Zoe might have felt a bit guilty for basically browbeating Nik with zen dharma and using his brother against him if he wasn't being so damned...well, stupid. Stupid was the only way she could describe it. His whine about being upset because he'd suddenly discovered he wasn't dead had been the straw.
No more hiding, no more fear. She wasn't afraid of him. Okay, she was and she wasn't. She knew he could break her like a doll and he was violent. But she wasn't afraid of him hurting her. She was afraid if he was allowed to go on, all of them, his brothers too, would be missing out on something.
Nothing happened for no reason. Nothing at all.
The card key worked for her the first time. She saw it as a sign of righteous approval. Yeah, she was looking for any strength she could gather. She knew he was a dragon. But dragons weren't unstoppable.
She found in his room, surrounded by books. While she loved books, loved the pursuit of knowledge, never stopped learning. But the lessons he needed the most weren't in books.
Zoe settled down on his bed, placing her hands over the pages and leaning forward. She hadn't changed, so the ruffles of her shirtsleeves completely covered the page. She had an idea of what to do, but it was kinda corny. It also just might work on Mr. Love Poetry here.
She had a poem for him. Well, sort of. Song lyrics were just poetry. Put to music and rhythm. And they could hold as much truth. Or more. Here was hoping he was as much of a romantic as he professed to being.
Zoe had a sweet voice and she knew it. And she was using it against him. She'd feel bad, but sometimes, for somethings, you had to use any weapon you could. And his walled fortress was getting hit with every one she had.

The pain will ease if I can learn
There is no future
There is no past
I live this moment as my last."
