Living just to keep going-
Characters: Nick, Wicked, Alex, Daisy
Setting: The Cocoon
Content: Nick Fury
Summary: Nick adds a new member to his Caterpillar team
I’ll be in touch was the last thing Fury said to Wicked before she was escorted out of Hogan and Potts’ by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and taken to HQ for debriefing. After a few days they released her to the apartment she'd had in the city before leaving for Genosha. They couldn't promise that Magneto wouldn't retaliate for her betrayal but they told her that she wasn't the first spy to be caught on Genosha and her chances for survival were better than if Magneto had found her out himself. S.H.I.E.L.D., they assured her, would do their utmost to keep her safe if anything came up and in the meantime to consider herself on leave until Fury decided what to do with her.
That was just over a week ago. He hadn’t been in touch. It probably came as a surprise to Wicked to find him lounging on the couch in her little apartment’s living room. “Come on,” he said to her without further explanation and took her down to his car. He didn’t appear to be particularly angry, just especially silent. They drove through the city and he pointedly ignored her running commentary until they pulled up to a curb on a street in what appeared to be an old abandoned warehouse district. They approached a particularly nasty squat building with busted windows and overgrown weeds choking a cracked walkway. Nick mounted crumbling steps to a door nearly rusted from it's hinges and held this open, waving Wicked into the darkness in front of him.
A little dusty sunlight filtered into a large open room but the place was mostly ensconced in a murky gloom that Nick seemed to navigate without any problem, unfazed by the squeals of rats and the hulking shadows of disused machinery cluttering up the room's corners. The pair exited the main room for a small hallway and Nick paused at the third door on the right, pulling it open and stepping into what appeared to be a maintenance closet. He gestured for Wicked to follow and then closed the door after them, the fit rather tight for the tall man, the young woman, and a broom, a mop bucket, and a few shelves of cleaning supplies.
"You're joining a special team," Fury informed her and pressed his thumb against what appeared to be a smudge of dirt on the wall. There was a grinding of gears and the floor below them began a slow and smooth descent. This wasn't a broom closet, it was an elevator.
