"Same old, same old," Nick said, sparing a glare for the dinosaur before he glanced over at one of the monitors the kid had set up to watch a small pack of zombies lumbering by on a street corner above. Alex could see for himself just how things were deteriorating, he didn't need Nick to tell him everything was going to hell. The kid impressed him, though, with how careful he was being and how resourceful. He might actually be able to survive down here and live to see another birthday. Which reminded him-
"Happy birthday," he muttered because someone ought to say it, even if this was probably not the best birthday Alex had ever spent. He sat next to him at the table and took up an ak-47 to assemble. "You plan on using these any time soon?" he asked, amused at the prospect of the kid thinking he needed so much firepower. If the Cocoon got overrun he'd probably not even get the chance to use it all.
