It's a dog's life
Who: Niles (solo)
Where: Megan's room
When: Dogs can't tell time, but it's dark and the boat is moving too much.
Niles had been having a wonderful time with Mommy until today. He'd gotten to take her to so many places in this big building (that moved!), met lots of happy people that Mommy didn't like him saying hi to, and found the most amazing smells that could keep him entertained for hours on end. There weren't any other dogs around, but he didn't care, he was having fun!
Today wasn't so fun though. There was something in the air that was making Niles very edgy. He'd been nervous, taken Mommy on a couple of wrong turns, even barked on accident when something fell. And now their new house was moving way too much and making his tummy feel bad. Mommy had been nice and given him the yummy foods, but his tummy didn't think it was so yummy and he let Mommy know by throwing it back up. Mommy was furious! Niles had hidden in the corner to let Mommy try to clean it up. He didn't want to tell her that she'd missed some, though.
Mommy wasn't feeling good either. He could tell. Niles could always tell when Mommy didn't feel good. She went somewhere, and even though he was ready and willing to take her, she told him stay. So he did. But he was scared. His hair was standing up on his back, and he could just sense a wrongness around the air. There was a lot of noise in the hall. Happy noise, he could tell, for the most part. But he was a good boy. He didn't run to the door to try to see what was going on. He stayed waiting on the couch for Mommy to get back, curled up. But not sleeping. He was too nervous to sleep.
