Characters: Pietro, Wicked and Tony
Setting: The happy couple's house, definitely too late to drop by
Content: Probably a lot of innuendo.
Summary: Everyone thinks everyone else is mad, I think. But there is a lot of love in this house.
The invitation got lost in the mail. They should have known very well that Tony was a busy guy, and they really had to check in a few times to make sure their event was penciled in. As far as Tony knew, they hadn't even had a housewarming party and that had to be Pepper's fault for not thinking it important enough to make it onto the schedule. He must have been doing something else that night.
Who was he kidding? The pair of them thought he was an asshole and just saved themselves the bother. He couldn't blame them. Unless their new place had a huge reception hall, he was bound to ruin it for everybody. It definitely didn't look like the reception hall kind of area as he rolled down the street, slow as he watched the building numbers with no one following impatiently at this hour. If he got really lucky, maybe they weren't even home and Pietro had been thoughtful enough to take Wicked for a night on the town. Then he could insist he made the gesture without actually having to endure any conversation, and they could all go back to ignoring each other without the looming awkwardness. It would have worked just as well if one of them had the stones to tell him to fuck right off. Pietro's tactic of ignoring the door when Tony knocked was a little obscure.
There was only one person on the sidewalk to give him wide berth as he mounted the curb and flipped the kickstand to rest in front of what Pepper told him was the right address. It was even more of a downgrade from Wanda's medieval three bedroom in the Flatiron District, and Tony didn't know whether to feel guilty for not putting them all up again or not feel anything at all. Maybe he could coordinate with Jan to put together a new headquarters the incorporated all of their needs and didn't leave anyone living with a card reader on the front doors that was so easy to trick. No need to make anyone get up. With his helmet tucked under his arm, Tony took his time wandering the halls before planting himself in front of the right door and giving a quick rap of his knuckles, waiting a breath, then turning to leave. Great, no one home, he'd send a card in the mail and everyone would move on with their perfectly domestic little lives. He hadn't brought any beer, anyway, though they could all certainly use one. The liquor store was overly friendly to him, and Tony thought it might be worth dropping in now to cap off his night.
