would be a hive of activity, but Jasper didn't feel this in particular had much impact on their progress either way. If Jasper could do his infiltrating in the daylight, they would still be waking the house up as they searched for the intended victim.
Other natural vampire banes, including religious icons and silver (apparently, though Jasper had so far found it, like garlic, gave him a mildly irritating itch that subsided quickly enough, and didn't expect it made quite the vampire killer that Ms. Maximoff's research had claimed), were somewhat less of a risk and the ladies were outfitted accordingly, with the promise to be cautious of the high risk of magical scattershot. There was enough experience between them, Jasper thought, to not have to worry terribly about friendly fire. Colleen's efficiency and precision were just some of the reasons she made a reliable partner, though discovering that the pair seemed to know each other rather intimately was slightly alarming. He had some idea of what women's relationships could amount to. It easily skewed sinister, in his experience.
Less sinsiter than the castle carved into the icy Alaskan landscape that they observed under a cloud-covered moon. There was some activity that Jasper could see already; an avian flapping around the peaks that had him carefully not looking Ms. Maximoff's way. Here was the plan: try not to be detected by the heightened senses of an entire vampire coven. Allow Jasper's gut instinct guide them to the correct target. Decapitate the target without being bitten or alerting the rest of the enemy army.
Honestly, Jasper had encountered worse odds.
