Morpheus Always Wins
Who: Sean When: Afternoon Where: His suite
Sean had gotten two little pills from Leto. Evidently he looked like shit enough that she didn't even ask what the problem was. He took a quick shower and pulled on some pajama bottoms. With Savannah around he wasn't gonna risk the girl forgetting to knock.
He took the pills and set the glass of water he chased them with on the nightstand as he tossed away the coverlet and slipped under the topsheet.
The scent of lilacs filled the room again. After Chelsea's confession the other night the fact that he'd heard childhood songs from time to time wasn't as disturbing to him as it had been to her. Several people hears things not there. If he was going mad, they all were.
"Baa, baa black sheep, have you any wool..."
Oh well, at least it tied in with counting sheep. He dreaded sleep. The nightmares came every time, and new ones were added lately. The mist eating Molly and her friends, a ship full of bodies, people he couldn't save.
"Yes, sir, yes, sir three bags full..."
Sean closed his eyes against the light of the day. He could almost feel the dip on the side of the bed. Karen, his sister, older by five years, had sat with him through chicken pox when he was five. She sang him all the children's songs she knew, and some hymns. Mom took him through the day, but Karen had convinced their parents she was old enough to give their mother breaks. She did it again when he was eight and had a major infection that gave the family a scare. Karen had always taken care of him. And he'd failed to take care of her little girl.
"One for the master, and one for the dame.."
Lilacs were Karen's favorite flower, favorite perfume. He hoped she was watching over Molly now. He felt as helpless as he ever was. As useless at being able to stop things. Only God and determination could save them all.
