Problems
Who: Leto and Genny the NPC
When: Way too early
Where: Leto's room
There was knocking.
Leto felt like she had just gotten to sleep an hour ago, and there was knocking. She rolled over in bed to look at the clock and frowned. Shifting again, she looked over at Levon, who had been sleeping with her. Mercifully, he was still asleep. Leto smoothed the hair on his forehead before climbing out of bed, and hurrying out of the bedroom. Once she made her way to the door, she threw it open. She did not expect to see Genny, looking very awake, wide-eyed, and very nervous.
"Genny? Do you know what time it is?" Leto asked, sort of wanting to strangle the girl. She'd worried that it was Alex.
"We have a problem." Genny answered.
Leto had a problem alright, in the form of a little redhead girl waking her up, but she kept that to herself. She didn't say anything, just crossed her arms over her chest and waited, half slumping against her door frame.
"All of the medical staff is gone." Genny said. "All of them. Dr. Taylor... everyone. No one is left."
...Okay, Leto felt a bit more awake now. Or perhaps she was still asleep and dreaming. She stood a little bit straighter. "What are you talking about? Where did they go?"
"I don't know!" Genny answered. "A lot more, too. They just disappeared. We can't find them." she explained. "What do you want to do?"
Leto was attempting to process, which was not an easy task. In fact, she felt absolutely certain that her brain was broken, and, and... wait, what did she say? Leto tilted her head to the side and stared at Genny. "What do I want to... huh? What are you talking about?"
"Well you're in charge now!" Genny answered, holding out a clipboard. "There are still people that need help. You have to do it!"
Okay, now her brain was broken. She sputtered on words, feeling like she'd forgotten each and every language she knew. "I'm a nurse!" she blurted out. "I can't... you can't... it doesn't work that way! I wouldn't even know where to start!"
"I'll help you!" Genny said. "I found Dr. Taylor's keys, and I've checked some of his files already..."
Leto backed up, feeling on the verge of an honest to God panic attack. She hadn't felt so horrified in a long time. She kept backing up until the back of her leg hit the sofa, and she sat down. Just breathe. It's going to be okay. Whatever happened to them, it hasn't happened to you. Levon's still here. But with that thought came the terrifying need to check on her father and Alex. But she didn't feel like her legs would work.
"Um... there is one problem." Genny said, taking a step forward and letting the door fall closed.
One problem. One problem?! Leto stared up at Genny with a shocked look on her face, her brain absolutely flooded with problems. Problems, in the heavily fucking plural! Couldn't Genny see she was having a moment here?! She was still trying to deal with her own problems!
Genny took another step, and held out a file. "I found that in Dr. Taylor's notes."
Leto stared at the extended file, quite sure that she didn't want to know. But after a moment of staring at it, she finally took it, and with a heavy heart, opened the file to read. Her shoulders felt heavier and heavier with every word.
Now it was real. Now she was involved. And all she wanted to do was run in the opposite direction. She continued to stare at the words on the page for a long time before accepting it. "Where do we start?"
