Wanda had watched enough Food Network-
Characters: Wanda, Jess, ot Cap later & anyone else in the tower
Setting: The Avengers HQ Kitchen
Content: Nothing bad, maybe swearing
Summary: Wanda and Jessica, possibly the two people in the world most ill-suited to the task, attempt to bake Cap a birthday cake
This couldn't possibly be that difficult- at least, that's what Wanda had been telling herself since she'd resolved that Steve required a birthday cake and she recruited Jessica for the task. It would be best to do it the day before his birthday, since there was a long public appearance planned for the Avengers on the Fourth. Of course, the girls could have just gone out and bought a perfectly nice one (appropriately America themed, since Cap shared his birthday with the country's) but no, clearly, the cake would mean more if the women made it themselves. A boxed cake wouldn't do, it had to be from scratch, Wanda was adamant about this fact. A red velvet cake with homemade cream cheese frosting and decorations and lettering in blue.
She was in good spirits when they went searching for the ingredients at a shop and returned to the headquarter's kitchen to begin their confectionery endeavor. Wanda had watched enough Food Network- she never missed Ace of Cakes or the cake challenges- to be positive that they could manage. It wasn't like they were doing anything difficult, after all, it wasn't sculpting fondant or being judged by snooty chefs, it was just baking at simple pretty cake and they had the fail safe guidance of Betty Crocker in a cookbook. Yes, it would be delicious and positively delightful and Wanda ignored the voice of JARVIS as the computer stoically informed them that he would have the fire department on standby. Tony was going to have to give that AI an attitude adjustment; it was getting too sarcastic.
"Okay, so, we've got to grease and flour two nine-inch cake pans," she announced to Jessica when she'd propped the book open on the counter and peered at the recipe. Cake pans. They hadn't bought cake pans, were there cake pans somewhere in here? It was a kitchen, there ought to be. She looked around with pursed lips at the various cabinet doors.
