A successful marriage requires falling in love many times.
Characters: Open to invited guests and their plus-ones (which is basically anyone but overt bad guys. And Nick Fury)
Setting: Gotham Hall New York City
Content: Nothing questionable until everyone gets drunk
Summary: It’s like OM’s version of prom! Anyway Happy and Pepper are getting remarried and their friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate.
Notes: There will be three main posts/threads. The first is the ceremony which will be like Happy Pepper and Tony and Cassie. The second is a thread for reaction to/during the ceremony in case you want to, idk, whisper to one another through our wedding vows. The last is the reception tag that’ll describe the reception and every new comment after that will be taking place at the reception. You don’t have to reply to the reception tag itself, it’s just setting the scene, but anything you want to happen before that, just post it into the ceremony reaction/during thread.
There were actually butterflies in Happy’s stomach. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt butterflies and he definitely didn’t remember being so nervous the first time he’d got married. But then, that had been an elopement in front of a justice of the peace and a witness. There was at least a hundred people watching now, sitting in several rows of chairs ranged around a dais in the middle of the Art Deco grand ballroom in New York’s Gotham Hall.
The venue was magnificent, seven storey gilded ceilings met in a vaulted dome over an ornate chandelier and marble floors. Each end of the oval room was accentuated by towering limestone Corinthian columns that supported the mezzanine above. Despite the magnitude of the space, the wedding still seemed intimate, isolated in the midst of the room by sweeping sheer curtains back lit in the same shade of blue as the globes of fragrant orchids hanging above the guests.
Beneath an arched arbor twined with flowers a serene and smiling man, the wedding’s officiator, stood dressed in black, looking far more at ease than the groom standing in front of him. The spot directly to Happy’s right was currently empty (the Best Man of Honor meant to occupy it would be walking the bride down the aisle) but two other groomsmen stood up with him, a friend from his childhood and one from his earliest years in the ring. Happy glanced their way and they both beamed back at him, also clearly unperturbed to be up here in front of an audience. The whole thing felt overwhelming every time Happy so much as looked around, but he reminded himself that this was for Pepper and that made it all worth it.
He was distracted as the string quartet out beyond the curtains struck up a song and Pepper’s three bridesmaids began making their way down the aisle. They all wore dark blue gowns and carried small bouquets of flowers, except Cassie who was carrying Anthony dressed in a little suit. Curious and undisturbed (how was everyone else handling this so well?), Anthony sat quietly in Cassie’s arms and turned his attention to his daddy as soon as Cassie was standing beside him. The song that had played the women up the aisle ended and the guests all rose simultaneously when the first notes of the wedding march swelled through the space. All of Happy’s anxiety went right out of his head as he waited for the arrival of his ex-soon-to-be-new wife.
