Reconstruction
Characters: West Coast Avengers and...their friends? idk open to creativity.
Setting: WCA Headquarters, Malibu
Content: Stuff.
Summary: A dinner party with the WCA! This will obviously go well.
Not that Tony had cooked, cleaned, decorated or even set this surprisingly expert mood lighting, but he thought he put on a downright respectable party when he was sober. He had even remembered to thank Pepper the last time he called her, and once in the six messages he left after she stopped answering her phone. At that point, he had to defer to Jan, who seemed less inclined to insist on perfection despite it all being her brilliant idea and contributed mostly energy and a single balloon. The latter wasn't exactly in Tony's design vision, but he accepted it as payment for Jan's assistance setting a table. As the food arrived (what it was exactly a surprise to Tony as much as anyone else, as he had managed to get Pepper, in New York, to find a restaurant and a delivery service for him in Malibu before she got tired and frustrated with him), it was JARVIS that suggested a romantic, low golden light as the finishing touch, which did make the silver glow mysteriously. It would have all been a boastable success except for one thing; their guest of honour was still missing.
This wouldn't be so annoying if Quicksilver wasn't always inevitably preoccupied with his own fantastically important life when anyone needed him, and inevitably buzzing around demanding attention when anyone really didn't want him. The pattern was so predictable that Tony could have been all right with Pietro not showing up at all, except in this case that would have been his fault and it was possible that Pietro was dead. Also frustrating and a predictable pattern: why was Tony so regularly at fault when the outcome was mortal danger? He sat at the head of the carefully laid table, chair askance so he could bounce his leg on his knee while he texted Pepper again, hoping she might solve this by talking to the right people at the hospital and a car service. All of the tests had gone exactly as predicted, he assured himself, Pietro's new heart hadn't been rejected and he didn't even have stitches anymore. He was practically bursting out of his bed whenever Tony showed up to do the next step in checking his limitations. He was fine, better than fine, just Pietro. Jan's balloon slowly floated down from the ceiling, lingering half way down the table like it was aiming to drop into someone's salad. Celebrating a plastic heart was a misguided waste of time anyway. One of those boxes from the restaurant had to contain something Tony could eat with his hands and bring with him back to the office.
